It undertook its maiden flight in 1967 and began flying commercially for Lufthansa as the 737-100. A significant order from United Airlines saw the slightly larger 737-200 built, which would soon become the standard size model. Despite slow sales initially, these early models would eventually prove to be an enormous success, and herald the beginnings of a family of airliners that are still in production today as the 737 MAX. By the time the final 737-200 was delivered in 1988, over 1,000 examples had been built for customers around the world. These included military variants and those capable of carrying cargo. It provides updates on insecticide application methods and equipment, physical requirements of aerosol and residual sprays, and revised calculation tables for aerosol spray amounts required, as well as updated examples of pre-embarkation and pre-departure cabin treatment and certification requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It is intended for use by Member States and stakeholders (e.g. airlines, airport authorities, members of the International Air Transport Association, ICAO, pesticide manufacturers and pesticide regulatory agencies). Countries that are in liaison with the departure country should observe the requirements for disinsection of arriving aircraft, taking into consideration various risk factors described in the document. At the time his main activities were those of leading the departments of Aerodynamics, Performance and Preliminary Design at Fokker Aircraft Company. The groundwork for this book started in 1987 as a series of lecture notes consisting mainly of pictorial material with a minimum of English explanatory text. After the demise of Fokker in 1996 one feared that interest in aeronautical engineering would strongly diminish. As a result of this, the course was discontinued and the relationship between the author and the faculty came to an end. Two years later the situation was reappraised, and the interest in aeronautical engineering remained, so the course was reinstated with a former Fokker colleague Ronald Slingerland as lecturer. The lecture notes from these courses form the foundation of this publication.
