Book Bothered By Alligators

Download or read book Bothered By Alligators written by Marion Milner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Milner's final text, Bothered by Alligators, came about when, in her nineties, she unexpectedly came across a diary she had kept during the early years of her son's life, recording his conversations and play between the ages of two and nine. With it was a storybook written and illustrated by him when he was about seven years old. Whilst working on the material, Milner gradually realised that both diary and storybook were provoking questions she realised had scarcely been asked, let alone answered in her own analysis. Through her memories, her notebooks and by interpreting her own previously discarded drawings and paintings, she reaches a point of awareness that they were depicting things she did not know in herself, addressing her relationships not only with her son but also with her husband, her father, and in particular, her mother. Like many of Milner's earlier books there is a deeply personal quality to Bothered by Alligators, but it is a quality that transcends the personal and reveals insights and conclusions that will be both interesting and useful to clinicians; and fascinating to readers from a psychological, a literary, an artistic or an educational background, and, in particular, those with an interest in psychoanalysis and autobiography and in Milner's work.

Book Hot and Bothered

Download or read book Hot and Bothered written by Jancee Dunn and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2023-05-02 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Hot and Bothered removes the shame, disdain, and mystery that’s surrounded menopause….An informative, entertaining and desperately needed book.” —Jen Sincero, author of You Are a Badass When Jancee Dunn hit her mid-forties, she was bombarded by seemingly random symptoms: rampant insomnia, spring-loaded nerves, weirdly dry mouth, and Rio Grande-level periods. After going to multiple doctors who ran test after fruitless test, she was surprised to finally discover the culprit—perimenopause. For more than two decades, Jancee had been reporting on mental and physical health. So if she was unprepared for this, what about all the women who don’t write about health for a living? Hot and Bothered is the book she wishes existed as she was scrambling for information: an empowering, research-based guide on how women can tackle this new stage of life. Menopause isn’t a disease, but a natural, normal life transition. Why, then, are we still speaking in whispers about something that affects half the earth’s population? Through in-depth interviews with renowned menopause experts and trusted authorities, Dunn peels back the layers on this still-mystifying topic with her trademark humor and unpacks the science on both hormonal and nonhormonal treatments. She provides actionable ways to improve sleep, sex, moods, mental clarity, and skin; details the latest treatments for hot flashes; and explores the best practices to stop “peezing” (that would be peeing when you sneeze, thanks to your new urinary issues). Dunn’s clear, easy-to-follow advice will help you reclaim yourself—and fully embrace life’s next chapter.

Book Dewigged Bothered and Bewildered

Download or read book Dewigged Bothered and Bewildered written by John McLaren and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2011-10-22 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the British colonies in the nineteenth century, judges were expected not only to administer law and justice, but also to play a significant role within the governance of their jurisdictions. British authorities were consequently concerned about judges' loyalty to the Crown, and on occasion removed or suspended those who were found politically subversive or personally difficult. Even reasonable and well balanced judges were sometimes threatened with removal. Using the career histories of judges who challenged the system, Dewigged, Bothered, and Bewildered illuminates issues of judicial tenure, accountability, and independence throughout the British Empire. John McLaren closely examines cases of judges across a wide geographic spectrum — from Australia to the Caribbean, and from Canada to Sierra Leone — who faced disciplinary action. These riveting stories provide helpful insights into the tenuous position of the colonial judiciary and the precarious state of politics in a variety of British colonies.

Book Bordered Bodies Bothered Voices

Download or read book Bordered Bodies Bothered Voices written by Jione Havea and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-04-29 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theologies are constructed in and from lived contexts, and contexts are shaped by borders. While borders are barriers, they are also steppingstones for crossing over and invitations for moving further. This book offers theological and cultural reflections from the intersections of borders (real and imagined), bodies (physical, cultural, religious, ideological, political), and voices (that endorse as well as talk back). With and in the interests of natives and migrants, the authors of this book embrace bordered bodies and stir bothered voices. The essays are divided into four overlapping clusters that express the shared drives between the authors--Noble borders: some borders are not experienced as constricting because they are seen as noble; Negotiating bodies: bodies constantly negotiate and relocate borders; Troubling voices: bothered voices cannot be muted or silenced; Riotous bodies: embracing the wisdom in and of rejected and wounded bodies is a riot that this book invites. The authors engage their subjects out of their experiences as migrants and natives. This book is thus a step toward--and an invitation for more work on--migrant and native theologies.

Book Are You Still Bothered by the Past

Download or read book Are You Still Bothered by the Past written by Anne Anderson and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They say you're only as sick as your deepest secret...and Anne Anderson, a victim of unimaginable sexual abuse, had plenty of them. The product of a broken and dysfunctional home, Anderson's childhood was like something out of a nightmare, leaving her abandoned, molested, manipulated, drugged, and even prostituted. The closest thing to love that she experienced was offered with one condition: that she'd agree to have sex. Never mind that she was only twelve years old. And never mind that the man was her only father figure-a man who was supposed to protect and care for her. Unsurprisingly, she was left damaged and deeply scarred, her pain and suffering extending far beyond the abuse itself. For years, she carried around the baggage of her past, feeling emotionally empty and disconnected. When she became a Christian, she thought it was an immediate solution, hoping that her newfound faith would make everything right. But a lifetime of self-sabotaging patterns weren't so easily broken. So how does one move on from such trauma? In Are You Still Bothered by the Past? author Anne Anderson candidly shares her story of abuse, as well as her personal recovery process. Her inspirational message encourages other abuse victims, showing that no matter the circumstances, it is possible to rise above your past and find the hope, healing, and love you long for.
