Book How the Body Shapes the Way We Think

Download or read book How the Body Shapes the Way We Think written by Rolf Pfeifer and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2006-10-27 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of embodied intelligence and its implications points toward a theory of intelligence in general; with case studies of intelligent systems in ubiquitous computing, business and management, human memory, and robotics. How could the body influence our thinking when it seems obvious that the brain controls the body? In How the Body Shapes the Way We Think, Rolf Pfeifer and Josh Bongard demonstrate that thought is not independent of the body but is tightly constrained, and at the same time enabled, by it. They argue that the kinds of thoughts we are capable of have their foundation in our embodiment—in our morphology and the material properties of our bodies. This crucial notion of embodiment underlies fundamental changes in the field of artificial intelligence over the past two decades, and Pfeifer and Bongard use the basic methodology of artificial intelligence—"understanding by building"—to describe their insights. If we understand how to design and build intelligent systems, they reason, we will better understand intelligence in general. In accessible, nontechnical language, and using many examples, they introduce the basic concepts by building on recent developments in robotics, biology, neuroscience, and psychology to outline a possible theory of intelligence. They illustrate applications of such a theory in ubiquitous computing, business and management, and the psychology of human memory. Embodied intelligence, as described by Pfeifer and Bongard, has important implications for our understanding of both natural and artificial intelligence.

Book Your Yin Yang Body Type

Download or read book Your Yin Yang Body Type written by Gary Wagman and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-12-29 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimize your health by learning the inherent strengths and weaknesses of your body type • Explains the 4 major body types of Korean Sasang medicine; the best foods, exercises, and herbs for each; and what to avoid • Reveals how the Yin Yang energy balance of the bodily organs relates to the emotional balance and health of each body type • Provides 2 different self-tests to determine your type Deeply rooted in the classics of Oriental medicine, the ancient Korean art of Sasang medicine explains how we each are born with a specific body “type” that establishes our physical and emotional strengths and weaknesses. These traits have a direct influence on how we interact with others and react to stress, trauma, and illness. Discovering your type can empower you to make the best choices regarding your health and well-being. In this book, Dr. Gary Wagman explores the 4 major body types of Sasang medicine and 2 different self-tests to determine your type. He explains the balance of Yin and Yang energy within the organs for each type and how this underlies your emotional tendencies and health patterns. With a strong spleen and weaker kidneys, for example, the Yang type A person will be inclined to anger and susceptible to urinary complaints. Offering stories from his Sasang medical practice, as well as his own healing, the author shows how organ excesses and deficiencies are often the culprit in emotional and psychological issues and how addressing these energetic imbalances can bring about lasting change. Dr. Wagman provides an extensive look at the most beneficial foods for each type and those that could be harmful, as well as which forms of exercise are most effective. He shows which herbs are most compatible for you and which could exacerbate your inborn energetic imbalances. He offers Sasang approaches for a range of common conditions, from high blood pressure, aching joints, and allergies to common colds, inadequate sleep, and weight gain. He also introduces ways to enhance spiritual well-being by balancing your innate emotional strengths and weaknesses. Addressing the body, mind, and spirit, discovering your Yin Yang body type provides the key to optimizing physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

Book 3 BODY TYPES a GUIDE to the ECTOMORPH ENDOMORPH MESOMORPH and AYURVEDA

Download or read book 3 BODY TYPES a GUIDE to the ECTOMORPH ENDOMORPH MESOMORPH and AYURVEDA written by C. K. Miller and published by . This book was released on 2017-06-29 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered why some people struggle to lose weight and others seem to do it effortlessly. Have you ever wondered why some people excel at sports and seem to have a matching physique to go with their athletic prowess? Such is not always the case. Of course there are those who get there through hard work and dedication to the sport. Any coach will tell you they will take a hard worker over someone who is naturally talented any day. That is until someone with natural talent comes along. But, believe it or not there is an answer for all these enigmas. Genetics - more simply put predisposed genetics. There are main body types: The Ectomorph, The Endomorph and the Mesomorph. Each one of us falls into one of these three categories, usually sharing some common traits with one of the other two as well. In this book I attempt to break each of those down and show how they relate to each individual. I also wrote it to combine with A Manual for the Intermittent Faster, with respects to the Endomorph. They have a hard time shedding body weight and would benefit the most from IF. As time permits, I plan on writing more books to add to this bundle. I'm trying to build off each topic and think the next book should be to better explain macronutrients.

Book Body Reshaping through Muscle and Skin Meridian Therapy

Download or read book Body Reshaping through Muscle and Skin Meridian Therapy written by Jeonhee Jang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Body Reshaping through Muscle and Skin Meridian Therapy: An Introduction to 6 Body Types shows you how your weight and body shape can be a direct result of ill health and explains the structures and functions involved. It explores much more than just what your scale and the fit of your clothes might tell you. It looks at skin, fat, muscles, diaphragm, historical illnesses or injuries, body posture, body clock or circadian rhythm, digestion, blood vessels, nutrition, sympathetic nervous system, parasympathetic nervous system, and enteric nervous system. By examining the above factors, you will learn how they contribute toward changes in body shape (notice no mention of dieting or exercise). Muscle meridian therapy refers to the passive application of treatments to muscles not connected to any major organ. The techniques involved improve all the metabolic balances of the body (pressure, temperature, and balance) as well as your overall health. Therapies can benefit all people, including those with traumas such as digestive system disorders, autonomic nerve system disorders, medication complications, post-childbirth complications, major scarring, posture issues, and pain management. The author provides the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) tools and techniques needed for practitioner-guided wellness or at-home wellness understanding and maintenance. The book offers a full guide to "body type" evaluation for muscle meridian therapy and presents a "passive" therapy method (like massage or acupuncture) to complement "active" therapies (like physical therapy and exercise). It covers concepts that are highly individualized yet very "whole body" for physical restoration and balance.

Download or read book The Happy Body written by Aniela & Jerzy Gregorek and published by The Happy Body Press. This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Becoming lean and fit is not a matter of training for a few weeks, like Rocky, to become a world champion. That only happens in Hollywood movies that portray professional athletes exercising for hours every day until they are exhausted. Real athletes never do that. They train only to the point that they can recover for the next day s training. Their progress comes in small increments, not heroic triumphs. Unfortunately, movies have persuaded people that they can become lean and fit virtually overnight. Even the weight loss and fitness industry bought into this distortion and began pushing people to become like Rocky. When that approach failed, because people were injuring themselves or burning out or jumping from one program to another, trainers began to entertain their clients instead of finding solutions to their problems. If you want to become truly lean and fit, you must work at it like an athlete, following a structured routine and that is easier and more pleasant than you may expect. The principles that work for athletes also work for ordinary people of all ages. Athletes, of course, have coaches. The Happy Body program, on the other hand, will teach you everything you need to know to be your own coach. This innovative program establishes, for the first time, exact scientific and testable methods and goals to engineer your own weight loss and fitness within precise time periods. That empowers you to self-correct your progress at every step. The Happy Body is a total health program, not just an exercise or diet plan. It will teach you to safely lose 1.0 to 2.5 pounds every week, and keep them off, without getting stuck at plateaus. You will have full control over the process, right down to the ounce. In addition to teaching you how to lose weight, the program will also help you to restore the flexibility and posture you had as a young child, and to be leaner, stronger, and faster than you have ever been. In essence, The Happy Body program will not only make you as youthful as you were at twenty, but twenty as you would have been if you had followed the program at that age.
