When we are plunged into the dark and difficult times in life, one of three things can happen next: the darkness can destroy us; it can leave us relatively unchanged; or it can help to transform us. In this hope-inspiring guide, clinical psychologist, Michelle Pearce, PhD, provides practical tools and wisdom for transforming and thriving in adversity and loss. Just as some flowers require the dark to bloom, there are some people who do their best growing and becoming during dark and challenging times. With a compassionate voice, Pearce shares her clinical expertise, her own journey through the dark, and inspiring stories of other Night Bloomers to help individuals learn how to heal and transform their lives not in spite of their difficult times, but because of them. “Reading Night Bloomers is like having a dear friend right alongside you for support when most needed. Through stories, strategies, and writing prompts, Pearce provides powerful tools for building resilience, confidence, and joy. She reminds us that like plants, we don’t bloom just once, as she gently, masterfully paves a path for us to enjoy a lifetime of growing and blossoming. A ‘must-read’ for anyone seeking some light in the darkness.” --Caroline Welch, CEO and cofounder of the Mindsight Institute and author of The Gift of Presence “A gem of a book! Through the wisdom gleaned from psychological research and practice and the lessons learned from her own personal encounter with pain and loss, Pearce points the way to growth and transformation when hope is in short supply. Book Like a Lotus Learning to Bloom Through Life s Adversities

Download or read book Like a Lotus Learning to Bloom Through Life s Adversities written by Amy McCarroll and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-29 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lotus is a flower that cannot bloom unless it grows in muddy waters. Much like the lotus, we as people also cannot bloom unless we go through muddy waters. All of the dirt and mud that we encounter help mold and shape us into who we are meant to be. Life certainly has a way of throwing us in the mud when we least expect it and at the most inconvenient times. Without those difficult moments, we would never be able to blossom into a beautiful flower. This remarkable book will help you learn to appreciate all of life's struggles and adversities that you must face. You will be able to understand that each and every single moment, good and bad, both serve a purpose to help get you to where you are supposed to be. Without those moments, you would not be who you are today. It is time to stop comparing your journey to everyone else's and start showing up as the best version of yourself, not a watered down version of someone else. You are you and that is your gift. Too often we compare ourselves to others and feel as if they may have an easier path or as if their struggles aren't as severe as our own. Regardless of what someone else is going through, we must learn to stay focused on our own journey. This book should help you embrace and appreciate every step of your journey.

Book Bending Adversity

  • Pages : 418 pages

Download or read book Bending Adversity written by David Pilling and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2015-02-24 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “[A]n excellent book...” —The Economist Financial Times Asia editor David Pilling presents a fresh vision of Japan, drawing on his own deep experience, as well as observations from a cross section of Japanese citizenry, including novelist Haruki Murakami, former prime minister Junichiro Koizumi, industrialists and bankers, activists and artists, teenagers and octogenarians. Through their voices, Pilling's Bending Adversity captures the dynamism and diversity of contemporary Japan. Pilling’s exploration begins with the 2011 triple disaster of earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear meltdown. His deep reporting reveals both Japan’s vulnerabilities and its resilience and pushes him to understand the country’s past through cycles of crisis and reconstruction. Japan’s survivalist mentality has carried it through tremendous hardship, but is also the source of great destruction: It was the nineteenth-century struggle to ward off colonial intent that resulted in Japan’s own imperial endeavor, culminating in the devastation of World War II. Even the postwar economic miracle—the manufacturing and commerce explosion that brought unprecedented economic growth and earned Japan international clout might have been a less pure victory than it seemed. In Bending Adversity Pilling questions what was lost in the country’s blind, aborted climb to #1. With the same rigor, he revisits 1990—the year the economic bubble burst, and the beginning of Japan’s “lost decades”—to ask if the turning point might be viewed differently. While financial struggle and national debt are a reality, post-growth Japan has also successfully maintained a stable standard of living and social cohesion. And while life has become less certain, opportunities—in particular for the young and for women—have diversified. Still, Japan is in many ways a country in recovery, working to find a way forward after the events of 2011 and decades of slow growth. Bending Adversity closes with a reflection on what the 2012 reelection of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and his radical antideflation policy, might mean for Japan and its future. Informed throughout by the insights shared by Pilling’s many interview subjects, Bending Adversity rigorously engages with the social, spiritual, financial, and political life of Japan to create a more nuanced representation of the oft-misunderstood island nation and its people. The Financial Times “David Pilling quotes a visiting MP from northern England, dazzled by Tokyo’s lights and awed by its bustling prosperity: ‘If this is a recession, I want one.’ Not the least of the merits of Pilling’s hugely enjoyable and perceptive book on Japan is that he places the denunciations of two allegedly “lost decades” in the context of what the country is really like and its actual achievements.” The Telegraph (UK) “Pilling, the Asia editor of the Financial Times, is perfectly placed to be our guide, and his insights are a real rarity when very few Western journalists communicate the essence of the world’s third-largest economy in anything but the most superficial ways. Here, there is a terrific selection of interview subjects mixed with great reportage and fact selection... he does get people to say wonderful things. The novelist Haruki Murakami tells him: “When we were rich, I hated this country”... well-written... valuable.” Publishers Weekly (starred): "A probing and insightful portrait of contemporary Japan."

Book excerpt: Blossom is an account of Scotland at the grassroots through the stories of people I've had the good fortune to know – the most stubborn, talented and resilient people on the planet. They've had to be. Some have transformed their parts of Scotland. Some have tried and failed. But all have something in common – they know what it takes for Scotland to blossom. We should too... Weeding out vital components of Scottish identity from decades of political and social tangle is no mean task, but it's one journalist Lesley Riddoch has undertaken. Dispensing with the tired, yo-yoing jousts over fiscal commissions, Devo Something and EU in-or-out, Blossom pinpoints both the buds of growth and the blight that's holding Scotland back. Drawing from its people and history as well as the experience of the Nordic countries, and the author's own passionate and outspoken perspective, this is a plain-speaking but incisive call to restore equality and control to local communities and let Scotland flourish.

Book Sitting in the Lotus Blossom

Download or read book Sitting in the Lotus Blossom written by Diane Goble and published by Diane Goble. This book was released on 2010-08-31 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1989 I had started to write a book about the art of conscious dying but every time I sat down to write, information that had nothing to do with that concept kept coming through. I decided to meditate to try to figure out what was going on. I started seeing strange faces arising out of the darkness and messages, like a moving LED sign displaying a continuous series of symbols that made no sense to me. Then I would stop meditating and start writing information that didn't seem to be coming from my mind. It seemed as though I was stepping down this other information from these unknown beings and translating it into written words. They wouldn't leave me alone to write my book until finally I agreed to write their book first then they would help me with the book I wanted to write. "Sitting in the Lotus Blossom" is the information they asked me to translate into written language and share with the world. It is about the meaning of life, this life and the life beyond, the evolution of consciousness and who we truly are.I asked them who they were and what they looked like, and using my cartoon drawing talent I drew them as I saw them. I know it's a little weird (and this was during the New Age revolution) but every time I go back and read what I transcribed, I'm amazed at the insight they imparted.
