Book Broad based BEE

Download or read book Broad based BEE written by Vuyo Jack and published by FrontRunner. This book was released on 2007 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this guidebook, Vuyo Jack combines legislative summary, accounting detail and historical context. He analyzes South Africa's numerous Codes of Good Practice (and their subsidiary statements) enacted to promote black business empowerment and explains them in considerable detail. He provides context for understanding the Black Economic Empowerment codes and sample scorecards for various aspects of compliance. Yet this straightforward, accounting-manual treatment of the codes is frequently interrupted by his personal opinions, judgments or remembrances. The author becomes an advocate for a viewpoint rather than a dispassionate reporter on the contents of the code. Readers who are accustomed to more hands-off reporting may wonder whether Jack's advocacy compromises or shades his approach to the bare facts. Nevertheless, getAbstract recommends his thorough explanation to companies working in South Africa.

Book Local Content and Sustainable Development in Global Energy Markets

This book was released on 2021-03-04 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Local Content and Sustainable Development in Global Energy Markets analyses the topical and contentious issue of the critical intersections between local content requirements (LCRs) and the implementation of sustainable development treaties in global energy markets including Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America, South America, Australasia and the Middle East While LCRs generally aim to boost domestic value creation and economic growth, inappropriately designed LCRs could produce negative social, human rights and environmental outcomes, and a misalignment of a country's fiscal policies and global sustainable development goals. These unintended outcomes may ultimately serve as disincentive to foreign participation in a country's energy market. This book outlines the guiding principles of a sustainable and rights-based approach – focusing on transparency, accountability, gender justice and other human rights issues – to the design, application and implementation of LCRs in global energy markets to avoid misalignments.

Book The Brave Code

Download or read book The Brave Code written by Musa Kalenga and published by Jonathan Ball Publishers. This book was released on 2023-12-15 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Africa is rich with potential and renowned for its innovation. However, with the long shadow of the Berlin Conference of 1884 (also known as the Congo Conference) ever present, an exponential growth trajectory, using modern leadership and management practice, needs to be charted for Africa to catch up with the developed world. Musa Kalenga – technologist, marketer, brand communicator, entrepreneur, author of Ladders & Trampolines and Group CEO and shareholder of Brave Group – believes this is only possible using the springboard combination of creativity and technology. The Brave Code explores Musa's journey with Brave Group to pioneer a shared-value creative enterprise as a blueprint for other organisations in Africa. Exploring tangible ways to benefit every member of its ecosystem, Brave Group upends traditional advertising models, challenges assumptions around equity, and pushes back at commonly-accepted but outdated client and agency practices. Seeking to blaze a new trail and aiming to create a replicable model that has relevance beyond the advertising and marketing sector, Musa is spurred on by what Singularity University called 'a massive transformative purpose', and calls others to join him on the journey. Weaving together anecdotal examples and personal musings with a working theory of change, The Brave Code is an encouragement to the young entrepreneurs, professionals and trailblazers in Africa to play a critical part in unlocking the immense value that the continent has to offer.

Book Black Economic Empowerment

Download or read book Black Economic Empowerment written by Phinda Mzwakhe Madi and published by eBook Partnership. This book was released on 2015-11-30 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty years after the introduction of BEE, Phinda Madi believes it's time to reflect on its success. Clear trends can now be discerned and there are numerous lessons to be learned. He contends there is an unfortunate narrative that is gaining traction in South Africa generally and in the corporate world in particular, that BEE has been nothing but a "e;smoke-and-mirrors"e; initiative towards oligarchy, hence the chosen title: BEE 20 years later - The Baby and The Bathwater. As the title suggests, there is a tendency to want to 'throw the baby out with the bathwater'. His book argues that we need to make a clear distinction between the bouncing baby and the (at times) dirty bathwater. This book puts forward a very frank, clinical and balanced argument on how this distinction needs to be made, as well as why and how we should ensure the baby both survives and thrives going forward, whilst getting rid of the ugly side of BEE (the dirty bathwater). But more importantly, he examines how to restore the credibility of this process, so it truly and genuinely moves away from just being seen as the enrichment of the few and lives up to its true promise: The economic empowerment of the many. This is the book that will ignite the change in BEE in South Africa!
