Book Computer Applications in Near Net Shape Operations

Download or read book Computer Applications in Near Net Shape Operations written by Andrew Y.C. Nee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having edited "Journal of Materials Processing Technology" (previously entitled "Journal of Mechanical Working Technology") for close on 25 years, I have seen the many dramatic changes that have occurred in the materials processing field. Long gone are the days when the only "materials processing" carried out was virtually the forming of conventional metals and alloys, and when the development of a new product or process in a great number of cases called for several months of repetitive trial-and-error,' with many (mostly intuition- or experience-based) expensive and time-consuming modifications being made to the dies, until success was achieved. Even when a 'successful' product was formed, its mechanical properties, in terms of springback and dimensional accuracy, thickness variations, residual stresses, surface finish, etc. , remained to be determined. Bulk-forming operations usually required expensive machining to be carried out on the product to impart the required dimensional accuracy and surface fmish. Over the years, the experience-based craft of metal forming has given way to the science of materials processing. With the use of the computer, forming operations can be simulated with accuracy, to determine the best forming route and the associated forming loads and die stresses, and to predict the mechanical properties of the formed product, even down to its surface texture.

Book COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN OF GATING SYSTEM FOR A DIE CASTING DIE

Download or read book COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN OF GATING SYSTEM FOR A DIE CASTING DIE written by Dr. Chandan Deep Singh and published by BookRix. This book was released on 2018-02-15 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design of a die-casting die is a critical activity for its manufacturing and further downstream activities. Further, in design of a die-casting die, activities like cavity design, cavity layout and design of gating system are essential components. Design of gating system for a die-casting die is dependent upon a number of parameters which are influenced by part design and die-casting alloy. Gating system design takes much time of the die-casting expert since it requires lot of manual input and a number of iterations to finalize the design. This requires a good knowledge of die-casting process, making this activity completely dependent on the user. In modern day industry lot of CAD/CAM tools are being applied for design, development and manufacturing of a die-casting die. However, dependency on a die-casting expert throughout design and manufacturing of die-casting die makes it a quite lengthy process. Gating system design being one of the major activities in die design also takes much time. Therefore, it would be quite beneficial to automate the activity of the gating system design. This work is about computer aided design of gating system for die-casting die. Proposed system takes CAD file of the die-casting part as input and uses die-casting process knowledge to determine different parameters for the gating system. Designs of the components of the gating system like runner, gate and overflow have been attempted. A feature library has been proposed as a part of this work which together with parametric design of the gating system generates CAD model of the components of the gating system. The system has been tested on a number of industrial parts and results found are quite encouraging. The system would go a long way in bridging the gap between designing and manufacturing of die-casting.

Book Modeling of Curves and Surfaces in CAD CAM

Download or read book Modeling of Curves and Surfaces in CAD CAM written by Mamoru Hosaka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1 Aims and Features of This Book The contents of t. his book were originally planned t. o be included in a book en titled Geometric lIIodeling and CAD/CAM to be written by M. Hosaka and F. Kimura, but since the draft. of my part of the book was finished much earlier than Kimura's, we decided to publish this part separately at first. In it, geometrically oriented basic methods and tools used for analysis and synthesis of curves and surfaces used in CAD/CAM, various expressions and manipulations of free-form surface patches and their connection, interference as well as their qualit. y eval uation are treated. They are important elements and procedures of geometric models. And construction and utilization of geometric models which include free-form surfaces are explained in the application examples, in which the meth ods and the techniques described in this book were used. In the succeeding book which Kimura is to write, advanced topics such as data structures of geometric models, non-manifold models, geometric inference as well as tolerance problems and product models, process planning and so on are to be included. Conse quently, the title of this book is changed to Modeling of Curves and Surfaces in CAD/CAM. Features of this book are the following. Though there are excellent text books in the same field such as G. Farin's Curves and Surfaces for CAD /CAM[l] and C. M.

Book excerpt: "Developments in Computer-Integrated Manufacturing" arose from the joint work of members of the IFIP-Working Group 5.3 - Discrete Manufacturing, and other IFIP members. Within the Technical Committee 5 of the International Federation of Information Processing (lFIP) the aim of this Working Group is the advancement of computers and their application to the field of discrete part manufacturing. Capabilities will be expanded in the general areas of planning, selection, and con trol of manufacturing equipment and systems. Tools for problem solution include: mathematics, geometry, algorithms, computer techniques, and manufacturing technology. This technology will influence many industries - machine tool, auto mation, aircraft, appliance, and electronics, to name but a few. The Working Group undertook the following specific tasks: 1. To maintain liaison with other national and international organizations work ing in the same field, cooperating with them whenever desirable to further the common goal 2. To be responsible for the IFIP's work in organizing and presenting the PRO LAMA T Conferences 3. To conduct other working conferences and symposia as deemed appropriate in furthering its mission 4. To develop and sponsor research and industrial and social studies into the various aspects of its mission. The book can be regarded as an attempt to underline the main aspects of techno logy from the point of view of its software and hardware realization. Because of limitations in size and the availability of literature, the problems of robotics and quality control are not described in detail.
