Book Routledge Handbook of Collaboration in Construction

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Collaboration in Construction written by Sina Moradi and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This innovative Handbook aims to look at the logic, various dimensions, and implications of collaboration in construction. It opens with a conceptualization of collaboration and its accompanying terms (i.e., cooperation and coordination) and continues with chapters in Part I which discuss the theoretical grounds of collaboration between individuals and organizations from the viewpoints of an impressive variety of relevant disciplines including organizational science; anthropology; law; economics; design; and production. This is followed by discussions of the essence and value of collaboration in construction in Part II through explaining the role of collaborative project delivery methods and their benefits in advancing collaboration, describing the competency profile of project managers for collaborative construction, explaining key drivers and barriers of collaboration in construction, and explaining practices as well as challenges of measuring collaboration in construction. Then, in Part III, case projects are employed to explain the benefits of collaboration in different levels of team, project, and business, to discuss the role and impact of collaboration on site and bridging the divide between construction and facility management, to discuss the role of digitalization in facilitating and advancing collaboration, to explain collaboration in decision making, to present examples of collaborative visual management, and to outline the implications of stakeholders' early involvement and collaboration for project success. Finally, consideration is given to the future of collaboration in construction to conclude the book. This Handbook is key reading for a broad ranging audience within the fields of construction, project, infrastructure and engineering management, organisational science, economics, and business management.

Book Across the Great Divide

    Book Details:
  • Author : Rhys Davies
  • Publisher : Cambridge Scholars Publishing
  • Release : 2014-10-21
  • ISBN : 144387020X
  • Pages : 259 pages

Download or read book Across the Great Divide written by Rhys Davies and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-21 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There’s nothing pure about modernism. For all the later critical emphasis upon “medium specificity”, modernist artists in their own times revel in the exchange of motifs and tropes from one kind of art to another; they revel in staging events where different media play crucial roles alongside each other, where different media interfere with each other, to spark new and surprising experiences for their audiences. This intermediality and multi-media activity is the subject of this important collection of essays. The authoritative contributions cover the full historical span of modernism, from its emergence in the early twentieth century to its after-shocks in the 1960s. Studies include Futurism’s struggle to create an art of noise for the modern age; the radical experiments with poetry; painting and ballet staged in Paris in the early 1920s; the relationship of poetry to painting in the work of a neglected Catalan artist in the 1930s; the importance of architecture to new conceptions of performance in 1960s “Happenings”; and the complex exchange between film, music and sadomasochism that characterises Andy Warhol's “Exploding Plastic Inevitable”.

Book Cinema Suffering and Psychoanalysis

Download or read book Cinema Suffering and Psychoanalysis written by Laura Stephenson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2023-12-14 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cinema, Suffering and Psychoanalysis explores psychological disorder as common to the human condition using a unique three-angled approach: psychoanalysis recognises the inherent suffering encountered by each subject due to developmental phases; psychology applies specific categorisation to how this suffering manifests; cinema depicts suffering through a combination of video and aural elements. Functioning as a culturally reflexive medium, the six feature films analysed, including Black Swan (2010) and The Machinist (2004), represent some of the most common psychological disorders and lived experiences of the contemporary era. This book enters unchartered terrain in cinema scholarship by combining clinical psychology's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Five (DSM-V) to organise and diagnose each character, and psychoanalysis to track the origin, mechanism and affect of the psychological disorder within the narrative trajectory of each film. Lacan's theories on the infantile mirror phase, the Imaginary, and the Symbolic, Žižek's theories on the Real, the big Other and the Event, and Kristeva's theories on abjection and melancholia work in combination with the DSM's classification of symptoms to interpret six contemporary pieces of cinema. By taking into consideration that origin, mechanism, affect and symptomatology are part of an interconnected group, this book explores psychological disorder as part of the human condition, something which contributes to and informs personal identity. More specifically, this research refutes the notion that psychological disorder and psychological health exist as a binary, instead recognising that what has traditionally been pathologised, may instead be viewed as variations on human identity.

Book excerpt: From beloved spiritual writer and Catholic leader Gregory Floyd comes a moving meditation on the power of memory and how God is often more clearly seen when we look back. This is a book about memory, about what stays in the mind, and why. It is a book about the presence of God in our lives and the sights, sounds, words, and experiences that become unforgettable. Beginning with a single word he heard in the middle of the night—one that changed his life—this powerful memoir by Gregory Floyd asks the question: without memory, who are we? It is a meditation on beauty, marriage, family, and prayer, asking of the memories that each implants: what do they reveal? Where do they lead? —and witnessing to their potential to draw us to God.

Download or read book Material Culture Matters written by John R. Spencer and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2014-05-05 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Seymour Gitin is completing his tenure as Director and Dorot Professor at the W. F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Jerusalem. Much of his long career has been spent helping young scholars expand their contacts and hone their skills. This volume is a collection of articles by some of the many developing scholars and Albright fellows with whom Sy has shared his time and knowledge. Their appreciation shows in the quality of their articles, the breadth of their interests, and their dedication to Sy Gitin. The articles range from a discussion of tomb robbing in Palestinian areas, to a geographical analysis of the Shephelah region, to Islamic historical texts, to Israelite cult stands, to Middle Bronze Age burials. In addition, there are several articles by former members of the Tel Miqne–Ekron staff that draw on the finds from that site and further demonstrate Sy’s willingness to mentor and to share the publication of the site’s rich trove of materials. This book not only honors Dr. Gitin by the willingness of fellows to contribute to the volume; it also expands our knowledge base of the southern Levant and shows that “Material Culture Matters.”

  • Release : 2016-02-23
  • ISBN : 1493405896
  • Pages : 352 pages

Download or read book The Priority of Christ written by Robert Barron and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2016-02-23 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Major Statement on Christology from Bishop Robert Barron For a long time, Christians have tried to bridge the divide between Christianity and secular liberalism with philosophy and theology. Bishop Robert Barron shows that the answer to this debate--and the way to move forward--lies in Jesus. Barron transcends the usual liberal/conservative or Protestant/Catholic divides with a postliberal Catholicism that brings the focus back on Jesus as revealed in the New Testament narratives. Barron's classical Catholic postliberalism will be of interest to a broad audience including not only the academic community but also preachers and general readers interested in entering the dialogue between Catholicism and postliberalism. The hardcover edition includes a new preface by the author. Praise for The Priority of Christ "Barron's wonderful book The Priority of Christ brings postliberalism back to its Catholic home. . . . A downright lovely book, written with a kind of winsome literary flair that exhibits the inviting clarity of a master teacher. Highly recommended." --James K. A. Smith, Religious Studies Review "The book is full of gems worthy of hours of contemplation." --Mark G. Boyer, The Priest
