Book excerpt: The author of Desiring God reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Includes a study guide for individual and small-group use. Isn’t it true—we really don’t know someone until we understand what makes that person happy? And so it is with God! What does bring delight to the happiest Being in the universe? John Piper writes, that it’s only when we know what makes God glad that we’ll know the greatness of His glory. Therefore, we must comprehend “the pleasures of God.” Unlike so much of what is written today, this is not a book about us. It is about the One we were made for—God Himself. In this theological masterpiece—chosen by World Magazine as one of the 20th Century’s top 100 books, John Piper reveals the biblical evidence to help us see and savor what the pleasures of God show us about Him. Then we will be able to drink deeply—and satisfyingly—from the only well that offers living water. What followers of Jesus need now, more than anything else, is to know and love—behold and embrace—the great, glorious, sovereign, happy God of the Bible. “This is a unique and precious book that everybody should read more than once.” —J.I. PACKER, Regent College, Vancouver, British Columbia

Book The Bubble Universe Psychological Perspectives on Reality

Download or read book The Bubble Universe Psychological Perspectives on Reality written by Eugene Subbotsky and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-28 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the role that human subjective experience plays in the creation of reality and introduces a new concept, the Bubble Universe, to describe the universe as it looks from the subjective viewpoint of an individual. Drawing on a range of research, the author questions the extent to which the scientific study of the origins of life, consciousness and subjective experience is itself influenced by scientists’ subjective worlds. The author argues that in many respects the Bubble Universe differs from the universe as described by science and religion, and analyzes these differences. The fabric and structure of subjective reality is described, and various aspects of the Bubble Universe are examined, including science, religion, life, morality and history. The differences between the views from inside the subjective universe and from scientific, religious and sociocultural versions of the universe are outlined, and their significance for practical and theoretical problems are highlighted and illustrated with psychological experiments. This book will be of value to all scholars interested in how subjectivity influences research and appeal in particular to those working in developmental and theoretical psychology, consciousness, epistemology, phenomenology, and the philosophy of science and of the mind.

Book Bubbles Boxes and Individual Freedom

Download or read book Bubbles Boxes and Individual Freedom written by Clay Barham and published by Author House. This book was released on 2010-01-11 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the thinking and courage to do what needs doing to innovate and build prosperity. It is a book about the benefits of individual freedom. Schools teach children to color, write and print between the lines, observe the rules, wrap their minds in a bubble of disciplines to discourage living out of a community box. Children learn to behave as members of a managed herd, avoiding challenging that which is accepted and established by tradition. In art, however, unusual, deviant, almost outlaw behavior is admired. Artists existing outside the limits of the herd can even improve the herd. American innovators are artists causing prosperity from their thinking, acting, creating and inventive minds changing things for the better. Americans left the Old World limitations behind, where thinking and acting out of the box was discouraged, creating a New World almost 400 years ago. They proved individual freedom and creative elbowroom was the only source of prosperity, which explains American exceptionalism and what this book is all about.

Book Genesis 1 and the Creationism Debate

Download or read book Genesis 1 and the Creationism Debate written by Steven DiMattei and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern readers often assume that Genesis 1 depicts the creation of the earth and sky as we know it. Yet in an appeal for textual honesty, Steven DiMattei shows that such beliefs are more representative of modern views about this ancient text than the actual claims and beliefs of its author. Through a culturally contextualized and objective reading of the texts of Genesis 1 and 2, this study not only introduces readers to the textual data that convincingly demonstrate that Genesis' two creation accounts were penned by different authors who held contradictory views and beliefs about the origin of the world and of man and woman, but also establishes on textual grounds that what the author of Genesis 1 portrayed God creating was the world as its author and culture perceived and experienced it--not the objective world, but a subjective world, subject to the culturally conditioned views and beliefs of its author. In the end, this book clearly illustrates that the Bible's ancient texts do in fact represent the beliefs and worldviews of ancient peoples and cultures--not those of God, not those of later readers, and especially not those of modern-day Creationists.

Book The Thought of Creation

Download or read book The Thought of Creation written by Amite Neman and published by eBookIt.com. This book was released on 2014-08-20 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written after many years of research and comparison between the Torah, Kabbalah, and science books. I started on this subject following a personal crisis. I had the opportunity of seeing people and phenomena beyond those experienced in the daily life. "Go out of Egypt," I was told. The meaning of it was to step out of the material routine, and start dealing with spirituality. I tried to examine all new information and study on the topic of the creation of the world, and the connection between the Torah and science. I searched for proofs to this connection in the most thorough way possible. Was the world created by accident, or with an initial thought? What was the world created for? Is the Big Bang the beginning of creation, or was the world created much earlier? What is the universe made of? What maintains it? What will happen to the universe in the future? When was man created? Was man created from the monkey? Is there any kind of connection between all of humanity? How can you even research creation? Can you possibly prove the existence of God? How can you even reach Him? Who can provide answers to that? The answers to these questions are "hidden" in the Torah. The Torah is a secret language. The Hebrew word for "world", Olam, hints on the words: Hidden — Ha'alem, Ne'lam. Scientists study the world every day, and the results of their studies are surprisingly similar to the prophecies of the Torah. Jewish thinkers, world intellectuals, and tzadikim, are able to find a connection with the hidden worlds. They told us that there is a Creator to the world — God. The world was created with initial thought: The thought of creation. Man has a special and unique role in the world; to connect with the Creator by thinking of, and helping his fellow men, "Love your neighbor as yourself". The nation of Israel is a "bridge" that connects the material world with the Creator. Will we successfully climb the right bridge? Will man connect the world and humanity? Will the nation of Israel successfully carry out its task? "Love your neighbor as yourself"... this is how the soul is built. Let's connect to it... Good luck.

Book It s Only a Bubble

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dr. Andreas Zachariou
  • Publisher : Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency
  • Release : 2015-02
  • ISBN : 1631358650
  • Pages : 138 pages

Download or read book It s Only a Bubble written by Dr. Andreas Zachariou and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2015-02 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's Only a Bubble aims at the liberation of man from his conviction that he suffers because he is inherently sinful. The traditional religious idea that man fell from the state of perfection that he was made by God is replaced by the idea that man was made perfect in the “core field,” but he was simultaneously placed in the “dimensions” for gaining perfection also by free choice. Man moves up the dimensions by evolving, which is achieved by growing over obstacles. Obstacles are not punishments by God, but stimulation for growth. God does not interfere directly, because He wants man to act so that he can grow. Help is not offered as a result of faith or prayers but is embedded in the creation and is released automatically as one grows. The author walks the readers through the process of facing obstacles, including overwhelming events, like death. He also identifies the benefits of moving up the steps of spiritual evolution and describes how formal education can become meaningful, if it’s finally made an integral part of growth.

Book Understanding the Pentateuch as a Scripture

Download or read book Understanding the Pentateuch as a Scripture written by James W. Watts and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cutting-edge scholarly review of how the Pentateuch functions as a scripture, and how it came to be ritualized in this way. Understanding the Pentateuch as a Scripture is a unique account of the first five books of the Bible, describing how Jews and Christians ritualize the Pentateuch as a scripture by interpreting it, by performing its text and contents, and by venerating the physical scroll and book. Pentateuchal studies are known for intense focus on questions of how and when the first five books of the Bible were composed, edited, and canonized as scripture. Rather than such purely historical, literary, or theological approaches, Hebrew Bible scholar James W. Watts organizes this description of the Pentateuch from the perspectives of comparative scriptures and religious studies. He describes how the Pentateuch has been used in the centuries since it began to function as a scripture in the time of Ezra, and the origins of its ritualization before that time. The book: Analyzes the semantic contents of the Pentateuch as oral rhetoric that takes the form of stories followed by lists of laws and sanctions Gives equal space to its ritualization in the iconic and performative dimensions as to its semantic interpretation Fully integrates the cultural history of the Pentateuch and Bible with its influence on Jewish and Christian ritual, and in art, music, theatre, and film Understanding the Pentateuch as a Scripture is a groundbreaking work that highlights new research data and organizes the material to focus attention on the Pentateuch’s—and Bible’s— function as a scripture.

Book THE TRUTH OF THE ORIGIN OF THE UNIVERSE

Download or read book THE TRUTH OF THE ORIGIN OF THE UNIVERSE written by Dr. Sabrie Soloman and published by KHANNA PUBLISHING HOUSE. This book was released on 2024-08-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of undeserving credit given to the Big Bang and UFOs is a controversial one, with many people having strong opinions on the matter. While both the Big Bang theory and the existence of UFOs have been widely accepted, the author argues that they are given too much credit and recognition without sucient evidence to support their claims. The Big Bang theory is widely accepted as the most plausible explanation for the origin of the universe. Some critics argue that it is not the only possible explanation for the universe's origins. Some alternative theories, such as the steady-state theory or the oscillating universe theory, have been proposed as alternatives to the Big Bang theory. Similarly, the existence of UFOs is a topic that has been hotly debated for decades. While there have been countless reports of UFO sightings and encounters, there is a lack of concrete evidence to support the existence of extraterrestrial visitors. While the Big Bang theory and UFOs may be popular topics in popular culture, it is important to approach them with a critical eye and to consider the evidence before giving them undeserving credit.

Book Merlin s War

Download or read book Merlin s War written by Margaret Doner and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-04-17 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Merlin’s War: The Battle between the Family of Light and the Family of Dark examines the fact that the history of the human race has been manipulated by a being so clever that we have had no idea he exists. In fact, he has hidden behind Lucifer—but Lucifer is not our devil. Much of what has been told to the human race has been designed to keep the truth at bay. Whose purpose did it serve to keep the human race unaware of its own origins and ignoring huge pieces of obvious evidence because there is no logical explanation for it? It certainly did not serve the human race. Merlin is thought of by most humans as a simple embodiment of the wizard. Merlin’s War reveals that he is much more; he is a powerful Creator God who is responsible for creating the human template and seeding life on the Earth. Moreover, Dracula is thought of as a fictional vampire, when he is, in fact, the being we call Satan, responsible for creating war and chaos on Earth and in other galaxies. There are two points of view to this story, and in order to be fair author Margaret Doner has agreed to tell both sides. Merlin’s War posits that it is time for the playing field to be evened out. The Family of Dark has been in control for too long; it’s time for the Family of Light to move beyond the fear that has kept them enslaved.
