Download or read book Eucalypt Ecology written by Jann Elizabeth Williams and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-11-13 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dominant trees of Australia, eucalypts make up a remarkable genus. This authoritative volume provides current reviews by active researchers of many disciplines, including evolutionary history, genetics, distribution and modelling, the relationship of eucalypts to fire and nutrients, ecophysiology, pollination and reproductive ecology, interactions between eucalypts and other co-existing biota (including fungi, invertebrates and vertebrates), and conservation and management. Together these reviews shed light on the reasons for the great success of eucalypts in Australian environments, and provide a comprehensive summary for comparison with the ecology of major woody plant genera in other continents. This volume is of particular relevance to Australian ecologists, but also provides a stimulating perspective to students of vegetation ecology in all continents.

Download or read book Rare or Threatened Australian Plants written by JD Briggs and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rare or Threatened Australian Plants (ROTAP) list and associated coding system was developed and has been maintained by CSIRO since 1979, and lists taxa that are Presumed Extinct, Endangered, Vulnerable, Rare or Poorly Known at the national level. This edition provides the most up-to-date list for conservation purposes. A significant number of endangered and Vulnerable taxa are included, which have not yet been considered for inclusion on either the Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council list or the Commonwealth's Schedule 1. This is the first ROTAP publication to include subspecies and varieties, and the list now includes 5031 taxa. There have also been at least 3270 amendments to data for listed taxa. A total of 2012 additional records of regional data for tax already listed has been included. A key factor in the development of public opinion, and the design of effective management schemes, lies in the production of accurate data to tell the story. What is threatened? Where is it found? These are two of the most fundamental questions to answer before any strategic plans can be drawn up. Obtaining such apparently simple statistics is a huge task. Rare or Threatened Australian Plants is therefore an important reference for the national status of threatened species, particularly for Rare and Poorly Known species.

Download or read book Old Currango written by Harry Hill and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "By 1980 Old Currango was over 100 years old. It was the oldest standing building in Kosciuszko National Park, but was fast moving towards the ruin classification. Luckily, the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service found volunteers, linked with Kozcuiszko Huts Association, who were willing to restore the building. The restoration started in 1987 and took eight years to complete. Harry Hill has documeted all the restoration work, has researched the building's history, and most importantly, has hunted for, and found, 20 people who had a close association with the building and the area in years past. Their recollections provide fascinating snapshots of the earlier part of the century. This is a very readable book and will be appreciated by thoseinterested in Australia's cultural heritage." --Back cover.
