Book The Doleful Creatures of Outer Darkness

Download or read book The Doleful Creatures of Outer Darkness written by Tina M. Moore and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-05-22 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perhaps you or someone you know exhibits patterns of instability in a particular aspect of life. This fluctuation may show up as erratic mood changes, excessive fears or worries, extreme feelings of guilt, bouts of depression, double-mindedness, addictive behaviors, sexual bondage, etc. In the New Testament, Paul teaches us that our struggle is not against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. The evil spirits that Paul referred to here are synonymous with the “wild beasts” that tempted Jesus in the wilderness for forty days. As a matter of fact, they are the same spirits that pressure us today, compelling us to the bitter realm of what the Bible refers to as outer darkness. The Old Testament reveals that these spirits embodied animals, the metaphorical doleful creatures mentioned in the book of Isaiah and throughout the entire Bible. However, God’s desire is to shine a light on these irritants so that we can cast them out and be made whole again. After all, Paul encouraged us to be openly aware of Satan’s devices, lest he should gain an advantage over us. The revelation knowledge you receive from this book will give you the insight you need to recover the parts of your life you’ve once lost or handed over to the enemy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Gospel-Rich, Reproducible Model for Making Disciples as Jesus Intended Biblical discipleship emphasizes encouragement, repentance, and spiritual growth—essential parts of the Christian life. However, well-meaning believers often struggle to follow Jesus, unaware their views are too legalistic, licentious, or individualistic. How can churches and Christians develop a healthy, successful path to disciple-making? In this second edition of Gospel-Centered Discipleship, Jonathan Dodson presents an effective, Spirit-led model for sanctification. Reminding readers that real discipleship is imperfect yet transformational, Dodson encourages Christians to engage more authentically with others as they grow in faith. Drawing from his own failures and successes while following Jesus, Dodson defines discipleship, describes the heart of a disciple, and gives practical guidance for mentor and peer-based discipleship as Jesus intended. Revised and Expanded: Includes three new chapters and new illustrations Applicable: Shows how discipleship can be practical and gospel-centered Theological: Addresses the Holy Spirit's involvement in discipleship Foreword by Matt Chandler: Author of The Explicit Gospel

Book excerpt: This book is written for those among us who have weathered life’s storms, yet sense a nagging emptiness in their spiritual well-being. Lenten Reflections: From the Desert to the Resurrection is written for those of us who want to be more spiritual. It is divided into four parts. Part One sets the framework for a treatment of the study of our salvation. It is devoted to the historical roots of Lent, its purpose, and its theology. To that end, this section also provides the reader with an overview of the creation story, a discussion of evil and sin, and a summary of the Trinity and the incarnation. Part Two sets the stage for an initial reflection on Lent, while Part Three introduces the disciplines needed to successfully pass through the desert to spiritual wholeness. Four seminal questions are posed: Where are we? What are we? Who are we? Why are we? Answers to these questions set the stage for what many spiritual masters call the purgative way, in which the Twelve-Step Program of Alcoholic Anonymous is suggested as a framework to one’s first steps into spiritual wholeness. At some point in their spiritual journey, the reader moves into what these same spiritual masters call the illuminative and unitive ways. Part Four is entitled “The Agony and Exultation.” Here, we join Jesus on the road to Calvary, where he is crucified. We know a mysterious joy as he rises from the tomb. We end our reflections with his departure from his disciples, the coming of the Paraclete, and a new understanding of the meaning behind Jesus’ sacrifice and life on earth.

Book Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit

Download or read book Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit written by Thomas Keating and published by Lantern Books. This book was released on 2000 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas Keating has spent more than fifty years in sustained practice and devotion to the spiritual life. The results of this creative, humble activity are now summarized in this remarkable book, Fruits and Gifts of the Spirit. As Father Keating says, the spiritual journey is a gradual process of enlarging our emotional, mental, and physical relationship with the divine reality that is present in us, but one not ordinarily accessible to our emotions or concepts. The spiritual journey teaches us, first, to believe in the Divine Indwelling within us, fully present and energizing every level of our being; second, to recognize that this energy is benign, healing, and transforming; and third, to enjoy its gradual unfolding step-by-step both in prayer and action.
