En ese sentido, los ODS deben ser utilizados en el ámbito académico para resolver adecuadamente una tarea o problema, además, son un pilar fundamental para realizar de manera eficaz y adecuada las actividades y lograr los resultados deseados dentro de un proceso de aprendizaje a corto o largo plazo. Desarrollar competencias a través de la educación es la base para contribuir a la sociedad y alcumplimiento de los ODS con transversalidad y universalidad, es por lo que, el ODS 4 Educación de calidad, hace especial énfasis en la Educación para el Desarrollo Sostenible como un concepto integral que cubre todos los aspectos de los temas de sustentabilidad y promueve una responsabilidad global para apoyar la adquisición de competencias universales. Por lo tanto, el desarrollo de capacidades se trata de motivar a los estudiantes para que se conviertan en ciudadanos activos con pensamiento crítico y participen en la construcción de un futuro sostenible. Este seminario, fue desarrollado en el marco del proyecto “Educación para los objetivos de desarrollo sostenible-capacidades de los profesores universitarios” Educate – ODS, que se lleva a cabo en convenio entre la Universidad de Vechta de Alemania, la Universidad EAFIT, Universidad de Antioquia de Medellín Colombia y la Universidad Técnica del Norte de Ecuador y es financiado por el Servicio Alemán de Intercambio Académico – DAAD, habiendo participado catedráticos de diferentes países (Alemania, Brasil, Colombia, México y Corea del Sur). Durante su desarrollo, se destacó la importancia de la calidad de la educación para el cumplimiento de los ODS, y se dieron a conocer las experiencias de distintas universidades en relación a la Educación para el Desarrollo Sustentable.

Book excerpt: A raíz de la publicación de la Agenda 2030 por la Unesco en 2015, se establecieron 17 objetivos de desarrollo sostenible (ODS) y las pautas de cómo se ha de proceder con los mismos con la finalidad de hacer realidad los derechos de las personas y fortalecer la paz universal y el acceso a la justicia. Estos objetivos de desarrollo sostenible proponen, como meta educativa, que todos los estudiantes adquieran para 2030 «los conocimientos, las competencias, los valores y las actitudes que se precisan para construir sociedades sostenibles y pacíficas, mediante, entre otras, la educación para la ciudadanía mundial y la educación para el desarrollo sostenible». Los desafíos para una educación de calidad se centran en garantizar una educación inclusiva y equitativa así como promover oportunidades de aprendizaje durante toda la vida. Esta visión de la educación se recoge en el ODS 4: «Garantizar una educación inclusiva, equitativa y de calidad y promover oportunidades de aprendizaje durante toda la vida para todos». A partir de este objetivo principal, se establecen siete objetivos específicos de aprendizaje que todos los países deberán alcanzar para el año 2030. Existe entre los países un gran compromiso para poner en práctica distintas estrategias con el objetivo de alcanzar los 17 ODS. Esta propuesta implica un compromiso común y universal; no obstante, cada país tiene sus propias necesidades con respecto al desarrollo sostenible, por lo que fijarán sus propias metas a partir de los ODS. España ha diseñado su propio plan de acción para la implementación de la Agenda 2030.

In doing so, they generated considerable innovation, which reinforced the integration of the research and outreach functions of the university. The evidence suggests that universities are indeed open systems, in interaction with their environment, able to discover changes that can influence them and to change in response to those changes. They are also able, in the success of their efforts to mitigate the educational impact of the pandemic, to create better futures, as the result of the innovations they can generate. This challenges the view of universities as "ivory towers" being isolated from the surrounding environment and detached from local problems. As they reached out to schools, universities not only generated clear and valuable innovations to sustain educational opportunity and to improve it, this process also contributed to transform internal university processes in ways that enhanced their own ability to deliver on the third mission of outreach
