Download or read book Cert Basic Training Instructor s Guide written by Government Publishing Office and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FEMA's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training Instructor Guide is a critical program in the effort to engage everyone in America in making their communities safer, more prepared, and more resilient when incidents occur. Community-based preparedness planning allows you and others interested from your community to prepare for and respond to anticipated disruptions and potential hazards following a disaster. As individuals, we can prepare our homes and families to cope during that critical period. Through pre-event planning, neighborhoods and worksites can also work together to help reduce injuries, loss of lives, and property damage. Neighborhood preparedness will enhance the ability of individuals and neighborhoods to reduce their emergency needs and to manage their existing resources until professional assistance becomes available. The purpose of the CERT Basic Training is to provide you and others in your community who complete this course with the basic skills that they will need to respond to their community's immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster, when emergency services are not immediately available. This course will be beneficial to individuals who desire the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and respond to a disaster. Instructors for these community courses usually range from skilled fire and rescue instructors that have completed the CERT Train-the Trainer course and are knowledgeable about the CERT model, different types of hazards that present greatest risks for communities, local building structures that may present greatest hazard in disaster events, community's emergency operation plans, and licensed Paramedics or Emergency Medical Technicians and nurses for providing hands-on knowledge relating to disaster medical operations Related items: FEMA's companion product-- CERT Basic Training Participant Manualcan be found here: https: //bookstore.gpo.gov/products/sku/027-002-00627-5 Emergency Management & First Responders publications can be found here: https: //bookstore.gpo.gov/catalog/security-defense-law-enforcement/emerg... Audience: As each CERT is organized and trained in accordance with standard operating procedures developed by the sponsoring agency, its members select an Incident Commander/Team Leader (IC/TL) and an alternate and identify a meeting location, or staging area, to be used in the event of a disaster. This publication is ideal for the chosen IC/TL, and members of the CERT may want to consult this manual to understand the responsibilities of the IC/TL.

Download or read book A Guide for Supervisors and Trainers on Implementing the Creative Curriculum for Early Childhood written by Diane Trister Dodge and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide is designed for early childhood educators who are helping their staffs implement the Creative Curriculum for Early Childhood, a curriculum that is based on child development theory and is developmentally appropriate for preschool and kindergarten children. A carefully organized and rich environment serves as the focus of this curriculum. Part 1 of the guide contains three sections discussing respectively: (1) reasons for introducing the new curriculum; (2) support and encouragement of staff development during curriculum implementation; and (3) the use of classroom visits by supervisors as a way to provide technical assistance to staff and to fine-tune the program. Part 2 offers workshop outlines and handouts for conducting staff development sessions. This part contains 12 sections, the first of which suggests workshop strategies for trainers while the second outlines a workshop that provides staff with an understanding and appreciation of the curriculum's child development focus. The following 10 sections each describe workshops devoted to a particular topic: (1) blocks; (2) house corner (dramatic play); (3) table toys; (4) art; (5) sand and water; (6) the library; (7) music and movement; (8) cooking; (9) computers; and (10) the outdoors. Each workshop emphasizes the value of its topic area to child development through exercises, activities, discussions, and handouts. Two appendices provide a copy of the Creative Curriculum Self-Assessment and Observation Form, and staff development forms. (TJQ)

He learns this person is really a Fury—a Greek deity of vengeance. With a magic sword tossed to him by his Latin teacher, Percy successfully kills the creature. He soon learns that he is, in fact, a demigod—half human and half Greek god. He makes his way to a summer camp for other demigods. Book excerpt: A globe-trotting, behind-the-scenes look at the dazzling world of flowers and the fascinating industry it has created. Award-winning author Amy Stewart takes readers on an around-the-world, behind-the-scenes look at the flower industry and how it has sought—for better or worse—to achieve perfection. She tracks down the hybridizers, geneticists, farmers, and florists working to invent, manufacture, and sell flowers that are bigger, brighter, and sturdier than anything nature can provide. There's a scientist intent on developing the first genetically modified blue rose; an eccentric horticultural legend who created the most popular lily; a breeder of gerberas of every color imaginable; and an Ecuadorean farmer growing exquisite roses, the floral equivalent of a Tiffany diamond. And, at every turn she discovers the startling intersection of nature and technology, of sentiment and commerce.
