Book Brothers from Another Mother

Download or read book Brothers from Another Mother written by K. B. Pellegrino and published by LifeRich Publishing. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Years ago, seven boys connected as children at their local boys club. The strength of their bond lasts through adulthood—and now has serious, possibly murderous, implications. Beautiful women are being slaughtered in West Side, Massachusetts. Major Crimes Unit Captain Rudy Beauregard and his team are on the case and hungry for quick justice. The dead women all have two things in common: beauty and a professional relationship with the charming psychotherapist Candido Rodriguez. He’s the prime suspect and also one of the seven boys, all grown up. Defense Attorney Norberto Cull walks a fine line in representing Rodriguez, as he is also one of the seven, certainly a conflict of interest. Rodriguez seems to be the nexus of all these murders, but Beauregard begins to wonder if his childhood friends are also somehow involved. To learn the truth, he’ll have to investigate West Side’s underbelly, including its exotic dancing scene, political activism, and even Irish music. Seven boys formed a bond long ago, but now, with blood in the air, will they turn on each other or gang up on Beauregard as he seeks to uncover the truth?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The arrival of English settlers in the American Southeast in 1670 brought the British and the Native Americans into contact both with foreign peoples and with unfamiliar gender systems. In a region in which the balance of power between multiple players remained uncertain for many decades, British and Native leaders turned to concepts of gender and family to create new diplomatic norms to govern interactions as they sought to construct and maintain working relationships. In Brothers Born of One Mother, Michelle LeMaster addresses the question of how differing cultural attitudes toward gender influenced Anglo-Indian relations in the colonial Southeast. As one of the most fundamental aspects of culture, gender had significant implications for military and diplomatic relations. Understood differently by each side, notions of kinship and proper masculine and feminine behavior wielded during negotiations had the power to either strengthen or disrupt alliances. The collision of different cultural expectations of masculine behavior and men's relationships to and responsibilities for women and children became significant areas of discussion and contention. Native American and British leaders frequently discussed issues of manhood (especially in the context of warfare), the treatment of women and children, and intermarriage. Women themselves could either enhance or upset relations through their active participation in diplomacy, war, and trade. Leaders invoked gendered metaphors and fictive kinship relations in their discussions, and by evaluating their rhetoric, Brothers Born of One Mother investigates the intercultural conversations about gender that shaped Anglo-Indian diplomacy. LeMaster's study contributes importantly to historians’ understanding of the role of cultural differences in intergroup contact and investigates how gender became part of the ideology of European conquest in North America, providing a unique window into the process of colonization in America.

This book was released on 2017-05-22 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. There are three things in life – that if they are less than 100 percent – don’t exist. Namely trust, love, and truth. Remember that 99.99 percent of the truth is still a lie, because the truth only exists if it’s 100 percent true. The easiest part of living is to die in the grace of God, and as long as you have Him, being alone is impossible.

Download or read book The Post Racial Mystique written by Catherine Squires and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2014-04-04 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite claims from pundits and politicians that we now live in a post-racial America, people seem to keep finding ways to talk about race—from celebrations of the inauguration of the first Black president to resurgent debates about police profiling, race and racism remain salient features of our world. When faced with fervent anti-immigration sentiments, record incarceration rates of Blacks and Latinos, and deepening socio-economic disparities, a new question has erupted in the last decade: What does being post-racial mean? The Post-Racial Mystique explores how a variety of media—the news, network television, and online, independent media—debate, define and deploy the term “post-racial” in their representations of American politics and society. Using examples from both mainstream and niche media—from prime-time television series to specialty Christian media and audience interactions on social media—Catherine Squires draws upon a variety of disciplines including communication studies, sociology, political science, and cultural studies in order to understand emergent strategies for framing post-racial America. She reveals the ways in which media texts cast U.S. history, re-imagine interpersonal relationships, employ statistics, and inventively redeploy other identity categories in a quest to formulate different ways of responding to race.

Book I Am the Aleph Tav

  • Author : Samuel Koiki
  • Publisher : WestBow Press
  • Release : 2019-01-21
  • ISBN : 1973627442
  • Pages : 571 pages

Download or read book I Am the Aleph Tav written by Samuel Koiki and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people will be shocked to know that Jesus appears ten times (1000%) more in the Old Testament than he does in the New Testament. In fact Jesus the Aleph-Tav appears 9612 times (uninterpreted) in the Old Testament but only 983 times in the New Testament. The Aleph-Tav is comprised of the first and last characters of the Hebrew language, just as the alpha and the omega are the first and last characters of the Greek language. The Aleph-Tav is also the Hebrew character symbol believed to be the signature of Christ found only in the Hebrew Bible, represented by the head of a bull and the sign of a cross. Both character symbols clearly point us to Christ, the Lamb of God who died for humanity on the cross of Calvary. I AM the Aleph-Tav unveils the presence of Jesus in the Old Testament, first by taking a deep dive into the mystery of the Aleph-Tav. Although this symbol appears almost ten thousand times in the Old Testament, it was never interpreted into any other language, and author Samuel Koiki shows how there are parallels between the Old Testament and the statements Jesus made to John in the book of Revelation, where Jesus proclaimed that he was the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the endor, in a different way, the Aleph-Tav. Was Jesus telling John that he was there all along when the universe was created in Genesis? Perhaps he was telling John that he indeed is the Creator. Was he the one who split the Red Sea, as told in Exodus? Was he the Passover lamb in Leviticus, the high priest in Numbers, the rock that brought forth water in Deuteronomy, or the commander of the Lords army in Judges? Was he telling John that he is on every page of the Old Testament, all the way to Malachi, where he is the Son of righteousness who brings healing? This book unlike any other will bless and enrich you abundantly . Sit back and embark on this incredible journey with me.

Book Like the Prodigal Son I Returned

Download or read book Like the Prodigal Son I Returned written by Steven "Red" Salas and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-02-08 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steven (Red) Salas was born into a traditional Catholic family in Racine, Wisconsin. His life seemed to be a contradiction from the very beginning. It was not a loving Catholic home, instead his parents divorced when he was quite young (six years old), and he and his brother lived with his physically and verbally abusive mother. Even though he went to weekly church services, he actually felt a deeper connection to the Christian programming found on TV. As Red grew into adolescence, he quickly found himself in trouble with the law on multiple occasions and forsaking his faith. He didn't start hanging out with the wrong crowd; instead, he was the wrong crowd. His mother eventually gave up and sent him to live with his father, but the courts finally ordered Red to live with a foster family, hoping that this would get him back on the straight and narrow. He returned back to his wild ways when he was allowed to go home to his father. When the time came that Red became a young father himself, he knew he had to do something different. So he defied the odds and joined the US Army. The military proved to be a positive change that Red needed. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, learned respect, and was achieving success in his military job. Until one day, an army work-related accident happened; he suffered a traumatic brain injury. The side effects began to take over, but being a "strong" man, he pushed things aside. He got out of the army and started a new life with his family in San Antonio, Texas. The side effects of his TBI by then had helped to make it difficult to hold down a job, his first marriage fell apart, and his faith seemed to be drained. Red was left raising three daughters by himself and still seeking the unconditional love from a woman that had always been a void in his life. Time passes and wounds heal. He found himself praying to G-d but still not fully allowing him to work in his life. Red met his second wife, the love of his life. But between the process of climbing the ranks and finally achieving the rank of vice president of the notorious San Antonio chapter of the Bandidos MC (one of the most well-known and dangerous outlaw 1%er motorcycle clubs in the world) and the continued side effects of his TBI, their marriage fell apart. Red hit rock bottom. The pain from the TBI became too much and he checked himself into the VA hospital. Finally, he got the medical help that he needed for so many years. He reconciled his marriage and retired from the Bandidos MC after ten years of loyalty. Follow the story of a young Catholic boy turned born-again Christian as he defies his faith, gets mixed up with the law, and becomes a member of the Infamous Bandidos MC. But like the Prodigal Son, he returns home because of G-d's mercy and Red's faith in Jesus Christ.

Book excerpt: "A brilliant, powerful elegy from a living brother to a lost one, yet pulsing with rhythm, and beating with life." --Marlon James "Highly recommend Brother by David Chariandy--concise and intense, elegiac short novel of devastation and hope." --Joyce Carol Oates, via Twitter WINNER--Toronto Book Award WINNER--Rogers' Writers' Trust Fiction Prize WINNER--Ethel Wilson Prize for Fiction In luminous, incisive prose, a startling new literary talent explores masculinity, race, and sexuality against a backdrop of simmering violence during the summer of 1991. One sweltering summer in the Park, a housing complex outside of Toronto, Michael and Francis are coming of age and learning to stomach the careless prejudices and low expectations that confront them as young men of black and brown ancestry. While their Trinidadian single mother works double, sometimes triple shifts so her boys might fulfill the elusive promise of their adopted home, Francis helps the days pass by inventing games and challenges, bringing Michael to his crew's barbershop hangout, and leading escapes into the cool air of the Rouge Valley, a scar of green wilderness where they are free to imagine better lives for themselves. Propelled by the beats and styles of hip hop, Francis dreams of a future in music. Michael's dreams are of Aisha, the smartest girl in their high school whose own eyes are firmly set on a life elsewhere. But the bright hopes of all three are violently, irrevocably thwarted by a tragic shooting, and the police crackdown and suffocating suspicion that follow. Honest and insightful in its portrayal of kinship, community, and lives cut short, David Chariandy's Brother is an emotional tour de force that marks the arrival of a stunning new literary voice.
