This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Brief Thoughts and Meditations on Some Passages in Holy Scripture BY the mouth of thy servant, Lord, Thou hast said this; and everything around us and within us, sooner or later, attests the truth of this saying; attests the fact that Thou art a God of judgment, making men to reap as they have planted, and to eat the fruit of what they themselves have sown. None but the wilfully blind can refuse to trace the footsteps of a divine Avenger who walks the world. There needs no judgment day to make this plain for every day after its own fashion, and sometimes after a very notable fashion, has been in some sort such a judgment day. Our God has not said in vain, Thy Sin shall find thee out.' About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Passage Meditation

Download or read book Passage Meditation written by Eknath Easwaran and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2010-09 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pioneered by spiritual master Eknath Easwaran, passage meditation consists of memorizing an inspirational spiritual passage and then sending it deep into consciousness through slow, sustained attention. It keeps meditation fresh and varied because readers can select the passages - from one tradition or many - that embody their chosen ideals. Many readers also enjoy the passages for their poetic and intellectual appeal. This form of meditation offers all the richness and depth of traditional wisdom, together with a practical method for bringing that wisdom into daily life. The book situates passage meditation as part of Easwaran's eight-point program that, based on traditional spiritual practices but adjusted for modern lifestyles, shows readers how to stay calm and focused at work and home. This edition includes a new preface of previously unpublished material by Easwaran and an epilogue that explains the story behind the book and invites new readers to join the author on this adventure in the ''world within.''

Book What Do We Do With the Bible

Download or read book What Do We Do With the Bible written by Richard Rohr and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2019-08-15 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do we do with the Bible? Does an ancient, sometimes violent and contradictory text that has been used to justify violence, racism, misogyny, homophobia and more, really have anything to teach us today? In this small but powerful book, Richard Rohr explores how we can read the bible in a contemplative and intelligent way. Focusing on Jesus' own method of using the Hebrew Scriptures, he shows us a way of interpreting the Bible that follows God's mercy, inclusion and compassionate justice, and creates a foundation for a hopeful vision from the beginning to the end of time. Warm and accessible, What Do We Do With the Bible? will give you a deeper, more genuine understanding of the Bible and transform your experience of Scripture - whether you are reading the Bible for the first time or returning to it over and over.

Download or read book Short and Sweet written by LeeAnn Mott and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-11-13 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians spend a lifetime trying to figure out God's will for their lives: What career should I choose? Where should I live? Whom should I marry? God has told us his will for our lives: to be "conformed to the image of His Son" (Romans 8:29). Paul explains: We are to put off the old self and put on the new self "created to be like God in true righteous and holiness" (Ephesians 4:24). We cannot become more Christ-like in our own strength, though. Paul says the key is a renewed mind: "to be made new in the attitudes of your minds" (Ephesians 4:23). We exchange our patterns of thinking with God's Word. We fill our mind with Scripture, and slowly, we are transformed. Learning to think like Jesus helps us to act like Jesus. This is where Bible memorization comes in. We need to get God's Word into our heads and into our hearts. When I feel resentful and unforgiving toward my friend who betrayed me and am tempted to end our relationship, I replace my thoughts and hurt feelings with Hebrews 13:1: "Keep on loving each other as brothers." When I start to worry about my upcoming surgery or my children's college fund, I remind myself, "We live by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7). God's Word is living, active, and powerful. Having these verses in my mind and heart helps me to choose new Christ-like behavior. Here are fifty-two short Bible verses: Memorize one verse a week. Meditate on it daily. By the end of the year, you will see the transformative power of God's Word in renewing your mind and changing your behavior. As you are increasingly conformed to the image of Jesus, you will have the privilege of reflecting his love to the world.
