Book Theoretical Span Load Distributions and Rolling Moments for Sideslipping Wings of Arbitrary Plan Form in Incompressible Flow

Download or read book Theoretical Span Load Distributions and Rolling Moments for Sideslipping Wings of Arbitrary Plan Form in Incompressible Flow written by M. J. Queijo and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method of computing span loads and the resulting rolling moments for sideslipping wings of arbitrary plan form in incompressible flow is derived. The method requires that the span load at zero sideslip be known for the wing under consideration. Because this information is available for a variety of wings, this requirement should not seriously restrict the application of the present method. The basic method derived herein requires a mechanical differentiation and integration to obtain the rolling moment for the general wing in sideslip. For wings having straight leading and trailing edges over each semispan, the rolling moment equation in terms of plan-form parameters and the lateral center of pressure of the lift due to angle of attack. Calculated span loads and rolling-moment parameters are compared with experimental values. The comparison indicates good agreement between calculations and available experimental data.

Book Analysis and Comparison with Theory of Flow field Measurements Near a Lifting Rotor in the Langley Full scale Tunnel

Download or read book Analysis and Comparison with Theory of Flow field Measurements Near a Lifting Rotor in the Langley Full scale Tunnel written by Harry H. Heyson and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 696 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of an investigation in the Langley full-scale tunnel of the induced flow near a lifting rotor are given. Measurements of stream angles and velocities were made in several transverse planes along and behind the rotor in four different conditions representative of the cruising and high-speed ranges of flight. These measurements indicate that available theory may be used to calculate with reasonable accuracy the induced flow over the forward three-quarters of the disk for these flight conditions provided that a realistic nonuniform rotor disk-load distribution is assumed. Rearward of the three-quarter-diameter point, calculations of the induced velocity are increasingly inaccurate due to the rolling up of the trailing-vortex system. Farther rearward, well behind the rotor, the flow may be represented more accurately by the flow behind a uniformly loaded wing.

Book A Method for Calculating the Subsonic Steady state Loading on an Airplane with a Wing of Arbitrary Plan Form and Stiffness

Download or read book A Method for Calculating the Subsonic Steady state Loading on an Airplane with a Wing of Arbitrary Plan Form and Stiffness written by W. L. Gray and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method for computing the steady-state span load distribution on an elastic airplane wing for specified airplane weights and load factors is given. The method is based on a modification of the Weissinger L-method and applies at subcritical Mach numbers. It includes the effects of external stores and fuselage on the spanwise loading. Modifications are outlined for treating tail-boom and tailless airplane configurations and for calculating the divergence dynamic pressure of a swept wing with a large external store. A method is also outlined for reducing wind-tunnel data to obtain effective aerodynamic coefficients which are free of model flexibility effects. The effects of Mach number can readily be evaluated from the aerodynamic coefficients thus obtained.

Download or read book Tests of Two blade Propellers in the Langley 8 foot High speed Tunnel to Determine the Effect on Propeller Performance of a Modification of Inboard Pitch Distribution written by James Benjamin Delano and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Section thrust-coefficient data are also presented to afford a more detailed analysis of the effects of modifying the pitch distribution of the inboard sections of a propeller.
