Book Budgeting Is More Liberation Than Limitation

Download or read book Budgeting Is More Liberation Than Limitation written by Roshawnna Novellus and published by . This book was released on 2015-02-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We spend large portions of our lives working. The purpose is to exchange our time and expertise for the opportunity to lead the lives we desire. However, work alone does not confer the ideal life. Integration with a budget - i.e. wise decision making, planning, and discipline - reigns imperative. A budget is an estimate of income and expenditure for a set period of time. This process increases the likelihood of exchanging your opportunities into successes - by knowing the necessary information and planning accordingly. Therefore, you owe it to yourself to budget if you truly want to achieve the life you desire. To budget is to plan; to plan is to value your impact on the circumstances. The mechanics of budgeting follow the well-known practice of shifting thoughts to actions and values. We know that practices such as setting yearly goals, creating vision boards, and surrounding yourself with like-minded people lend to reaching greater success than the contrary. Yet, many ditch these tried and true principals in favor of just hoping that everything will work out. While positivity goes a long way, coupling the positivity with right planning gives a push in the right direction. The ultimate desire is to lead a life full of happiness and contentment. This is possible when a sense of balance exists. Since all decisions are connected, our priorities, values, perceptions, habits and circumstances all impact the usefulness of our budget. Being in control of our personal path is the goal. How important are your goals? You decide.

Book The Tides of Reform

Download or read book The Tides of Reform written by Paul Charles Light and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past fifty years, the Congresses and presidents of the United States have made many efforts to improve the performance of the federal government. In this book, a leading expert in public management examines the most important reform statutes passed and concludes that the problem is not too little reform but too much. Paul Light explains that Congress and the presidency have never decided whether they trust government and its employees to do their jobs well, and so they have moved back and forth over the decades between four reform philosophies: scientific management, war on waste, watchful eye, and liberation management. These four philosophies, argues Light, operate with different goals, implementation strategies, and impacts. Yet reform initiatives draw on one or another of them almost at random, often canceling out the potential benefits of a particular statute by passing a contradictory statute soon afterward. Light shows that as the public has become increasingly distrustful of government, the reform agenda has favored the war on waste and watchful eye. He analyzes the consequences of these changes for the overall performance of government and offers policy recommendations for future reform approaches.

This book was released on 2017-04-27 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the United States, some populations suffer from far greater disparities in health than others. Those disparities are caused not only by fundamental differences in health status across segments of the population, but also because of inequities in factors that impact health status, so-called determinants of health. Only part of an individual's health status depends on his or her behavior and choice; community-wide problems like poverty, unemployment, poor education, inadequate housing, poor public transportation, interpersonal violence, and decaying neighborhoods also contribute to health inequities, as well as the historic and ongoing interplay of structures, policies, and norms that shape lives. When these factors are not optimal in a community, it does not mean they are intractable: such inequities can be mitigated by social policies that can shape health in powerful ways. Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity seeks to delineate the causes of and the solutions to health inequities in the United States. This report focuses on what communities can do to promote health equity, what actions are needed by the many and varied stakeholders that are part of communities or support them, as well as the root causes and structural barriers that need to be overcome.

Book Participatory Budgeting in Europe

Download or read book Participatory Budgeting in Europe written by Yves Sintomer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-10 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can participatory budgeting help make public services really work for the public? Incorporating a range of experiments in ten different countries, this book provides the first comprehensive analysis of participatory budgeting in Europe and the effect it has had on democracy, the modernization of local government, social justice, gender mainstreaming and sustainable development. By focussing on the first decade of European participatory budgeting and analysing the results and the challenges affecting the agenda today it provides a critical appraisal of the participatory model. Detailed comparisons of European cases expose similarities and differences between political cultures and offer a strong empirical basis to discuss the theories of deliberative and participatory democracy and reveal contradictory tendencies between political systems, public administrations and democratic practices.

Book excerpt: "The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic marks the most significant, singular global disruption since World War II, with health, economic, political, and security implications that will ripple for years to come." -Global Trends 2040 (2021) Global Trends 2040-A More Contested World (2021), released by the US National Intelligence Council, is the latest report in its series of reports starting in 1997 about megatrends and the world's future. This report, strongly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic, paints a bleak picture of the future and describes a contested, fragmented and turbulent world. It specifically discusses the four main trends that will shape tomorrow's world: - Demographics-by 2040, 1.4 billion people will be added mostly in Africa and South Asia. - Economics-increased government debt and concentrated economic power will escalate problems for the poor and middleclass. - Climate-a hotter world will increase water, food, and health insecurity. - Technology-the emergence of new technologies could both solve and cause problems for human life. Students of trends, policymakers, entrepreneurs, academics, journalists and anyone eager for a glimpse into the next decades, will find this report, with colored graphs, essential reading.
