Book excerpt: Organic Chemistry, Volume 2: Bridged Aromatic Compounds covers the research studies on cyclophane chemistry, bridged ferrocenes, and other similar compounds. This volume contains 10 chapters. The first five chapters describe the nomenclature, synthesis, reactions, chemistry, and dissymmetry of bridged aromatic compounds. The subsequent four chapters discuss the application of selected analytical methods to delineate the chemistry of these compounds, including UV and infrared absorption spectroscopy, X-ray methods, and nuclear and electron magnetic resonance. The last chapter provides tabulations of the more common physical properties reported for bridged aromatic compounds. Organic chemists and researchers and undergraduate and graduate organic chemistry students will greatly appreciate this book.

Download or read book Cyclophanes written by François Diederich and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyclophanes are bridged aromatic compounds and represent the central class of synthetic receptors in molecular recognition. All types of substrates, from inorganic and organic cations and anions, to neutral molecules have been complexed by tailor-made cyclophanes. This monograph focuses on the principles of supramolecular complexation and catalysis. It provides a state-of-the-art review of the intermolecular forces that hold together the supramolecular complexes of cyclophanes with neutral and charged organic molecules in the liquid phase. Cyclophanes also demonstrates the characteristics and advantages of bridged aromatic compounds as receptors. The book has great clarity, is very readable and will be extremely useful in both teaching and research.

Book The Chemistry of Nonbenzenoid Aromatic Compounds II

Download or read book The Chemistry of Nonbenzenoid Aromatic Compounds II written by R. Kreher and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Nonbenzenoid Aromatic Compounds — II is a collection of plenary lectures presented at the Second International Symposium on the Chemistry of Nonbenzenoid Aromatic Compounds. Starting with a review of the synthesis and study of select heterocycles, the book includes results and developments in this area. A significant part of the reviews of nonbenzenoid aromatic compounds is the examination of annulenese that contain larger Huckel systems than benzene. The demand for better synthetic methods in the study has increased as bridged annulenes have been made for suitable models of testing theoretical concepts. Early studies on some nonbenzenoid aromatic compounds and the related problems are also discussed. A description of the syntheses of several polycyclic systems that contain potential cyclobutadiene rings follows. Studies are made on 8-oxoheptafulvene chemistry after earlier chemical and physical examination of heptafulvene and related compounds provided avenues for research. Some aspects of strained systems, [4]annulene and its Ch+adduct are reviewed in terms of usefulness when applying a theoretical guide, proving the calculations and experiments. Studies on higher membered annulenyl ions belonging to five groups are also discussed. Research chemists, students, and professors in chemistry and related fields such as organic chemistry will find this collection useful.

Download or read book Cyclophanes written by Philip M. Keehn and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyclophanes, Volume II, provides a comprehensive review of the field of cyclophane chemistry for the period between the earlier volume in this series (Bridged Aromatic Compounds by A. H. Smith, 1964) and the present (generally through 1981). An attempt has been made to provide a selection of topics that delineate the past and present of cyclophane chemistry and point toward some of its future directions. The ordering of chapters has been chosen to present background, theory, structure, and spectroscopy followed by a somewhat arbitrary division of cyclophanes into subgroups, roughly in order of increasing structural complexity. Key topics discussed include the synthesis and properties of heterophanes, condensed benzenoid and nonbenzenoid cyclophanes, multibridged and multilayered cyclophanes, cyclophanes in host-guest chemistry, and cyclophanes as synthetic analogs of enzymes and receptors. Individual chapters have been written so that they may be read with little or no direct reference to other chapters. Each stands alone as a review of a particular area of cyclophane chemistry and therefore some overlap between chapters will be apparent.

Book excerpt: Examines aromaticity through the historical and conceptual framework of simple molecular orbital theory. This approach is unique in that theoretical considerations are integrated with experimental observations. The criteria for aromatic, antiaromatic and nonaromatic compounds are discussed in with reference to benzene, cyclobutadiene and cyclooctatetraene. Also includes a chapter on the likely classes of aromatic compounds.
