Book Using Cross Layer Techniques for Communication Systems

Download or read book Using Cross Layer Techniques for Communication Systems written by Rashvand, Habib F. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2012-04-30 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the existing layering infrastructure--used globally for designing computers, data networks, and intelligent distributed systems and which connects various local and global communication services--is conceptually correct and pedagogically elegant, it is now well over 30 years old has started create a serious bottleneck. Using Cross-Layer Techniques for Communication Systems: Techniques and Applications explores how cross-layer methods provide ways to escape from the current communications model and overcome the challenges imposed by restrictive boundaries between layers. Written exclusively by well-established researchers, experts, and professional engineers, the book will present basic concepts, address different approaches for solving the cross-layer problem, investigate recent developments in cross-layer problems and solutions, and present the latest applications of the cross-layer in a variety of systems and networks.

Book Advanced Wireless Communications

Download or read book Advanced Wireless Communications written by Savo G. Glisic and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-12-13 with total page 878 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wireless community is on the verge of the standardization of fourth generation (4G) systems. Research has generated a number of solutions for significant improvement of system performance. The development of enabling technologies such as adaptive coding and modulation, iterative (turbo) decoding algorithms and space-time coding, means that industry can now implement these solutions. Advanced Wireless Communications: 4G Technologies focuses on the system elements that provide adaptability and reconfigurability and discusses how these features can improve 4G system performance. There are several different systems comprising 4G, including adaptive WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), ATDMA (Adaptive Time Division Multiple Access), Multicarrier (OFDMA) and Ultra Wide Band (UWB) receiver elements. This book provides a comparative study of these technologies and focuses on their future co-existence. Topics covered include: Space Time Coding, including discussions on diversity gain, the encoding and transmission sequence, the combining s cheme and ML decision rule for two-branch transmit diversity scheme with one and M receivers. Ultra Wide Band Radio, UWB multiple access in Gaussian channels, the UWB channel, UWB system with M-ary modulation, M-ary PPM UWB multiple access, coded UWB schemes, multi-user detection in UWB radio, UWB with space time processing and beam forming for UWB radio. Antenna array signal processing with focus on Space-Time receivers for CDMA communications, MUSIC and ESPRIT DOA estimation, joint array combining and MLSE receivers, joint combiner and channel response estimation and complexity reduction in the wide-band beam forming Channel modeling and measurement, adaptive MAC, adaptive routing and TCP layer are also addressed. This book will supply the reader with a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the systems performance, its complexity/reliability and cost-effectiveness. It gives an insight into the impact of existing and new technologies on the receiver structure and provides an understanding of current approaches and evolving directions for personal and indoor communication.

Book Space Time Processing for CDMA Mobile Communications

Download or read book Space Time Processing for CDMA Mobile Communications written by Pieter van Rooyen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-21 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space-Time Processing for CDMA Mobile Communications is one of the first books to: bring together spatial/temporal channel models and analytic performance evaluation techniques; establish a link between smart antenna systems and advanced receiver design techniques; treat smart antennas specifically for UMTS-like communication systems, with applicable simulations and calculations; supply code with Matlab® GUI so readers can run or modify existing simulations or create new ones. The field of smart antenna technology or, more generally, space-time processing is rapidly becoming one of the most promising areas of mobile communications, especially regarding the development of the first practical third-generation mobile communication systems. The authors have addressed many of the most basic questions relating to the use of space-time processing in CDMA-based third-generation systems and have presented models for the integration of space-time processing, error correction coding, and multi-user detection techniques. Included is extensive background information on cellular systems, antenna array theory, smart antenna techniques, performance of basic space-time processors and advanced space-time processors. The book also includes an extensive simulation program written in Matlab®. The simulation code implements both the uplink and the downlink of a UMTS-like communication system. This provides multiple options for simulating system performance using a variety of channel models as well as receiver structures. Space-Time Processing for CDMA Mobile Communications will be an invaluable reference work for engineers and researchers, and a useful source for design engineers enabling them to understand the implications of adding space-time processing systems to CDMA-based communication systems.

Book Interference Suppression for DS CDMA with Space and Time Diversity

Download or read book Interference Suppression for DS CDMA with Space and Time Diversity written by Wayne G. Phoel and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally, we consider transmitter diversity for the forward link of a DS-CDMA system. Orthogonal designs, which avoid self-interference from the multiple transmitters, are compared with space-time coding, which enables a lower code rate but introduces self-interference. The receiver uses a linear MMSE filter followed by a parallel Decision-Feedback Detector to cancel self-interference. In frequency-selective fading, space-time coding can provide a significant gain over orthogonal designs.
