Book The Nightmare Collection

Download or read book The Nightmare Collection written by Eva Pohler and published by Green Press/Eva Pohler. This book was released on 2017-08-22 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a collection of stand-alone dark thriller romances with a common theme: narrators draw their listeners in to their haunting tales, and these stories have a shocking, life-changing connection to the listeners. "The story, The Mystery Box, that gives this set its name, is worth the price (and much more) all by itself. It's very hard to classify. Sometimes it's a mystery, sometimes predictable. It's both a horror story and a love story. It will leave you outraged sometimes, crying at others. It will set your nerves on edge, and tug (hard) at your heartstrings. Reading it is like being on a very strange rollercoaster. It will run your emotions from one end to another. In several places, it's hard to read without shuddering, shivering, cheering, rejoicing, and crying. The characters are so well written, the plot so intricate, and yet so simple, that it involves you fully in the story without being aware of it. You start in a simple life, with a bored housewife. By the end, if you aren't crying, or at least have tears in your eyes, you are a stronger person than I. It's one of the best stories I've read in my 74 years on this earth."--Allyn, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★ "I would have loved to have three separate books instead of a box set. Each one is a gem by itself; three absolutely different themes, each with special ethos. Imagine what will happen if you can travel faster than light! How about becoming an archaeologist! Each plot has been well conceived, properly laid out in a free flowing manner. It is difficult make a choice between the three divergent books. Only choice is to vote them all in!"--venky. Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★ "I just finished The Mystery Box Set and all I have to say is be ready for three amazing stories that will keep you reading well into the early morning hours. Many nights I had to set down my Kindle to get some sort of sleep."--Rachel R. ★★★★★ "I have only read The Mystery Box and Mystery Man, but although the "Box" is very, very good, the "Man" is excellent. I did not want it to end. Fabulous writing! Kudos to Eva Pohler, who has not disappointed thus far."--Amy C. ★★★★★ "After reading this box set, I am now a new fan of Eva Pohler! Three totally different mysteries that grabbed me from the first page and had me reading until I was finished. Each one as good as the others. I can't wait to read more of her books!"--Jennie Ersari ★★★★★ "I loved this box set. All 3 books were absolutely gripping. The story lines were totally different, but each so very good. So thought provoking, with surprise twist and turns. I read all 3 books in just a few days, as I couldn't put the kindle down."--Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★ Grab your copy to begin these chilling adventures today! Related Authors: Julie Clark, M.M. Eliza longs to know how her mother, an early missionary to the Nez Perce Indians, dealt with the challenges of life with a sometimes difficult husband and with her daughter's captivity. When Eliza is finally given her mother's diary, she is stunned to find that her own memories are not necessarily the whole story of what happened. Can she lay the dark past to rest and move on? Or will her childhood memories always hold her hostage? • Author : Sarah B. Towle
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2024-06-18

Download or read book Crossing the Line written by Sarah B. Towle and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-06-18 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was family separation and “kids in cages” that drove Sarah Towle to the U.S. southern border. On discovering the many-headed hydra that is the U.S. immigration system—and the heroic determination of those caught under its knee—she could never look away again. Crossing the Line: Finding America in the Borderlands charts Sarah’s journey from outrage to activism to abolition as she exposes, layer by “broken” layer, the global deterrence to detention to deportation complex that is failing everyone—save the profiteers and demagogues who benefit from it. Deftly weaving together oral storytelling, history, and memoir, Sarah illustrates how the U.S. has led the retreat from post-WWII commitments to protecting human rights. Yet within the web of normalized cruelty, she finds hope and inspiration in the extraordinary acts of ordinary people who prove, every day, there is a better way. By amplifying their voices and celebrating their efforts, Sarah reveals that we can welcome with dignity those most in need of safety and compassion. In unmasking the real root causes of the so-called “crisis” in human migration, she urges us to act before we travel much farther down our current course—one which history will not soon forgive, or forget.

Book A Place to Call Home

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mary Ellen Stelling
  • Publisher : Dog Ear Publishing
  • Release : 2010
  • ISBN : 1608448002
  • Pages : 354 pages

Download or read book A Place to Call Home written by Mary Ellen Stelling and published by Dog Ear Publishing. This book was released on 2010 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Lenore de Quincy's father gives her the key to a bank box containing a fortune in cash and then dies, she realizes she is no longer under constraints to remain unhappily married. She abandons her husband, taking her daughter, Angela, with her from a provincial town in western Pennsylvania to the bright lights of Manhattan. A PLACE TO CALL HOME is a novel inspired by true stories set against the First World War, The Roaring Twenties, and the Great Depression. It centers around two well-to-do families joined by an arranged marriage. The action is seen through Angela's eyes as she struggles with the effects on her life of her parents' divorce, a thing viewed in the 1920's as scandalous and tragic. Her travels between New York City and her father's nurturing family in a coal-belt town near Pittsburgh provide humorous and nostalgic anecdotes about growing up in the America of that era. Mary Ellen Stelling was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1915 and lived in New York, Florida, North Carolina and Texas before settling in 1946 in Atlanta. For five years a feature columnist on the Women's Page of the Atlanta CONSTITUTION, she was a member of the Georgia Poetry Society and the Poetry Society of Texas. During the 1950's and 1960's, her work appeared in poetry journals in almost every state of the Union, and most newspapers of the time which featured verse published her poems. She was the wife of a successful retail executive and a dedicated mother who did all the usual time-consuming things to support her son's activities. Behind the scenes she worked as time allowed to create a richly humorous prose document portraying her childhood experiences. Those sketches written in the 1950's totaling about a hundred pages were the seeds which inspired this book. Mrs. Stelling passed away at the age of 82 in 1998. Peter James Stelling was born in Charlotte, NC, in 1943 and has spent most of his life in Atlanta. A graduate of Washington and Lee University and Grady College of the University of Georgia, he spent four years in advertising in New York before returning home to work for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and for two different firms specializing in Group Incentive Sales Travel and Meeting Planning. One of his most memorable work experiences was serving as road manager for a traveling symphony orchestra during the early years of Robert Shaw's tenure as their Music Director. Now a contentedly retired father of two and grandfather of four, he is grateful for having had the luxury of time to complete this unique family document. He remains an active supporter of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Opera, Trinity Presbyterian Church, and serves on the Board of Governors of the Vinings Club in suburban Atlanta.
