Book Strengthening and Rehabilitation of Civil Infrastructures Using Fibre Reinforced Polymer FRP Composites

Download or read book Strengthening and Rehabilitation of Civil Infrastructures Using Fibre Reinforced Polymer FRP Composites written by L C Hollaway and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008-07-18 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The repair of deteriorated, damaged and substandard civil infrastructures has become one of the most important issues for the civil engineer worldwide. This important book discusses the use of externally-bonded fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites to strengthen, rehabilitate and retrofit civil engineering structures, covering such aspects as material behaviour, structural design and quality assurance. The first three chapters of the book review structurally-deficient civil engineering infrastructure, including concrete, metallic, masonry and timber structures. FRP composites used in rehabilitation and surface preparation of the component materials are also reviewed. The next four chapters deal with the design of FRP systems for the flexural and shear strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) beams and the strengthening of RC columns. The following two chapters examine the strengthening of metallic and masonry structures with FRP composites. The last four chapters of the book are devoted to practical considerations in the flexural strengthening of beams with unstressed and prestressed FRP plates, durability of externally bonded FRP composite systems, quality assurance and control, maintenance, repair, and case studies. With its distinguished editors and international team of contributors, Strengthening and rehabilitation of civil infrastructures using fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites is a valuable reference guide for engineers, scientists and technical personnel in civil and structural engineering working on the rehabilitation and strengthening of the civil infrastructure. Reviews the use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in structurally damaged and sub-standard civil engineering structures Examines the role and benefits of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in different types of structures such as masonry and metallic strengthening Covers practical considerations including material behaviour, structural design and quality assurance

Book Bridge Inspection Maintenance and Repair

Download or read book Bridge Inspection Maintenance and Repair written by Departments of the Army and the Air Force and published by . This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In maintenance planning and execution, full consideration must be given to future expected use of each bridge, the life expectancy of the bridge, and the life-cycle cost of periodic repairs versus replacement of a bridge or its major components. The level of maintenance and programming ofmajor repairs should be planned in consonancewith future requirement for the bridge and/orplanned replacement. The maintenance programshould be designed to include prevention of deterioration and damage, prompt detection of deficiencies, and early accomplishment of maintenance and repairs to prevent interruptions of operations or limitation/restriction of bridge use.

Book Inspection Assessment and Restoration of Bridges in British Columbia

Download or read book Inspection Assessment and Restoration of Bridges in British Columbia written by and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper summarizes the bridge deck inspection program used by the british columbia ministry of transportation and outlines a typical restoration project using high density portland cement concrete overlays. the paper focuses on rapid-setting low slump overlays for use on bridges with heavy traffic volumes where long closure periods are not feasible. field trials were conducted on three cementitious materials by constructing deck overlays and opening the bridge to traffic three hours after placement. the materials examined were: 1) non-accelerated high alumina cement (h.a.c.), 2) accelerated high alumina cement concrete, and 3) rapid setting regulated cement concrete. of the three, the regulated set cement showed the most promise and further performance testing is underway. for the covering abstract of the conference see irrd 807058.

Book Non Destructive Evaluation of Reinforced Concrete Structures

Download or read book Non Destructive Evaluation of Reinforced Concrete Structures written by Christiane Maierhofer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-07-27 with total page 631 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineers have a range of sophisticated techniques at their disposal to evaluate the condition of reinforced concrete structures and non-destructive evaluation plays a key part in assessing and prioritising where money should be spent on repair or replacement of structurally deficient reinforced concrete structures. Non-destructive evaluation of reinforced concrete structures, Volume 2: Non-destructive testing methods reviews the latest non-destructive testing techniques for reinforced concrete structures and how they are used. Part one discusses planning and implementing non-destructive testing of reinforced concrete structures with chapters on non-destructive testing methods for building diagnosis, development of automated NDE systems, structural health monitoring systems and data fusion. Part two reviews individual non-destructive testing techniques including wireless monitoring, electromagnetic and acoustic-elastic waves, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, acoustic emission evaluation, magnetic flux leakage, electrical resistivity, capacimetry, measuring the corrosion rate (polarization resistance) and the corrosion potential of reinforced concrete structures, ground penetrating radar, radar tomography, active thermography, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, stress wave propagation, impact-echo, surface and guided wave techniques and ultrasonics. Part three covers case studies including inspection of concrete retaining walls using ground penetrating radar, acoustic emission and impact echo techniques and using ground penetrating radar to assess an eight-span post-tensioned viaduct. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Non-destructive evaluation of reinforced concrete structures, Volume 2: Non-destructive testing methods is a standard reference for civil and structural engineers as well as those concerned with making decisions regarding the safety of reinforced concrete structures. Reviews the latest non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques and how they are used in practice Explores the process of planning a non-destructive program features strategies for the application of NDT testing A specific section outlines significant advances in individual NDT techniques and features wireless monitoring and electromagnetic and acoustic-elastic wave technology
