Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of the Differential Calculus: With Its Application to Curves and Curve Surfaces; Designed for the Use of Students in the University The Fifteenth Chapter is a collection of Miscellaneous Theorem and Problems of great interest and importance, all worked out at length, and evincing in much variety, the Powers of the Calculus as an instrument of Analysis. Though numerous examples, illustrative of their respective subjects, are interspersed throughout most chapters of the work, the importance of Examples for the exercise of the Student has determined the Author shortly to publish a very complete Collection, in which reference is made to the Chapters and Articles of this Volume for the means of their solution. This Collection would have been appended to the present publication, had not the size to which it has alread y arrived induced the Author to change his mind. Book Advanced Calculus Revised Edition

Download or read book Advanced Calculus Revised Edition written by Lynn Harold Loomis and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authorised reissue of the long out of print classic textbook, Advanced Calculus by the late Dr Lynn Loomis and Dr Shlomo Sternberg both of Harvard University has been a revered but hard to find textbook for the advanced calculus course for decades. This book is based on an honors course in advanced calculus that the authors gave in the 1960's. The foundational material, presented in the unstarred sections of Chapters 1 through 11, was normally covered, but different applications of this basic material were stressed from year to year, and the book therefore contains more material than was covered in any one year. It can accordingly be used (with omissions) as a text for a year's course in advanced calculus, or as a text for a three-semester introduction to analysis. The prerequisites are a good grounding in the calculus of one variable from a mathematically rigorous point of view, together with some acquaintance with linear algebra. The reader should be familiar with limit and continuity type arguments and have a certain amount of mathematical sophistication. As possible introductory texts, we mention Differential and Integral Calculus by R Courant, Calculus by T Apostol, Calculus by M Spivak, and Pure Mathematics by G Hardy. The reader should also have some experience with partial derivatives. In overall plan the book divides roughly into a first half which develops the calculus (principally the differential calculus) in the setting of normed vector spaces, and a second half which deals with the calculus of differentiable manifolds.

This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Elementary Treatise on Curve Tracing I DO not much like the idea Of writing a preface, but I feel myself obliged to say a few words on the publication of what I have called a treatise, the term being very likely a misnomer. Although my subject is Curve-tracing and not Curves, I am aware that some complete branches Of this art are not alluded to at all. The student might expect, in a treatise upon this subject, to find methods of drawing Polar Curves, Rolling Curves, Loci Of Equations in Trilinear Coordinates, and Intrinsic Equations; he -might also expect to find interesting Geo metrical Loci discussed; these, and many other things immediately connected with the tracing of curves, have been deliberately omitted, for reasons which I consider good. Download or read book Curious Curves written by Richard B Darst and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2009-10-07 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Curious Curves is self-contained and unified in presentation. This book is suitable for a topics course, capstone course, or senior seminar; it is also intended for independent study by students and others interested in mathematics.Curves can often provide a better representation of natural phenomena than do the figures of classical geometry. Thus the content — presented with an emphasis on the geometric intuition characteristic of the study of curves — is highly relevant not only for people working in mathematics, but also those in other sciences. The explanations are detailed and illustrative to capture the interest of the reader, as well as complete to provide the necessary background information needed to go further into the subject.

Book CRC Standard Curves and Surfaces with Mathematica Second Edition

Download or read book CRC Standard Curves and Surfaces with Mathematica Second Edition written by David H. von Seggern and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-10-20 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of the first edition, Mathematica® has matured considerably and the computing power of desktop computers has increased greatly. This enables the presentation of more complex curves and surfaces as well as the efficient computation of formerly prohibitive graphical plots. Incorporating both of these aspects, CRC Standard Curves and Surfaces with Mathematica®, Second Edition is a virtual encyclopedia of curves and functions that depicts nearly all of the standard mathematical functions rendered using Mathematica. While the easy-to-use format remains unchanged from the previous edition, many chapters have been reorganized and better graphical representations of numerous curves and surfaces have been produced. An introductory chapter describes the basic properties of curves and surfaces, includes two handy tables of 2-D and 3-D curve and surface transformations, and provides a quick understanding of the basic nature of mathematical functions. To facilitate more efficient and more thorough use of the material, the whole gamut of curves and surfaces is divided into sixteen individual chapters. The accompanying CD-ROM includes Mathematica notebooks of code to construct plots of all the functions presented in the book. New to the Second Edition Chapters on minimal surfaces and Green's functions that involve Poisson, wave, diffusion, and Helmholtz equations Knots and links in the 3-D curves chapter Archimedean solids, duals of Platonic solids, and stellated forms in the regular polyhedra chapter Additional curves and surfaces in almost every chapter Expanded index for quick access to curves or surfaces of interest and to find definitions of common mathematical terms Upgraded Mathematica notebooks with more uniform formatting, more complete documentation on particular curves and surfaces, an explanation of the plotting algorithms, and more explicit designations of variable parameters to easily adjust curve or surface plots

Book Handbook and Atlas of Curves

Download or read book Handbook and Atlas of Curves written by Eugene V. Shikin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-04-27 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook and Atlas of Curves describes available analytic and visual properties of plane and spatial curves. Information is presented in a unique format, with one half of the book detailing investigation tools and the other devoted to the Atlas of Plane Curves. Main definitions, formulas, and facts from curve theory (plane and spatial) are discussed in depth. They comprise the necessary apparatus for examining curves. An important and original part of the book is the Atlas, consisting of nearly 200 plane curve classes, more than 700 figures, and nearly 2,000 drawings of specific curves. The classes have been scrupulously chosen for their interesting and useful properties. The dynamics of each class is visually represented by a series of specially arranged precise drawings showing the qualitative change of a curve's behavior as the parameters defining the class vary. The book provides numerous application examples, descriptions of mechanisms for drawing various curves, and discussions of geometric spline possibilities. It includes more than 20 various geometric and linguistic indices and an update on world literature on curve theory. The Handbook and Atlas of Curves will be an invaluable reference for researchers, practitioners, students, and amatuers of mathematics.

Book Practical Curve Tracing

Download or read book Practical Curve Tracing written by R. Howard Duncan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Curve Tracing: With Chapters on Differentiation and Integration The method of measuring the Slope of a curve by actually drawing the tangent is sometimes objected to on the ground of inaccuracy but the author's experience shows that by good and careful workmanship it is possible to rely on the results so obtained to a degree of accuracy which is sufficient for all practical purposes. The author wishes to express his gratitude to Prof. J. Goodman for much valuable help and advice in the preparation and publication of the book; and also to Messrs. G. E. Edson and G. Calverley, for assistance in the preparation of the drawings, and in other ways. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Curve Tracing in Cartesian Coordinates The third side of the Analytical Triangle bears the same relation to the geometrical conception of the line at infinity that the other sides bear to the coordinate axes. I have aimed to bring out this connection in such a way that the student who desires to take up the general theory of curves may gain a clear View of this conception, and be prepared to pass readily from the Cartesian system of coordinates, ln which one of the fundamental lines is the line at infinity, to the generalized system, in which all three fundamental lines are taken at pleasure. Download or read book Mathematics for Physics written by Michael Stone and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-07-09 with total page 821 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An engagingly-written account of mathematical tools and ideas, this book provides a graduate-level introduction to the mathematics used in research in physics. The first half of the book focuses on the traditional mathematical methods of physics – differential and integral equations, Fourier series and the calculus of variations. The second half contains an introduction to more advanced subjects, including differential geometry, topology and complex variables. The authors' exposition avoids excess rigor whilst explaining subtle but important points often glossed over in more elementary texts. The topics are illustrated at every stage by carefully chosen examples, exercises and problems drawn from realistic physics settings. These make it useful both as a textbook in advanced courses and for self-study. Password-protected solutions to the exercises are available to instructors at www.cambridge.org/9780521854030.
