Book excerpt: Teacher Mr Bernard Boyle (aka Bernard0 B0ilinni Ringhi0 di R0ssi of the Orb Zeronia) was almost out of breath, but never of magical Boyle-Breaths - good and bad! ('BOYLE-BREATH' - Bk1). Bernard had just been made Acting Head at Roquefort High School, and Bernard0 had saved a teenage school suicide 'jumper' off Roquefort's infamous '3Rs' bridge, its Rogue-Rapids Roadbridge; but at the action-packed end of Bernard's first term as a Depute Head ('BOYLE-BREATH BREATHES' - Bk2) the High's Mr Damien Mortenson had resigned. Aaron Brown somehow had survived; but Damien had had enough, especially his having found out that school bully-chief Nikki Dedson's evil-mentor Cameron Mitchell was his own (previously sent for adoption) son! Quite why Dedson's helper-in-chief Aaron Brown had tried to kill himself was a secret known only to the Bernards and the boy himself. A new school term beckoned, so schoolchildren and their families did too (indeed Boyle's half-Zero children Rino and Zea were now both 13 - younger Zero girls catching up with '0' brothers in actual human age as well as the usual intelligence and behaviour). Bullying was continuing also; séances, ghosts and vampires, dream-haunting and clinical depression - but murder? Social Workers, they're always about somewhere, always for the best yeah? Immigrants and gypsies, angels and devils, tattooists and em referees? IEDs...! (But what if that Time-shifting sniper Mortenson had been able to pull the trigger on Lady Di...; what if the Confederates won the American Civil War...would Abraham Lincoln have become a Vampire Slayer? That 'Butterfly Effect' theory, Ray, does it hold truth? Really, really?) Father Stephen O'Reilly, what of him...a Time-travelling priest? Bless me Father!! Remember HIM &HER? Mm well of course you do! What if Richard and Faith decided to get married and tell everyone everything in the end?! Nikki Dedson: the Bully extraordinaire? Yes, he's still alive, but he's in two worlds now. Is he still a bully? Of course he is, and in both! Boyle-Breath is a stinker, but with all those earthly pongs and perfumes at his beck and call he could, he had, and he would continue to help change noses, minds, lives, worlds! What was Mr Boyle to do first though? How was his Zeronian 'half' Bernard0 to help? Where was a question: Earth &/or Zeronia? When was the subsequent problem...the Past, the Present; the Future They'd begin...at the End. "Boyle-Breath Breathes" - 'BREATHTAKING!' The Zeronian Bugle.

Book Breathing for Warriors

Download or read book Breathing for Warriors written by Belisa Vranich and published by St. Martin's Essentials. This book was released on 2020-03-10 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Belisa Vranich's ground-breaking second book teaches the science, techniques, and benefits of breathing correctly and efficiently for warriors in all walks of life. People are less in touch with their bodies—and especially their breathing—than ever before. Ironically, athletes and others who pride themselves on taking care of their bodies actually put themselves at greater risk. Why? Because they’re asking their body to take on next-level demands, but failing at life’s most essential skill: efficient breathing. Proper breathing is the world’s most powerful biohack. Learning it will help you feel better, avoid injury, and perform at your very best (including in bed!). Champion gladiators, master martial artists, even spearfishers all had one thing in common: efficient breathing to achieve flawless execution. An elite few still understand: Navy SEALs who need to make the perfect shot, super-elite weightlifters who truly understand how to harness and channel their energy, free-divers who can spend seemingly impossible amounts of time underwater, and high-profile execs who keep calm before multi-billion-dollar presentations. You can learn their secrets. From the corporate athlete to the tactical ninja, Breathing for Warriors is a practical, science-forward book that focuses on everything related to breathing and performance—from muscles and workouts to an impenetrable inner game.

Book Principles of the Boyle s Law Emergency Pressure Suit and Their Application

Download or read book Principles of the Boyle s Law Emergency Pressure Suit and Their Application written by Otto Schueller and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An urgent requirement exists for a simple, reliable emergency pressure suit, permeable to air and comfortable while unpressurized, the condition in which the pressure suit is worn most of the time. The Boyle's Law Suit meets these essential requirements. It uses the expansion of gas sealed in multiple tubes for producing mechanical counterpressure on the skin. Oxygen is used in the mask or helmet only for breathing, thus reducing vulnerability and fire hazard to a minimum. This report analyzes the physical and technical principles of the Boyle's Law Suit and their practical application toward improving design of the tube system, minimizing bulk, tube charging procedures, and sizing and adjustment possibilities. Finally, recommendations for redesigning the oxygen regulator to minimize breathing effort are given. (Author).

Book Regulation of Tissue Oxygenation Second Edition

Download or read book Regulation of Tissue Oxygenation Second Edition written by Roland N. Pittman and published by Biota Publishing. This book was released on 2016-08-18 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This presentation describes various aspects of the regulation of tissue oxygenation, including the roles of the circulatory system, respiratory system, and blood, the carrier of oxygen within these components of the cardiorespiratory system. The respiratory system takes oxygen from the atmosphere and transports it by diffusion from the air in the alveoli to the blood flowing through the pulmonary capillaries. The cardiovascular system then moves the oxygenated blood from the heart to the microcirculation of the various organs by convection, where oxygen is released from hemoglobin in the red blood cells and moves to the parenchymal cells of each tissue by diffusion. Oxygen that has diffused into cells is then utilized in the mitochondria to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy currency of all cells. The mitochondria are able to produce ATP until the oxygen tension or PO2 on the cell surface falls to a critical level of about 4–5 mm Hg. Thus, in order to meet the energetic needs of cells, it is important to maintain a continuous supply of oxygen to the mitochondria at or above the critical PO2 . In order to accomplish this desired outcome, the cardiorespiratory system, including the blood, must be capable of regulation to ensure survival of all tissues under a wide range of circumstances. The purpose of this presentation is to provide basic information about the operation and regulation of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, as well as the properties of the blood and parenchymal cells, so that a fundamental understanding of the regulation of tissue oxygenation is achieved.

Book Burchard de Volder and the Age of the Scientific Revolution

Download or read book Burchard de Volder and the Age of the Scientific Revolution written by Andrea Strazzoni and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-18 with total page 755 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph details the entire scientific thought of an influential natural philosopher whose contributions, unfortunately, have become obscured by the pages of history. Readers will discover an important thinker: Burchard de Volder. He was instrumental in founding the first experimental cabinet at a European University in 1675. The author goes beyond the familiar image of De Volder as a forerunner of Newtonianism in Continental Europe. He consults neglected materials, including handwritten sources, and takes into account new historiographical categories. His investigation maps the thought of an author who did not sit with an univocal philosophical school, but critically dealt with all the ‘major’ philosophers and scientists of his age: from Descartes to Newton, via Spinoza, Boyle, Huygens, Bernoulli, and Leibniz. It explores the way De Volder’s un-systematic thought used, rejected, and re-shaped their theories and approaches. In addition, the title includes transcriptions of De Volder's teaching materials: disputations, dictations, and notes. Insightful analysis combined with a trove of primary source material will help readers gain a new perspective on a thinker so far mostly ignored by scholars. They will find a thoughtful figure who engaged with early modern science and developed a place that fostered experimental philosophy.

Book excerpt: About the Book Melodic Sculpturing is intended to provide a comprehensive, developmental approach to vocal instruction for the teacher and for a serious singer. The contents are based on the author's professional experience as a singer and teacher of singing and on the writings of many great teachers of the past and present. The book addresses the physiology of the voice, psychology of voice production, relevant acoustics, and corrections for vocal faults. It also deals with diction, breath management, and vibrato prognosis. Suggestions for using technology as an objective visual tool in voice instruction are included in an entire chapter on the topic. A major and unique portion of the book presents a subject regularly omitted from textbooks on vocal production - interpretation and style. The author presents 34 "principles" of melodic practices that may enhance composers' and poets' intentions, while providing greater interest and involvement for the listener. It is like an encyclopedia for teaching students and for learning to sing well. This inspiring and encouraging volume is filled with documentation from vocal masters of two centuries and many apropos quotations that bolster the interest for the reader. Nearly 100 vocal examples (VEs) are identified and coded in the chapters. They are available at www.MelodicSculpturing.com for downloading. Two accompanying 1-semester workbooks geared for voice classes, the private studio, and a singer's personal use are published separately.
