Book Buddhism Conquers Subconsciousness

Download or read book Buddhism Conquers Subconsciousness written by Thich Thanh Thien and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-07-15 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides the truth of Buddhism history and the basic Buddhism principles, such as the Four Noble Truth and the Noble Eightfold Path, which have been misunderstood for thousands of years due to the misleading transmission of the nonenlightened monks and now have been thoroughly recognized and explained by the enlightened master Thích Thanh Thin with the knowledge inherited from his master, Thích Thông Lc. As an enlightened one, he shares his own practicing methods that focus on capturing and controlling the operation of Consciousness and Subconsciousness, the two factors that have contributed to all the misunderstandings in history and principles and interrupts the path to enlightenment ever since. His methods are very simple yet unique and effective and to be demonstrated by his explanation and evidence in the book.

Translated into clear English and organized in an outline form to make it approachable by anyone, this unique work also provides key terms in Sanskrit and Chinese. These terms have been translated into English in ways that offer a fresh and thought-provoking perspective on their originally intended meaning rather than merely repeating past conventions. The introduction, footnoting and index provide a comprehensive background on Buddhist concepts, Buddhist schools of thought and Buddhist history relevant to the translation. This groundbreaking work provides a unique opportunity for those interested in Buddhism to cut through its seemingly complex array of terms and concepts and make sense of its profound explanation of the human condition.

Download or read book Zen and the Brain written by James H. Austin and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1999-06-04 with total page 876 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A neuroscientist and Zen practitioner interweaves the latest research on the brain with his personal narrative of Zen. Aldous Huxley called humankind's basic trend toward spiritual growth the "perennial philosophy." In the view of James Austin, the trend implies a "perennial psychophysiology"—because awakening, or enlightenment, occurs only when the human brain undergoes substantial changes. What are the peak experiences of enlightenment? How could these states profoundly enhance, and yet simplify, the workings of the brain? Zen and the Brain presents the latest evidence. In this book Zen Buddhism becomes the opening wedge for an extraordinarily wide-ranging exploration of consciousness. In order to understand which brain mechanisms produce Zen states, one needs some understanding of the anatomy, physiology, and chemistry of the brain. Austin, both a neurologist and a Zen practitioner, interweaves the most recent brain research with the personal narrative of his Zen experiences. The science is both inclusive and rigorous; the Zen sections are clear and evocative. Along the way, Austin examines such topics as similar states in other disciplines and religions, sleep and dreams, mental illness, consciousness-altering drugs, and the social consequences of the advanced stage of ongoing enlightenment.

Book Beyond the Self

    Book Details:
  • Author : Matthieu Ricard
  • Publisher : MIT Press
  • Release : 2018-11-13
  • ISBN : 0262536145
  • Pages : 294 pages

Download or read book Beyond the Self written by Matthieu Ricard and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Buddhist monk and esteemed neuroscientist discuss their converging—and diverging—views on the mind and self, consciousness and the unconscious, free will and perception, and more. Buddhism shares with science the task of examining the mind empirically; it has pursued, for two millennia, direct investigation of the mind through penetrating introspection. Neuroscience, on the other hand, relies on third-person knowledge in the form of scientific observation. In this book, Matthieu Ricard, a Buddhist monk trained as a molecular biologist, and Wolf Singer, a distinguished neuroscientist—close friends, continuing an ongoing dialogue—offer their perspectives on the mind, the self, consciousness, the unconscious, free will, epistemology, meditation, and neuroplasticity. Ricard and Singer’s wide-ranging conversation stages an enlightening and engaging encounter between Buddhism’s wealth of experiential findings and neuroscience’s abundance of experimental results. They discuss, among many other things, the difference between rumination and meditation (rumination is the scourge of meditation, but psychotherapy depends on it); the distinction between pure awareness and its contents; the Buddhist idea (or lack of one) of the unconscious and neuroscience’s precise criteria for conscious and unconscious processes; and the commonalities between cognitive behavioral therapy and meditation. Their views diverge (Ricard asserts that the third-person approach will never encounter consciousness as a primary experience) and converge (Singer points out that the neuroscientific understanding of perception as reconstruction is very like the Buddhist all-discriminating wisdom) but both keep their vision trained on understanding fundamental aspects of human life.

Download or read book Tantric Buddhism and Altered States of Consciousness written by Louise Child and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the role of altered states of consciousness in the communication of social and emotional energies, both on a societal level and between individual persons. Drawing from an original reading of Durkheimian social theorists (including Mauss, Hertz, and Hubert) and Jungian psychology, Louise Child applies this analysis to tantric Buddhist ritual and biographical material. She suggests ways in which dreams and visionary experiences (including those related to the 'subtle body') play an important and previously under-explored role in tantric understandings of the consort relationship.

Book Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha

Download or read book Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha written by Daniel Ingram and published by Aeon Books. This book was released on 2020-01-20 with total page 715 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The very idea that the teachings can be mastered will arouse controversy within Buddhist circles. Even so, Ingram insists that enlightenment is an attainable goal, once our fanciful notions of it are stripped away, and we have learned to use meditation as a method for examining reality rather than an opportunity to wallow in self-absorbed mind-noise. Ingram sets out concisely the difference between concentration-based and insight (vipassana) meditation; he provides example practices; and most importantly he presents detailed maps of the states of mind we are likely to encounter, and the stages we must negotiate as we move through clearly-defined cycles of insight. Its easy to feel overawed, at first, by Ingram's assurance and ease in the higher levels of consciousness, but consistently he writes as a down-to-earth and compassionate guide, and to the practitioner willing to commit themselves this is a glittering gift of a book.In this new edition of the bestselling book, the author rearranges, revises and expands upon the original material, as well as adding new sections that bring further clarity to his ideas.

Book Pneumatology and the Christian Buddhist Dialogue

Download or read book Pneumatology and the Christian Buddhist Dialogue written by Amos Yong and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2012-07-26 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent thinking in Christian theology of religions has taken a “pneumatological turn” which asks how the doctrine of the Holy Spirit can contribute to the interreligious dialogue and to the emerging discourse of comparative theology. Pneumatology and the Christian-Buddhist Dialogue. Does the Spirit Blow through the Middle Way? tests the viability of this approach as applied to the Christian-Buddhist dialogue. Various Christian and Buddhist traditions are compared and contrasted within a pneumatological framework. Is the Holy Spirit to be found along the Buddha’s middle way? Some Christians say yes, while others demur. The thesis of this volume is that such a pneumatological perspective opens up possibilities for the deepening and transformation of Christian theology in the religiously plural world of the twenty-first century.

Book Conquering Constructivism

Download or read book Conquering Constructivism written by Pravin Bhatia and published by Educreation Publishing. This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about improving intelligence and learning in students from Class V to Post-graduation. It uses constructivism as the idea to improve learning and intelligence. Constructivism has existed on earth since the beginning of civilization. The Bhagavad Gita is based on questions and answers. Lord Krishna did not spoon-feed Arjuna with solutions. He could have stopped the war if he wanted, but he inspired Arjuna to think and then choose what he considered was right. Constructivism is about constructing new and better knowledge at every step of learning from what is available in textbooks. We cannot solve today's problems with yesterday's ideas and we cannot survive until we learn to use our minds creatively to create intelligent solutions to solve the problems of life. This should be the sole concern of education. India can become a superpower within a few years if it does. Twenty-five percent of India's population is in the classroom. This population is young and vibrant. It can be upgraded endlessly if education inspires students to construct new knowledge as per their objectives. Education did not use constructivism because it did not till now have a technique to use it, though our national documents wanted it to be used in the classroom. The technique is now available. It has already benefitted six million students. It improves learning, results, admissions and attendance. It also reduces learning and teaching time. I request teachers and parents to spread this divine technique. It will prove to be the revolution that this nation and the world so badly needs and deserves.

Book excerpt: “Most people will never find a great psychiatrist or a great Buddhist teacher, but Mark Epstein is both, and the wisdom he imparts in Advice Not Given is an act of generosity and compassion. The book is a tonic for the ailments of our time.”—Ann Patchett, New York Times bestselling author of Commonwealth Our ego, and its accompanying sense of nagging self-doubt as we work to be bigger, better, smarter, and more in control, is one affliction we all share. But while our ego is at once our biggest obstacle, it can also be our greatest hope. We can be at its mercy or we can learn to work with it. With great insight, and in a deeply personal style, renowned psychiatrist and author Dr. Mark Epstein offers a how-to guide that refuses a quick fix. In Advice Not Given, he reveals how Buddhism and Western psychotherapy, two traditions that developed in entirely different times and places, both identify the ego as the limiting factor in our well-being, and both come to the same conclusion: When we give the ego free rein, we suffer; but when it learns to let go, we are free.
