Download or read book Building Foundations in Yakutsk written by N. I. Saltykov and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuous study of existing experience in construction for occupancy and industrial purposes in Yakutsk was begun in 1929 by the Yakutsk Expedition of the USSR Academy of Sciences. This institution was reorganized in 1941 into the Permafrost Station of the V.A. Obruchev Institute of Permafrostology of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The importance of this accumulated experience extends far beyond Yakutsk, which is one of the largest towns of the Soviet northeast. The entire central portion of Yakutia and the districts bordering thereon have permafrost and climatic conditions similar to those of Yakutsk. This mades it possible to apply the lessons of construction in Yakutsk over that entire territory, which is largest in area than Germany and France combined. Some of these conclusions may even be applied over the entire permafrost zone, that is, over a territory of ten million square kilometers. That indicates the importance of the study of construction experience in Yakutsk and its great practical significance at the present moment, when many permafrost districts are becoming rapidly growing centers of industry. Download or read book The Periglacial Environment written by Hugh M. French and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 755 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Periglacial Environment, Fourth Edition, is an authoritative overview of the world’s cold, non-glacial environments. First published in 1976 and subsequently revised in 1996 and 2007, the text has been the international standard for nearly 40 years. The Fourth Edition continues to be a personal interpretation of the frost-induced conditions, geomorphic processes and landforms that characterize periglacial environments. Part One discusses the periglacial concept and describes the typical climates and ecosystems that are involved. Part Two describes the geocryology (permafrost science) associated with frozen ground. Part Three outlines the weathering and geomorphic processes associated with cold-climate conditions. Part Four provides insight into the periglacial environments of the Quaternary, especially the Late Pleistocene. Part Five describes some of the problems associated with human occupancy in regions that experience frozen ground and cold-climate conditions. Extensively revised and updated Written by an expert with over 50 years of field research Draws upon the author’s personal experience from Northern Canada, Alaska, Siberia, Tibet, Antarctica, Svalbard, Scandinavia, southern South America, Western Europe and eastern North America This book is an invaluable reference for advanced undergraduates in geography, geology, earth sciences and environmental sciences programs, and to resource managers and geotechnical engineers interested in cold regions.

This book was released on 2022-03-18 with total page 1646 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents latest developments in the field of high-speed railway, Hyperloop transportation technologies and Maglev system. In recent years, railway transport has received a powerful impetus in its development. With the advent of the 4th Industrial revolution, the transport sector is moving towards full digitalization. TransSiberia is a platform where both the rail industry and the communications industry can meet and converge. The book contains papers prepared by experts from both sectors. This is primarily research in the field of the ICT technologies, which will be used for the future railway system. The results of studies on the design of intelligent autonomous transport systems and the operation of high-speed railways in the harsh weather conditions of Siberia are presented in detail. The book presents the state of the art in smart grid technology for railway power systems. This will contribute to decarbonization of the railway. The presented technical innovations in railway science and engineering will help scientists and engineers create a new generation of trains running on alternative fuels and capable of functioning without interruptions in any climatic conditions.
