Book Cages or Wings Poems from Life s Journey

Download or read book Cages or Wings Poems from Life s Journey written by Rachel Crawford and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-05-16 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cages or Wings is a collection of poetry, derived from life’s journey through childhood, sexual 1562 abuse, grief, love, and loss of self. 1563 Deeply personal, intentionally raw, Cages or Wings shows that life can push us to our breaking 1564 point and yet can free us at the same time. 1565 My hope for this work is that it will help at least one person face themselves and the struggles 1566 life puts them through!

Book Journey of the Heart

Download or read book Journey of the Heart written by Catherine Ghosh and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2014-07-25 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has woven together the voices of over seventy women of diverse ethnicities and traditions. In meditative and insightful poems, they offer us revealing glimpses of their souls engaged in meaningful dialogue with the world, others, themselves, and divinity. This spiritual poetry draws from the timeless wisdom, power, and beauty residing deeply within the hearts of all women. Emerging within archetypal themes that deliver valuable messages, the inspiring and uninhibited chorus of voices beckons us to journey along with them into the wild, mysterious, and uncharted territory of a womans heart. In this beautiful volume of poetry, Catherine Ghosh gives us the voices of womens spiritual expressions across cultures. The many women who contribute their hopes, fears, visions, and life narratives to this volume fulfill the poet Muriel Rukeysers injunction: Breathe in experience, breathe out poetry. Every woman (and man) will find poetry that speaks to the heart and the soul. I highly recommend this volume to anyone who values the poetry of womens lives and imaginations. Roberta Rosenberg, Professor of English and Co-Director of Womens and Gender Studies, Christopher Newport University, Virginia This beautiful book of verses speaks of the longings of the heart, the habits of the mind, the prayers often unspoken; of silent cries in the dark to God, to the universe, to life itselfto anyone who may listen and be moved. It is an ode to the muzzled yearnings of half of humanity. Rita D. Sherma, PhD, Swami Vivekananda Visiting Professor, University of Southern California

Book I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

Download or read book I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings written by Maya Angelou and published by Random House. This book was released on 2010-07-21 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is a book as joyous and painful, as mysterious and memorable, as childhood itself. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings captures the longing of lonely children, the brute insult of bigotry, and the wonder of words that can make the world right. Maya Angelou’s debut memoir is a modern American classic beloved worldwide. Sent by their mother to live with their devout, self-sufficient grandmother in a small Southern town, Maya and her brother, Bailey, endure the ache of abandonment and the prejudice of the local “powhitetrash.” At eight years old and back at her mother’s side in St. Louis, Maya is attacked by a man many times her age—and has to live with the consequences for a lifetime. Years later, in San Francisco, Maya learns that love for herself, the kindness of others, her own strong spirit, and the ideas of great authors (“I met and fell in love with William Shakespeare”) will allow her to be free instead of imprisoned. Poetic and powerful, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings will touch hearts and change minds for as long as people read. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings liberates the reader into life simply because Maya Angelou confronts her own life with such a moving wonder, such a luminous dignity.”—James Baldwin From the Paperback edition.

Book Rabindranath Tagore s Journey as an Educator

Download or read book Rabindranath Tagore s Journey as an Educator written by Mohammad A. Quayum and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-20 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at Rabindranath Tagore’s, experiments and journey as an educator and the influence of humanistic worldviews, nationalism and cosmopolitanism in his philosophy of education. It juxtaposes the educational systems and institutions set up by the British colonial administration with Tagore’s pedagogical vision and schools in Santiniketan, West Bengal—Brahmacharya Asram (1901), Visva-Bharati University (1921) and Sriniketan Institute of Village Reconstruction (1922). An educational pioneer and a poet-teacher, Tagore combined nature and culture, tradition and modernity, East and West, in formulating his educational methodology. The essays in this volume analyse the relevance of his theories and practice in encouraging greater cultural exchange and the dissolution of the walls between classrooms and communities. This book will be useful for scholars and researchers of education, Tagore studies, literature, cultural studies, sociology of education, South Asian studies and colonial and postcolonial studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2021 National Book Award for Poetry From the winner of the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize come masterfully crafted narratives of protest, grief and love. Martín Espada is a poet who "stirs in us an undeniable social consciousness," says Richard Blanco. Floaters offers exuberant odes and defiant elegies, songs of protest and songs of love from one of the essential voices in American poetry. Floaters takes its title from a term used by certain Border Patrol agents to describe migrants who drown trying to cross over. The title poem responds to the viral photograph of Óscar and Valeria, a Salvadoran father and daughter who drowned in the Río Grande, and allegations posted in the "I’m 10-15" Border Patrol Facebook group that the photo was faked. Espada bears eloquent witness to confrontations with anti-immigrant bigotry as a tenant lawyer years ago, and now sings the praises of Central American adolescents kicking soccer balls over a barbed wire fence in an internment camp founded on that same bigotry. He also knows that times of hate call for poems of love—even in the voice of a cantankerous Galápagos tortoise. The collection ranges from historical epic to achingly personal lyrics about growing up, the baseball that drops from the sky and smacks Espada in the eye as he contemplates a girl’s gently racist question. Whether celebrating the visionaries—the fallen dreamers, rebels and poets—or condemning the outrageous governmental neglect of his father’s Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane María, Espada invokes ferocious, incandescent spirits.

Book excerpt: The selected works of one of our finest American poets The thread that dangles us between a dark and a darker dark, Is luminous, sure, but smooth sided. Don’t touch it here, and don’t touch it there. Don’t touch it, in fact, anywhere— Let it dangle and hold us hard, let it flash and swing. —from “Scar Tissue” Over the course of his work—more than twenty books in total—Charles Wright has built “one of the truly distinctive bodies of poetry created in the second half of the twentieth century” (David Young, Contemporary Poets). Oblivion Banjo, a capacious new selection spanning his decades-long career, showcases the central themes of Wright’s poetry: “language, landscape, and the idea of God.” No matter the precise subject of each poem, on display here is a vast and rich interior life, a mind wrestling with the tenuous relationship between the ways we describe the world and its reality. The recipient of almost every honor in poetry—the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the Bollingen Prize, to name a few—and a former poet laureate of the United States, Wright is an essential voice in American letters. Oblivion Banjo is the perfect distillation of his inimitable career—for devout fans and newcomers alike.

Book Essenced to Language

Download or read book Essenced to Language written by Nayef Al-Joulan and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2007 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rosenberg was more than just a war poet. A general failure to take this into consideration has contributed to the belated recognition of the distinctions of his work. A working-class London Jew, he schooled himself, long before the Great War, to respond to issues of class, culture, art and poetry; a combination of dependency and self-sufficiency which sustains his mature work, and which gave him a sense of himself as an Anglo-Jewish poet. To illuminate Rosenberg, Nayef Al-Joulan considers the conditions of the Jewish community in the East End of London at the turn of the century and examines the writer's attitudes to the Zionism in vogue. He also investigates striking echoes of Freudian psychology in Rosenberg's work. Tracing Rosenberg's working-class literary heritage, Al-Joulan underlines a modern Jewish insight that has parallels with Marx and Freud and therefore uncovers the role class and race played in the critical marginalising of Rosenberg. The book concludes by examining Rosenberg's cognitive ekphrasis, his idea of language as a vehicle for mental essence, a perception rooted into the painter's mind.
