Book Button Gwinnett Man of Mystery

Download or read book Button Gwinnett Man of Mystery written by William Montgomery Clemens and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Button Gwinnett, Man of Mystery: Member of the Continental Congress, Signer of the Declaration of Independence, President of the Provincial Council of Georgia, a Brief Biographical Review Button Gwinnett, member of the Continental Con gress from Georgia, and Signer of the Declaration of In dependence, like the Man in the Iron Mask, was a man of mystery. No patriot of the American Revolution, no citizen of the Republic, is as little known, nor is there such meagre material in manuscript or printed book, con cerning any individual in American history. He has been likened to a meteor, flashing across the universe, and in his brief career of scarce half a dozen years small record is left to us of his movements and activities during this brief period of time. Coming out of the vast unknown, he flashes the light of his being upon the world, and fades away into' an obscurity and a darkness more intense than that from which he emerged. A remarkable figure in the early history of a great Southern state, we know less of him now, than was known in the year of 1776, when in Philadelphia, he signed the immortal document, that makes his name endure for all time. We are informed by a writer in the Encyclopedia Brit tanica1 that Gwinnett was born in England in 1732 and was a merchant in Bristol. Harper's Cyclopedia of United States History2 says he was born about 1732. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: TigerBeat for U.S. presidents—a tour of our nation’s history through its irresistible commanders-in-chief Is there anything hotter than former U.S. presidents? Obviously, there is not. And yet, until now, there was no way to learn about these handsome and mysterious men that is funny, educational, and includes thoughtful analysis of which ones would make good boyfriends. Thankfully, Hottest Heads of State fills this void. Get to know each president intimately with an individual profile outlining his particular charms (or, in some cases, “charms”). Plus, inside you’ll find: · GAMES including “Match the Mistress to her POTUS” · QUIZZES like “Which President has a Secret Crush on You?” and “Can You Cover Up Watergate?” · that POSTER of Rutherford B. Hayes you’ve always secretly wanted! J. D. and Kate Dobson’s wickedly smart and refreshingly bipartisan debut is a spot-on parody of a teen magazine featuring such unlikely heartthrobs as Richard Nixon and William H. Taft. In the end, you’ll learn centuries’ worth of cocktail party-worthy trivia, and you’ll be slightly more prepared to take the AP U.S. History exam. You’ll also start tingling whenever you hear the name Herbert Hoover.

Book Lives of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence

Download or read book Lives of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence written by Benson John Lossing and published by Tales End Press. This book was released on 2012-08-06 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifty-six signers of America's Declaration of Independence risked their “lives, fortunes, and sacred honor” to found a new country. In this classic work, Benson J. Lossing describes the lives of each of the founding fathers, their greatest achievements, and what impelled them to take such an incredible risk. While some are well known to us – Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock – much of the pleasure in this book comes from reading about the lesser-known signers, and about the many challenges they faced throughout their lives in the young United States. Appendices contain Thomas Jefferson's original version of the Declaration, an analysis of its grievances, the subsequent Articles of Confederation and US Constitution, and the offending Stamp Act. This ebook edition includes an active table of contents, reflowable text, and 50 period engravings of the faces and signatures of the signers.

Book The American Revolution in Georgia 1763 1789

Download or read book The American Revolution in Georgia 1763 1789 written by Kenneth Coleman and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American Revolution in Georgia explores the political, economic, and social impacts of the American Revolution throughout the state of Georgia. In this detailed historical study, Kenneth Coleman describes the events leading up to the Revolution, the fighting years of war, and the years of readjustment after independence became a reality for the United States. Coleman investigates how these events impacted Georgia’s history forever, from the rise of discontent between 1764 and 1774 to the fighting after the siege in Savannah between 1779 and 1782 and changes in interstate affairs between 1782 to 1789, and more. The American Revolution in Georgia contributes to the complicated history of the American Revolution and its impacts on the South.
