Book Off Knot Spline Interpolation and Constrained Approximation Some Negative Results

Download or read book Off Knot Spline Interpolation and Constrained Approximation Some Negative Results written by James W. Daniel and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quadratic splines are generated which interpolate a function and its derivative at points midway between alternate pairs of knots, and the error bound is shown to be precisely of order (h sup 2) rather than (h sup 3) as expected. This result is related to best constrained approximation by splines and thence to Galerkin methods for constrained problems. (Author).

Download or read book Spline Functions written by Larry L. Schumaker and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes in detail the key algorithms needed for computing with spline functions and illustrates their use in solving several basic problems in numerical analysis, including function approximation, numerical quadrature, data fitting, and the numerical solution of PDE's. The focus is on computational methods for bivariate splines on triangulations in the plane and on the sphere, although both univariate and tensor-product splines are also discussed. The book contains numerous examples and figures to illustrate the methods and their performance. All of the algorithms in the book have been coded in a separate MATLAB package available for license. The package can be used to run all of the examples in the book and also provides readers with the essential tools needed to create software for their own applications. In addition to the included bibliography, a list of over 100 pages of additional references can be found on the book's website.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, which presents the cumulation of the authors' research in the field, deals with Lidstone, Hermite, Abel--Gontscharoff, Birkhoff, piecewise Hermite and Lidstone, spline and Lidstone--spline interpolating problems. Explicit representations of the interpolating polynomials and associated error functions are given, as well as explicit error inequalities in various norms. Numerical illustrations are provided of the importance and sharpness of the various results obtained. Also demonstrated are the significance of these results in the theory of ordinary differential equations such as maximum principles, boundary value problems, oscillation theory, disconjugacy and disfocality. Book Methods of Shape preserving Spline Approximation

Download or read book Methods of Shape preserving Spline Approximation written by Boris I. Kvasov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to develop algorithms of shape-preserving spline approximation for curves/surfaces with automatic choice of the tension parameters. The resulting curves/surfaces retain geometric properties of the initial data, such as positivity, monotonicity, convexity, linear and planar sections. The main tools used are generalized tension splines and B-splines. A difference method for constructing tension splines is also developed which permits one to avoid the computation of hyperbolic functions and provides other computational advantages. The algorithms of monotonizing parametrization described improve an adequate representation of the resulting shape-preserving curves/surfaces. Detailed descriptions of algorithms are given, with a strong emphasis on their computer implementation. These algorithms can be applied to solve many problems in computer-aided geometric design.

Book excerpt: Der Begriff der Splinefunktionen wurde von I.J. Schoenberg 1946 eingefUhrt. Book Development of Some Lacunary Interpolation by S F and Application

Download or read book Development of Some Lacunary Interpolation by S F and Application written by Radha Ghafoor and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this thesis was the development of the study of lacunary interpolation by spline functions and their applications by changed the boundary condition for quantic and sixtic spline functions, and the algorithm was used to find the new absolute error between the original function and the spline function, and also the error bounded between the derivatives of original function and the derivatives of spline functions. Firstly, the object of this work is to show that the change of the boundary conditions and the class of spline functions have effect on minimizing error bounds theoretically and practically, and for application, the )NEB( algorithm was used. Secondly, in this study, (0, 4) lacunary interpolation was generalized by quantic spline function to obtain, the existence, uniqueness, and error bounds for the generalized (0, 4) lacunary interpolation by quantic spline. Finally, the lacunary interpolation problem consisted of finding the sixth degree spline of deficiency four, interpolating the data given on the function value with first and fourth order in the interval [0,1]. Also, an extra initial condition was prescribed on the second derivative of the functions.

Book Optimal Estimation in Approximation Theory

Download or read book Optimal Estimation in Approximation Theory written by Charles Michelli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume were presented at an International Symposium on Optimal Estimation in Approximation Theory which was held in Freudenstadt, Federal Republic of Germany, September 27-29, 1976. The symposium was sponsored by the IBM World Trade Europe/Middle East/Africa Corporation, Paris, and IBM Germany. On behalf of all the participants we wish to express our appreciation to the spon sors for their generous support. In the past few years the quantification of the notion of com plexity for various important computational procedures (e. g. multi plication of numbers or matrices) has been widely studied. Some such concepts are necessary ingredients in the quest for optimal, or nearly optimal, algorithms. The purpose of this symposium was to present recent results of similar character in the field or ap proximation theory, as well as to describe the algorithms currently being used in important areas of application of approximation theory such as: crystallography, data transmission systems, cartography, reconstruction from x-rays, planning of radiation treatment, optical perception, analysis of decay processes and inertial navigation system control. It was the hope of the organizers that this con frontation of theory and practice would be of benefit to both groups. Whatever success th•~ symposium had is due, in no small part, to the generous and wise scientific counsel of Professor Helmut Werner, to whom the organizers are most grateful. Dr. T. J. Rivlin Dr. P.
