Book excerpt: "Dogs have been mankind's faithful companions for tens of thousands of years, yet today they are regularly treated as either pack-following wolves or furry humans. The truth is, dogs are neither--and our misunderstanding has put them in serious crisis. What dogs really need is a spokesperson, someone who will assert their specific needs. Renowned anthrozoologist Dr. John Bradshaw has made a career of studying human-animal interactions, and in Dog Sense he uses the latest scientific research to show how humans can live in harmony with--not just dominion over-- their four-legged friends. From explaining why positive reinforcement is a more effective (and less damaging) way to control dogs' behavior than punishment to demonstrating the importance of weighing a dog's unique personality against stereotypes about its breed, Bradshaw offers extraordinary insight into the question of how we really ought to treat our dogs"--

Book How to Break Bad Habits

Download or read book How to Break Bad Habits written by Haitham Al Fiqi and published by BookRix. This book was released on 2023-11-11 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are hundreds of bad habits and hundreds of ways to break them. if you need help, there are books, support groups, and counselors to help you. Mostly you can take a common sense approach and get the job done. If bragging is one of your bad habits, you could either be insecure or overly proud. It usually makes the other person feel bad, or they resent you. You can get a handle on this bad habit if you stop for a few seconds before you talk. Give yourself time to think about others and how this will sound to them. Think about whether you are telling it to them, or to yourself. Another one of these bad habits is name dropping. Again, you may be insecure. Most people will not take it in a friendly way. Try to tell your same stories but without the names to stop yourself from doing this. You might say, "My friend Brad" instead of "my friend Brad Pitt," or something like that. Cursing is one of those bad habits that can start at an early age. You may curse so much that you are unaware that you are doing it much of the time. The first thing to do is to pay attention. Whenever you say inappropriate words, put money in a jar. Even if it is your coffee money, put it in there. Also, you might want to think about anger management classes if your cursing is done in a hostile way. If you have the bad habit of chewing with your mouth open, there may be a physical cause. It is disgusting at the dinner table and might make you look bad at a dinner meeting. Perhaps all you need is a nasal decongestant. Maybe if you can breathe through your nose, you will close your mouth. You may be a whiner. This is one of those bad habits that annoy people from the time you are a child until you are old or until you quit it. It comes out in the sound of your voice and the expression on your face. However, it is rooted in a negative, doom and gloom attitude. Look on the positive side of things, and you will find yourself whining less. Buy This eBook Now!

Book Shaping the Wolf Within Your Dog

Download or read book Shaping the Wolf Within Your Dog written by Nathan B. Childs and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shaping the Wolf Within Your Dog is a comparison study of wolf and dog behavior. It is also a comprehensive guide for living in harmony with dogs. We know dogs are genetically related to the wolf; and both exhibit identical instincts, behaviors, temperaments, and dispositions - and both abide to the law of nature that contends: for any animal grouping to survive, there must be social order and communication between its members. Knowing this, we should learn all we can about wolf behavior, and incorporate that knowledge with our dogs. By learning how pack animals establish social order and communicate with one another, we can use this information to shape our dogs' natural instincts, without having to use food bribes or violence. When we communicate in our dogs' language, we will be able to communicate our leadership. The outcome will be predictable, for we will be using the same methods of an alpha wolf when he establishes and maintains social order with a pack of wolves. We will be shaping the same wolf instincts that are intact and engaged in each of our dogs. Shaping the Wolf Within Your Dog illuminates: The natural behavior of canines The language of canines How alphas lead their packs How alphas discipline and show affection The hierarchy of the wolf social order The natural friendliness, loyalty, and devotion of pack members How to pick the best pup from a litter How to establish social order with pups Basic obedience and off lead obedience Family protection training
