Book California Mineral Production

Download or read book California Mineral Production written by Henry H. Symons and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-06-23 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from California Mineral Production: And Directory of Mineral Producers for 1943 It is the endeavor of the staff of the State Division of Mines (formerly State Mining Bureau), in these annual reports of the mineral industries of California, to so compile the statistics of production that they will be of actual use to producers and to those interested in the utilization of the mineral products of our state, while at the same time keeping the individuals data confidential. In addition to the mere figures of output, we have included descriptions of the uses and characteristics of many of the materials, as well as a brief mention of their occurrences. The compilation of accurate and dependable figures is an extremely difficult undertaking, and the State Mineralogist takes the opportunity of here expressing his appreciation of the cooperation of the producers in making this work possible. A fuller appreciation of the value of early responses to the requests sent out in January will result in earlier completion of the manuscript. Statistics lose much of their value if their publication is unnecessarily delayed. Some of the data relative to properties and uses of many of the minerals herein described are repeated from preceding reports, as it is intended that this annual statistical bulletin shall be somewhat of a compendium of information on California's commercial minerals and their utilization. Book excerpt: Excerpt from California Mineral Production for 1915: With Mining Law Appendix and County Maps The compilation of accurate and dependable figures is an extremely difficult undertaking, and the State Mineralogist takes the opportunity of here expressing his appreciation of the universal co-operation of the producers in making this work possible. The response to our request for early replies is particularly pleasing. A fuller appreciation of the value of early responses to the requests sent out at the beginning of each year, will result in earlier publication of the data in the future. It is the evidence herein put forth that should make us realize the magnitude of our latent mineral resources in this state. The total value for 1915 reached the sum of over ninety-six and a half million dollars, being a considerable increase over the preceding year. For the current year of 1916, there is promise of still greater results in many lines. Except for the year 1883, the gold yield for 1915 was the largest California has shown since 1864. In addition to this, many inquiries are being received relative to this state's resources in the industrial minerals, such as asbestos, chrome, magnesite, manganese and many others. This book was released on 2016-11-05 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from California Mineral Production for 1946 For fuel California depends upon her enormous deposits of petro leum and natural gas rather than upon coal. Annual production of petroleum in California is many times as great in value as that of any other mineral substance, and the 1947 production is expected to be the greatest on record. Although new discoveries are being made in the state, supply is not keeping up with demand, and some petroleum is being imported. Natural gas is in such high demand that a 30-inch pipe line is being constructed to bring this fuel from Texas to California. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Minerals of California Dear Sir: I have the honor to transmit herewith Bulletin 136, "Minerals of California," prepared under the direction of the Chief, Division of Mines, Olaf P. Jenkins. "Minerals of California" has undergone several revisions, the last being Bulletin 113 by Professor Adolf Pabst of the University of California; the two previous editions were by Professor A. S. Bakle, of the same institution. The popularity of this book is evinced by the fact that the last edition of 3,000 published in June 1938 went out of stock February 1946, and there are now over 110 standing orders for the new book. The present volume has been greatly enlarged and completely rewritten by Professors Joseph Murdoch and Robert W. Webb of the University of California at Los Angeles. It represents one of the cooperative projects being carried on between the Division of Mines and the State University. Bulletin 136 describes 516 definite minerals besides many subspecies or varieties. This number represents about one-quarter of the total in the world. California is famous for the discovery of new mineral species, 56 of which were originally found for the first time in California, and 39 of these 56 species have, to date, not been found elsewhere in the world. There is a continued and increasing interest in the mineralogy of California and this project has received wholehearted cooperation from all sections of the State and various mineral societies and agencies. Book California Mines and Minerals Classic Reprint

Download or read book California Mines and Minerals Classic Reprint written by California Miners Association and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from California Mines and Minerals The subject matter of this work is confined as far as possible to a plain statement of facts, regarding our great state and its mineral wealth. It has been a difficult and laborious task to gather all the data and statistics, as aside from a few counties, whose citizens were public spirited enough to look after their county interests, all matter has been prepared from the Secretary's office. In the early stages of the labor, much assistance was promised by members of the Association and others, in the form of special articles upon subjects of great interest to the industry, as well as reports upon various counties and their resources. As the work progressed, however, it was found that many substitute articles would be necessary, as promises make poor reading matter. The Association is indebted to the contributors, whose articles upon various subjects will be found highly interesting and instructive; to the advertisers, whose solid financial support has materially assisted in defraying the cost of publication; to Mr. J. O. Denny, whose able and conscientious services have been indispensable in the editorial work, and to the publishing house, for the extra care and attention given to the general make-up.
