There's the medical nitty gritty: getting a diagnosis (or not); selecting a fertility clinic that's right for you; understanding IUI and IVF and genetic testing; a comprehensive list of medications and their side effects, and much more. There are emotional high and lows: staying hopeful while managing grief and depression, maintaining and strengthening your relationship, and navigating religious and ethical concerns. Book Infertility

    Book Details:
  • Author : Allan A. Templeton
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1447119622
  • Pages : 433 pages

Download or read book Infertility written by Allan A. Templeton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infertility, as with many aspects of medicine, is at the mercy of rapid technological advance. Many of these developments initially seem attractive to both clinicians and patients, but need to be rigorously assessed if their real value is to be understood and clinical practice is to develop. In this book issues of importance to the management of infertile patients are discussed. The gaps in our knowledge which prevent a better understanding of the condition are identified, and recent developments, both clinical and scientific, are subjected to peer review and discussion. An important feature of the book is an acceptance that training in infertility practice is a real problem. This is perceived not only by the practising clinicians, both doctors and nurses, but particularly by the clinical scientists, including embryologists, who now provide such an essential part of the service. Similarly the provision of the clinical service has been examined in detail from a variety of standpoints, in an attempt to make sensible recommendations which balance real need with limited resource. The book is based on the papers presented and discussed at the 25th RCOG Study Group held in April 1992. The discussion after each paper was civilised but uncompromising and forms an important part of this publication. The rapid processing of the written and recorded material by the staff at the RCOG, and particularly Miss Sally Barber, has ensured that the book has been produced while the issues are live, the reviews contemporary and the discussion relevant.

Book Using Science to Improve the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program

Download or read book Using Science to Improve the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2013-10-04 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using Science to Improve the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program: A Way Forward reviews the science that underpins the Bureau of Land Management's oversight of free-ranging horses and burros on federal public lands in the western United States, concluding that constructive changes could be implemented. The Wild Horse and Burro Program has not used scientifically rigorous methods to estimate the population sizes of horses and burros, to model the effects of management actions on the animals, or to assess the availability and use of forage on rangelands. Evidence suggests that horse populations are growing by 15 to 20 percent each year, a level that is unsustainable for maintaining healthy horse populations as well as healthy ecosystems. Promising fertility-control methods are available to help limit this population growth, however. In addition, science-based methods exist for improving population estimates, predicting the effects of management practices in order to maintain genetically diverse, healthy populations, and estimating the productivity of rangelands. Greater transparency in how science-based methods are used to inform management decisions may help increase public confidence in the Wild Horse and Burro Program.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infertility affects about five million individuals of childbearing age in the United States, yet infertility is a subject about which many people are reluctant to talk. This book discusses extensively many options available to individuals struggling with infertility. Infertility can result from a number of causes and affects men and women in equal numbers. Difficulty conceiving can take a heavy toll on couples both physically and psychologically and can lead to depression and marital discord. There are, however, many options available to those struggling with infertility for having a child. These include innovative medical procedures and powerful drugs as well as a variety of alternative treatment approaches, surrogacy, and adoption. A part of Greenwood's Health and Medical Issues Today series, this book provides an overview of these options and examines the many health, financial, and ethical decisions of each that must be considered when choosing one. Part I explores what causes infertility and the history and evolution of its treatment and then examines the options available today, detailing how they work, their success rates, and their risks. Additionally, it addresses controversial topics such as the legislation of assisted reproductive technologies and the regulation of fertility clinics. Part II delves into the many scientific, economic, and ethical debates that surround infertility treatment, presenting a clear and objective analysis of the issues. Part III provides a variety of useful supplementary materials, including case studies, a timeline of critical events, a glossary, and a directory of resources.
