Book Analysis of the Interaction of a Weak Normal Shock Wave with a Turbulent Boundary Layer

Download or read book Analysis of the Interaction of a Weak Normal Shock Wave with a Turbulent Boundary Layer written by R. E. Melnik and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method of matched asymptotic expansions is used to analyze the interaction of a normal shock wave with an unseparated turbulent boundary layer on a flat surface at transonic speeds. The theory leads to a three-layer description of the interaction in the double limit of Reynolds number approaching infinity and Mach number approaching unity. The interaction involves an outer, inviscid rotational layer, a constant shear-stress wall layer, and a blending region between them.

Book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions

Download or read book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions written by Holger Babinsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock wave-boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) is a fundamental phenomenon in gas dynamics that is observed in many practical situations, ranging from transonic aircraft wings to hypersonic vehicles and engines. SBLIs have the potential to pose serious problems in a flowfield; hence they often prove to be a critical - or even design limiting - issue for many aerospace applications. This is the first book devoted solely to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art explanation of this phenomenon. It includes a description of the basic fluid mechanics of SBLIs plus contributions from leading international experts who share their insight into their physics and the impact they have in practical flow situations. This book is for practitioners and graduate students in aerodynamics who wish to familiarize themselves with all aspects of SBLI flows. It is a valuable resource for specialists because it compiles experimental, computational and theoretical knowledge in one place.

Book Reflection of a Weak Shock Wave from a Boundary Layer Along a Flat Plate

Download or read book Reflection of a Weak Shock Wave from a Boundary Layer Along a Flat Plate written by Yung-Huai Kuo and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By analogy with the boundary-layer concept, the flow produced by the interation between a shock wave and a laminar boundary layer is subdivided into a viscous layer and a potential field. The assumptions that the compressibility effect of the inner layer is negligible and that the original flow in the outer layer is uniform lead to simple analytic solutions for the perturbed flow. The joining conditions at the interface between the layers determine an eigenvalue which gives the rate of decay and the character of the disturbances both upstream and downstream of the point of incidence. The final conclusions are in agreement with the experiments.

Book Analytic Investigation of Transonic Normal Shock Boundary Layer Interaction

Download or read book Analytic Investigation of Transonic Normal Shock Boundary Layer Interaction written by W. H. Mason and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in inviscid transonic flow field computational capability and supercritical airfoil design make it important to understand of the the physics of normal shock-boundary layer interactions. In this work, the Navier-Stokes equations are thoroughly investigated through the use of perturbation methods and a generalized multi-region model is proposed for interactions between weak normal shock waves and turbulent boundary layers. This model is first applied to a highly idealized case in which a uniform subsonic flow is used to model the boundary layer, and analytic results for the wall and interface pressure are obtained.
