Book Measurement of Noise Emitted by Accelerating Road Vehicles

Download or read book Measurement of Noise Emitted by Accelerating Road Vehicles written by Light Vehicle Exterior Sound Level Standards Committee and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Standard is equivalent to ISO 362-1:2015 and specifies an engineering method for measuring the noise emitted by road vehicles of categories M and N under typical urban traffic conditions. It excludes vehicles of category L1, L2, L3, L4, and L5.The specifications are intended to reproduce the level of noise generated by the principal noise sources during normal driving in urban traffic. The method is designed to meet the requirements of simplicity as far as they are consistent with reproducibility of results under the operating conditions of the vehicle. The test method requires an acoustical environment that is obtained only in an extensive open space. Such conditions are usually provided for during: Measurements of vehicles for regulatory certification and/or type approval. Measurements at the manufacturing stage. Measurements at official testing stations. SAE J2805 is the technical mirror of ISO 362-1. SAE J2805 and ISO 362-1 serve to measure in a performance-based and technology-neutral manner the 90% percentile exterior sound emission of road vehicles. The test procedure is based on extensive statistical investigations of vehicle operation in real traffic and is therefore well correlated to actual in-use sound emissions. The 2020 revision of SAE J2805 incorporates updates reflecting practical experience and clarifications to improve the understanding of users regarding the intent of the standard.

Book Measurement of Noise Emitted By Accelerating Highway Vehicles

Download or read book Measurement of Noise Emitted By Accelerating Highway Vehicles written by Light Vehicle Exterior Sound Level Standards Committee and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Standard is equivalent to ISO Standard 362-1997 except for the differences detailed in Appendix A, and includes the modifications adopted by WP29 in ECE R51 Revision 1 and EEC 92/97 and EEC 96/20.This document specifies an engineering method for measuring the noise emitted by accelerating highway vehicles of all types (except motorcycles) in intermediate gears with full utilization of the available engine power. The method is designed to meet the requirements of simplicity and reproducibility of results under realistic vehicle operating conditions.Measurements relate to operating conditions of the vehicle which give the highest noise level consistent with urban driving and which lead to reproducible noise emissions. Therefore, an acceleration test at full throttle from a stated engine or vehicle speed is specified. The test method calls for an acoustical environment which can only be obtained in an extensive open space. Such conditions can usually be provided for: a. measurements at the manufacturing stage and b. measurements at official testing stations.Measurements must be carried out in an acoustical environment which fulfill the requirements stated in this document. It should be noted that spot checking of vehicles chosen at random can rarely be made in an ideal acoustical environment. If measurements have to be carried out on the road in an acoustical environment which does not fulfill the requirements stated in this document, it should be recognized that the results obtained may deviate appreciably from the results obtained using the specified conditions. The results obtained by this method give an objective measure of the noise emitted under the prescribed conditions of test. However, it is necessary to consider the fact that the subjective appraisal of the annoyance of different classes of motor vehicles is not simply related to the indications of a sound level meter. The motorcycles are covered in other SAE documents that prescribe an operating mode that is more representative of actual use.

Book Vehicle Refinement

Download or read book Vehicle Refinement written by Matthew Harrison and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High standards of NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) performance are expected by consumers of all modern cars. Refinement is one of the main engineering and design attributes to be addressed in the course of developing new vehicle models and vehicle components. Written for students and engineering practitioners, this is the first book to address automotive NVH. It will help readers to understand and develop quieter, more comfortable cars. With chapters on the fundamentals of acoustics and detailed coverage of practical engineering solutions for noise control issues it is suitable for students of automotive engineering and engineers who haven't been trained in acoustics, and will be an important reference for practicing engineers in the motor industry.

Book Measurement of Minimum Noise Emitted by Road Vehicles

Download or read book Measurement of Minimum Noise Emitted by Road Vehicles written by Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Committee and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Standard is derived from SAE J2805 and specifies an engineering method for measuring the sound emitted by M and N category road vehicles at standstill and low speed operating conditions.. The specifications reproduce the level of sound which is generated by the principal vehicle sound sources consistent with stationary and low speed vehicle operating conditions relevant for pedestrian safety. The method is designed to meet the requirements of simplicity as far as they are consistent with reproducibility of results under the operating conditions of the vehicle. The test method requires an acoustic environment which is only obtained in an extensive open space or in special designed indoor facilities replicating the conditions of an extensive open space. Such conditions usually exist during: Measurements of vehicles for regulatory certification. Measurements at the manufacturing stage. Measurements at official testing stations. The results obtained by this method give an objective measure of the sound emitted under the specified conditions of test. It is necessary to consider the fact that the subjective appraisal of the annoyance, perceptibility, and/or detectability of different motor vehicles or classes of motor vehicles due to their sound emission are not simply related to the indications of a sound measurement system. As annoyance, perceptibility, and/or detectability are strongly related to personal human perception, physiological human condition, culture, and environmental conditions, there are large variations and therefore these terms are not useful as parameters to describe a specific vehicle condition.Spot checks of vehicles chosen at random rarely occur in an ideal acoustic environment. If measurements are carried out on the road in an acoustic environment which does not fulfill the requirements stated in this SAE Standard, the results obtained may deviate appreciably from the results obtained using the specified conditions. In addition, this standard provides an engineering method to assess the performance of external sound generation systems intended for the purpose of providing acoustic information to pedestrians on a vehicle's operating condition. This information is reported as objective criteria related to the external sound generation system's sound pressure level, frequency content, and changes in sound pressure level and frequency content as a function of vehicle speed. As such, these measures can provide pedestrians with information on the location, speed, direction of travel, acceleration, and deceleration behavior of a vehicle. Annex A contains background information relevant in the development of this SAE Standard. Updated to correct equations in Table 2 as well as the correct modifier in Appendix A's Item #5.
