When her disfigured body is discovered just a few miles from their campsite, the course of Martin's life is changed forever. After returning to the States, Martin takes a leave of absence from his job and, while teetering precariously between mental disintegration and the need for revenge, begins to focus on a new life mission to stop illegal aliens at all cost. Martin's sudden mega lottery win helps him finance a bizarre assassination plan that eventually rocks the tranquility of two governments. An unprecedented but predictable public outcry of human rights violations changes Martin's tactics from committing brutal murders to coordinating organ transplant harvesting using illegal aliens as donors. After the NSA and Interpol plot to assassinate Martin with the help of his lover and a vial of deadly Polonium, a senator's young daughter is diagnosed with a rare disease and an organ transplant is her only hope for survival. Through murder, second chances, love, justice, and betrayal, Martin battles an extraordinary turn of events and must decide if all he has sacrificed is worth it in the end.

Download or read book World in the Balance written by Brooke C. Stoddard and published by Potomac Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2011-02-28 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In mid-1940, the British Expeditionary Force desperately attempted to flee the small French port of Dunkirk and reach British shores. France was falling, and the men were well aware that the German army had already conquered Poland, Denmark, Norway, Holland, and Belgium. Only Britain remained. Churchill then proclaimed to the House of Commons, “Hitler will have to break us in this island or lose the war.” There were, perhaps, no more telling words spoken in World War II. For the following five months, Great Britain waged a heroic, and clandestine, struggle with Nazi Germany—one both psychological and diplomatic—over the fate of the world. World in the Balance recounts these pivotal months. Rallying after Churchill's speeches, destroying the French fleet so it would not fall to the Germans, fending off Nazi agents from former King Edward VIII, weakening England's defenses to build up those of Egypt, establishing a dedication to secret radar, and engaging in deft diplomacy—notably saving Gibraltar by keeping Spain neutral and successfully courting favor in the United States—set all the pieces in place for eventual victory over Axis fascism.

Book Perception of the Visual Environment

Download or read book Perception of the Visual Environment written by Ronald G. Boothe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-12 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aimed at students taking a course on visual perception, this textbook considers what it means for a man, a monkey and a computer to perceive the world. After an introduction and a discussion of methods, the book deals with how the environment produces a physical effect, how the resulting "image" is processed by the brain or by computer algorithms in order to produce a perception of "something out there". It also discusses color, form, motion, distance, and also the sensing of three dimensionality, before dealing with visual perception and its role in awareness and consciousness. The book concludes with discussions of perceptual development, blindness, and visual disorders. Visual perception is by its very nature an interdisciplinary subject that requires a basic understanding of a range of topics from diverse fields, and this is a very readable guide to all students whether they come from a neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, robotics, or philosophy background.

Book The Arctic Cod

Download or read book The Arctic Cod written by D H Cushing and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-01-21 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arctic Cod: A Study of Research into the British Trawl Fisheries discusses trawl fishing in the North Sea. The book reviews the history of trawl fishing from the seventeenth century until the mid-nineteenth century when it developed into an industry. Scientific studies of the Artic cod begins in 1860 when the Norwegians started keeping record of their catches at Lofoten. Britain starts to keep reliable records of catches in 1929; and the first study of the Artic cod was by Michael Graham in 1949, done in three ships, the R.V. Ernest Holt, G.O. Sars, and Johan Hjort. The book describes the research work done on the R.V. Ernest Holt at the cod grounds near Bear Island. The Artic cod lives in the Barents Sea and spawn in the Vestfjord; it travels between 1,000 and 1,600 miles each year between its feeding and spawning grounds. The text also describes how the study is undertaken at sea including monitoring temperature measurements, mesh-size, blood samples; and of carrying on studies of fish on the markets, such as recording the number of boats catching what kind of fish. The text also discusses the future of fisheries research in the international arena. Book Mapping Environmental Issues in the City

Download or read book Mapping Environmental Issues in the City written by Sébastien Caquard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-08-19 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book complements the growing body of literature exploring the relationships between arts and cartography . It is distinct from the previous ones by its main focus: The multiple ways of representing a database. In the context of the exponential increase of the volume of geospatial data available, addressing this issue becomes critical and has not yet received much attention. Furthermore, the content of the database – environmental issues in the city – gives a strong social and political texture to the project. The expected audience for this book are academic as well as students interested in the relationships between art and cartography, place and technology, power and representations. This book could serve as an inspiration for local groups and communities dealing with environmental injustice all over the world. Finally, at a local scale, this book could become a major reference for individuals, communities and institutions interested in environmental issues in the city of Montreal.
