Download or read book California Library Statistics 2009 written by California State Library and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year the State Library sends annual report forms to California's public, academic, special, state agency, and county law libraries. Statistical data from those reports are tabulated in this publication, with directory listings published in the companion volume, "California Library Directory." For this fiscal year, 389 libraries of all types submitted data to this program. One public library, Vernon, did not submit an annual report and appears with almost no data in the tables of this publication. It is estimated that there are at least 1,000 libraries in operation in California, exclusive of school libraries, so data in this publication is about 39% complete this year. (Contains 98 tables and 5 charts.).

Book California Library Laws 2008

Download or read book California Library Laws 2008 written by California State Library and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "California Library Laws 2008" is a selective guide to state laws and related materials that most directly affect the everyday operations of public libraries and organizations that work with public libraries. It is intended as a convenient reference, not as a replacement for the annotated codes or for legal advice. The guide is organized as follows. Statutes relating to library programs of statewide applicability are listed first, those of local applicability next. Miscellaneous provisions that apply to a particular type of library are appended to that library statutes. Next are statutes which are not unique to libraries, but are commonly used to provide library services. Concluding sections cover fiscal and miscellaneous provisions affecting libraries in general. Appendixes include a list of California court decisions and Attorney General Opinions relating to libraries, and a table of statutes. There is no index as such. Full text in effect January 1, 2008, is provided for most of the material. For less frequently-used statutes, only the library-specific text or a brief citation is provided. Omission of matter not directly relevant to libraries, or unrepealed obsolete material, is indicated by three asterisks (***). [Editorial assistance was provided by Donna Scales.].

Book Public Libraries and the Internet

Download or read book Public Libraries and the Internet written by John Carlo Bertot Ph.D. and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2010-11-11 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a timely and detailed exploration of the impact and issues of the Internet in public libraries and their implications for society, policy, and professional practice. Public Libraries and the Internet: Roles, Perspectives, and Implications explores the impact of the Internet and the expansion of the networked environment on U.S. public libraries through more than a dozen essays written by leading scholars and administrators. Notwithstanding the far-reaching changes wrought by the Internet, this is the first attempt to provide a comprehensive exploration of the subject over time and across areas of practice. This wide-ranging volume, edited by the authors of several national studies tracking the use and involvement of public libraries with the Internet since 1994, offers both description and assessment. It discusses the ways in which the roles and services of public libraries have changed as a result of the Internet and offers a perspective on the meaning and impact of these changes. Perhaps most critically, it also suggests possible futures and opportunities as public libraries continue to evolve in this networked environment.

Book Inherent Strategies in Library Management

Download or read book Inherent Strategies in Library Management written by Masanori Koizumi and published by Chandos Publishing. This book was released on 2017-03-31 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inherent Strategies in Library Management describes general and specific strategies for libraries based on core library values, and does so through concrete research. Many strategic management books for libraries introduce concepts of business management to the library world, but often neglect traditional library culture and core values. This book reexamines management through the lens of libraries themselves, rather than relying on strategies borrowed from the business world, in an attempt to bring to light the factors and decision-making processes behind how librarians have run their libraries over the past fifty decades. In other words, their decisions can be regarded as inherent management, born naturally from the core foundations, considerations, and operations of libraries. In addition, this book investigates the broad influences of business management theories on libraries, including a discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of their use. - Presents management strategies for libraries based on core library values - Provides detailed analysis on the effects of business management theories on libraries - Lays down the fundamental rules for managing libraries - Explains various management analysis methods - Bridges the gap between library core values and business efficiency
