Book Breckinridge

Download or read book Breckinridge written by William C. Davis and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 1020 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John C. Breckinridge rose to prominence during one of the most turbulent times in our nation's history. Widely respected, even by his enemies, for his dedication to moderate liberalism, Breckinridge's charisma and integrity led to his election as Vice President at age 35, the youngest ever in America's history. After a decade of being out-of-print, Breckinridge: Statesman, Soldier, Symbol returns as the quintessential biography of one of Kentucky's great moderates. Historian William C. Davis sheds light on Breckinridge's life throughout three key periods, spanning his career as a celebrated statesman, heroic soldier, and proponent of the reconciliation. A true Kentucky hero, "Old Breck's" bravery in battle, dedication to the pursuit of truth, and unique ability to win the loyalty of others rank him alongside Henry Clay and Simon Kenton. Drawing from a remarkable collection of sources, including previously unknown documents and letters, as well as the papers of his associates and extensive aid from the Breckinridge family, Davis presents the legacy of a man often overlooked.

Book Visual Experience

Download or read book Visual Experience written by Wylie Breckenridge and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wylie Breckenridge offers a fresh understanding of the character of visual experience by deploying the methods of semantics. He develops a theory of what we mean by the 'look' sentences that we use to describe the character of our visual experiences, and on that basis develops a theory of what it is to have a visual experience with a certain character. The result is a new and stronger defence of a neglected view, the adverbial theory of perception.

Book The Tears That Flow Into The Kanawha River

Download or read book The Tears That Flow Into The Kanawha River written by Leon Breckenridge and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2021-05-19 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Tears that Flow into the Kanawha River" is about a man named Leon Breckenridge who relives his life about his experiences as an African American man living in a segregated community by the Kanawha River, before advancing to desegregation. Leon recalls the people who set the foundation for his trials, pains, failures, triumphs, and success. He writes about his younger years in the 1960s and thereon when his father put a 38-pistol to his head, and his mother suffering from mental illness. He takes us back to the 1960s when black and brown people protest for equality. People riot and hurt each other while vandalizing properties. Leon shares stories about living in Massachusetts and the people he met along the way that made an impact in his life. He gains strength due to his faith in Jesus Christ. Leon Breckenridge is a Vietnam Veteran who resides in Massachusetts with his family. After he retired, he decided to write an autobiography to share his life stories living in Montgomery West Virginia as a young boy during time of racial tension. One of the many concerns Leon carried over the years are the demolition of Simmons High School that was a historic Black school and the destruction of the African American cemetery where the bones of the slaves had their last resting place.
