Book Advances in powder metallurgy

Download or read book Advances in powder metallurgy written by F.H. Froes and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-08-31 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major reason that there is not more widespread use of titanium and its alloys is the high cost. In this paper, developments in one cost effective approach to fabrication of titanium components – powder metallurgy – is discussed with respect to various aspects of this technology. These aspects are the blended elemental approach, prealloyed techniques, additive layer manufacturing, metal injection molding, spray deposition, far from equilibrium processing (rapid solidification mechanical alloying and vapor deposition) and porous materials. Use of titanium powder for sputtering targets, coating, as a grain refiner in aluminium alloys and fireworks are not addressed.

Book INFLUENCE OF BLENDED ELEMENTAL ALUMINUM AND TITANIUM ALUMINUM MASTER ALLOY ADDITIONS ON THE SINTERING BEHAVIOUR OF TITANIUM 6 ALUMINUM ALLOY

Download or read book INFLUENCE OF BLENDED ELEMENTAL ALUMINUM AND TITANIUM ALUMINUM MASTER ALLOY ADDITIONS ON THE SINTERING BEHAVIOUR OF TITANIUM 6 ALUMINUM ALLOY written by Joannie Lapointe and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite their attractive properties Titanium alloys have limited use in automotive applications due to their high cost. Processing low-cost Ti powder sources through a blended elemental or master alloy powder metallurgy route can reduce cost. This work focuses on the study of the effect of blended elemental and master alloyed Aluminum additions on homogeneity and density during sintering of a Ti6Al alloy. Differential scanning calorimetry, dilatometry, and microscopy are used to study the impact of the Al powder source, size and chemical purity. The combined analysis techniques show that the homogenization is faster with fine blended elemental powder reaching the full homogenized stage after 15 minutes. The densification is better with fine TiAl addition, with an axial shrinkage of over 4%, resulting in an overall densification of more than 12%. These results will help to increase the usage of Titanium alloys and the development of new alloys.
