Book excerpt: Cade Cauldron is good at worrying. It's what he does. That, and manage the nutrition of the racing horses on his family's ranch. He's devoted to making the place a continuing success, and like 80% of his worrying is about Cauldron Valley Ranch... Right up until his grandfather tells him and his brothers and cousins that it's time for them to marry. Then he's got a whole other pile of worries. Dr. Jami Boatright has made a career out of studying modern-day marriages of convenience, and her bestselling books on the subject have made her a common name when it comes to the psychology and anthropology of marriage. But there's one thing lacking from her research...she's never actually been married, much less experienced a marriage of convenience. But when she arrives at the ranch, studying the latest Cauldron cousin's meeting-at-the-altar, Cade realizes she's exactly what he needs: A wife who will say yes for reasons of her own. A real-life modern marriage of convenience. But after the "I Do"s, real trouble starts, as they realize they don't know everything they thought they did about their new spouse. And even worse...these revelations don't seem to matter to their hearts, which keep forgetting this marriage has nothing to do with love. Or does it?

Book Compatibility of Transactional Resolutions of Antitrust Proceedings with Due Process and Fundamental Rights Online Exhaustion of IP Rights

Download or read book Compatibility of Transactional Resolutions of Antitrust Proceedings with Due Process and Fundamental Rights Online Exhaustion of IP Rights written by Bruce Kilpatrick and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-08 with total page 681 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an unparalleled comparative analysis of two "hot topics" in the field of antitrust and unfair competition laws with regard to a number of key countries. The first part of the book examines the consistency and compatibility of transactional resolutions of antitrust proceedings (such as settlement procedures, leniency programmes and commitments) with due process and the fundamental rights of the parties. This is a particularly important topic, given the widespread adoption of these procedures by anti-trust authorities worldwide. The individual chapters consider how the leniency, settlement and commitments procedures have developed across a range of jurisdictions, and discuss the extent to which checks and balances have been applied in those national procedures in order to safeguard the fundamental rights of the parties involved. A detailed international report identifies general trends and highlights the differences between and most interesting features of national regulations. The second part of the book gathers contributions from various jurisdictions on the unfair competition-related question of the online exhaustion of IP rights. As commerce is increasingly moving online, the respective chapters consider the extent to which exhaustion and similar concepts have adapted to these rapid changes. The comprehensive and insightful international report brings together these reflections by comparing various national positions. The book also includes the resolutions passed by the General Assembly of the LIDC following a debate on each of these topics, which include proposed solutions and recommendations. The international League of Competition Law (LIDC) is a long-standing international association that focuses on the interface between competition law and intellectual property law, including unfair competition issues.

Book Radical Shakespeare

Download or read book Radical Shakespeare written by Chris Fitter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-03 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that Shakespeare was permanently preoccupied with the brutality, corruption, and ultimate groundlessness of the political order of his state, and that the impact of original Tudor censorship, supplemented by the relatively depoliticizing aesthetic traditions of later centuries, have together obscured the consistent subversiveness of his work. Traditionally, Shakespeare’s political attitudes have been construed either as primarily conservative, or as essays in richly imaginative ambiguation, irreducible to settled viewpoints. Fitter contends that government censorship forced superficial acquiescence upon Shakespeare in establishment ideologies — monarchic, aristocratic and patriarchal — that were enunciated through rhetorical set pieces, but that Shakespeare the dramatist learned from Shakespeare the actor a variety of creative methods for sabotaging those perspectives in performance in the public theatres. Using historical contextualizations and recuperation of original performance values, the book argues that Shakespeare emerged as a radical writer not in middle age with King Lear and Coriolanus — plays whose radicalism is becoming widely recognized — but from his outset, with Henry VI and Taming of the Shrew. Recognizing Shakespeare’s allusiveness to 1590s controversies and dissident thought, and recovering the subtextual politics of Shakespeare’s distinctive stagecraft reveals populist, at times even radical meaning and a substantially new, and astonishingly interventionist, Shakespeare.
