Book The Solotype Catalog of 4 147 Display Typefaces

Download or read book The Solotype Catalog of 4 147 Display Typefaces written by Dan X. Solo and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2014-05-05 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of many books on typography, Dan X. Solo was also the proprietor of his own typography shop in Oakland, California — an establishment dedicated to unusual typography and special effects. This comprehensive catalog offers graphic designers a dazzling selection of over 4,000 typefaces and optical effects available from Solotype Typographers. Here, in Solo's words, is "a great cast of characters" — the alphabet — abetted by a cornucopia of typographical ideas and an endless resource of letters, words, phrases, slogans, logos, humorous comments, headlines, and graphic symbols. Individual sections of the book display a rich variety of typefaces in categories such as Condensed, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Rustic, Thick-and-tin, Calligraphic, Uncials, Latins, and Blackletter. Samples are imaginatively presented. "Stagecoach," for example, is printed in Fargo typeface, evoking dusty trails, rawhide, and ten-gallon hats, while "Sizzling summer savings" appears appropriately in the flamboyant Firebug typeface. All typefaces are indexed for quick and easy reference. As entertaining as it is practical and useful, this impressive treasury of versatile typefaces and optical effects will be indispensable to busy commercial artists as an inexhaustible source of typographic ideas and a "swipe file" of words, phrases, and letters for use in graphic art projects.

Book Trinit Lexicon

Download or read book Trinit Lexicon written by Bram de Does and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1991 publishers Uitgeverij De Buitenkant and Spectatorpers published a small book entitled "Romanée en Trinité: Historisch origineel en systematisch slordig". The author set the Dutch text by hand, using Jan van Krimpen's Romanée, and printed 500 copies on a Victoria platen press. Drukkerij Jan de Jong (Uitgeverij De Buitenkant's in-house press) printed the type specimen section in offset. By 1991 the Autologic phototypesetter had already been phased out, Enschedé having switched to digital typesetting. Fortunately the author was able to use the phototypeset positives for the 1982 type specimen. Enschedé had given Peter Matthias Noordzij the job of digitizing Trinité and in the second half of Romanée en Trinité the author was able to give a foretaste of the results. This book contains the full text of Romanée en Trinité, but it was technically impossible to include the hand-set specimen.

Book After Midnight

    Book Details:
  • Author : Irmgard Keun
  • Publisher : Melville House
  • Release : 2011-05-31
  • ISBN : 1935554417
  • Pages : 178 pages

Download or read book After Midnight written by Irmgard Keun and published by Melville House. This book was released on 2011-05-31 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sanna and her ravishing friend Gerti would rather speak of love than politics, but in 1930s Frankfurt, politics cannot be escaped--even in the lady's bathroom. Crossing town one evening to meet up with Gerti's Jewish lover, a blockade cuts off the girls' path--it is the Fürher in a motorcade procession, and the crowd goes mad striving to catch a glimpse of Hitler's raised "empty hand." Then the parade is over, and in the long hours after midnight Sanna and Gerti will face betrayal, death, and the heartbreaking reality of being young in an era devoid of innocence or romance. In 1937, German author Irmgard Keun had only recently fled Nazi Germany with her lover Joseph Roth when she wrote this slim, exquisite, and devastating book. It captures the unbearable tension, contradictions, and hysteria of pre-war Germany like no other novel. Yet even as it exposes human folly, the book exudes a hopeful humanism. It is full of humor and light, even as it describes the first moments of a nightmare. After Midnight is a masterpiece that deserves to be read and remembered anew.
