Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The February 7th 2009 Victorian Bushfires, commonly known as Black Saturday were a natural and man-made catastrophic disaster claiming 173 lives and caused unprecedented injury, suffering and large scale loss and devastation to individuals, families and entire communities, as well as created and natural environments. The Authority established by the Victorian and Federal Governments to respond to this catastrophe was the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority (VBRRA). In December 2009 VBRRA established the Bushfire Bereaved Advisory Group (BBAG) drawing together a group of Black Saturday bereaved individuals for the purposes of advocating for the needs of people bereaved by the bushfires. The establishment of BBAG provided a formal way for bereaved people to give advice to government on issues affecting Black Saturday bereaved people in relation to their ongoing specific experiences including coronial, psycho-social supports and recognition of their specific recovery challenges. BBAG was also formally able to engage in, and have input into Anniversary events, fire awareness programs and other recovery and reconstruction programs. This publication is the Black Saturday Bushfire Bereaved Advisory Group Legacy Document, spanning the Group's work from December 2009 to December 2013. By intent, it includes significant components of subjective knowing, (the 'Experiential Voice') as a way of showing, and telling, aspects of the Black Saturday bushfire bereavement experience. Key areas of focus are * The Experiential Voice * History, formation and functioning of the Advisory Group * Examination of specific and major issues affecting Black Saturday bereaved people * The achievements and influences of BBAG * Learnings and Recommendations * The formal BBAG records The document themes canvas * The 2009 Victorian Bushfires * Black Saturday Bushfire Bereaved Advisory Group * Bushfire bereavement * Deaths in disasters * Disaster management response where there are deaths * Government established Advisory Group - in a disaster context * Learnings and Recommendations when there are deaths in disaster events

Book Catastrophe and Systemic Change Learning from the Grenfell Tower Fire and Other Disasters

Download or read book Catastrophe and Systemic Change Learning from the Grenfell Tower Fire and Other Disasters written by Gill Kernick and published by Do Sustainability. This book was released on 2021-05-27 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Grenfell Tower tragedy was the worst residential fire in London since World War II. It killed seventy-two people in the richest borough of one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Like other catastrophic events before it and since, it has the power to bring about lasting change. But will it? The historical evidence is weighed against ‘lessons being learned’ in a meaningful or enduring way. In an attempt to understand why, despite enormous efforts, we persistently fail to learn from catastrophic events, this book uses the details of the Grenfell fire as a case study to consider why we don’t learn and what it would take to enable real systemic change. The book explores the myths, the key challenges and the conditions that inhibit learning, and it identifies opportunities to positively disrupt the status quo. It offers an accessible model for systemic change, not as a definitive solution but rather as a framework to evoke reflection, enquiry and proper debate. Catastrophe and Systemic Change is a must-read book for a wide range of readers including those interested in change management, leadership, policy-making, law, housing, construction and public safety.

Book excerpt: "Australia has recently experienced a number of large scale and devastating natural disasters, including catastrophic bushfires, far reaching floods, and damaging storms. Such events can have personal, social, economic and environmental impacts that take many years to dissipate"-Introduction.

Book An International Perspective on Disasters and Children s Mental Health

Download or read book An International Perspective on Disasters and Children s Mental Health written by Christina W. Hoven and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-18 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a broad international perspective on the psychological trauma faced by children and adolescents exposed to major disasters, and on the local public health response to their needs. An outstanding quality of the book is that it draws upon the experience of local researchers, clinicians, and public mental health practitioners who dedicated themselves to these children in the wake of overwhelming events. The chapters address exemplary responses to a wide variety of trauma types, including severe weather, war, industrial catastrophes, earthquakes, and terrorism. Because disasters do not recognize geographic, economic, or political boundaries, the chapters have been selected to reflect the diverse global community’s attempt to respond to vulnerable children in the most challenging times. The book, thus, examines a diverse range of healthcare systems, cultural settings, mental health infrastructure, government policies, and the economic factors that have played an important role in responses to traumatic events. The ultimate goal of this book is to stimulate future international collaborations and interventions that will promote children’s mental health in the face of disaster.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive and highly detailed, Twomey on Partnership, 2nd edition, includes practitioner-focused chapters on disputes between partners, litigation by and against partnerships and a commentary on each of the clauses of a typical partnership agreement. Few areas of law are as similar throughout the common law world as partnership law. This important book analyses not only Irish, English and Scottish partnership cases, but also the rich vein of partnership cases to be found in other common law jurisdictions, and explains how these cases impact upon Irish law. This new edition has been updated to take account of key Irish cases over the last 17 years, including McAleenan v AIG, Harris v Quigley and Cronin v Kehoe. In addition, it includes analysis of any foreign (particularly English) cases of particular relevance. A new chapter has been added which deals with the Legal Services Regulation Act 2015 and its provisions on partnerships, including limited liability partnerships. While the key partnership acts (the Partnership Act 1890, the Limited Partnerships Act 1907 and the Investment Limited Partnerships Act 1994) have not changed to any significant degree since publication of the first edition, the Irish Government has approved changes to the Investment Limited Partnerships Act 1994 and this is dealt with in the book. Other analysis of legislation in the book has been been updated to reflect the changes since the first edition, in particular the material relating to Companies Act 2014.

Book Motivated Money

Download or read book Motivated Money written by Peter Thornhill and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a public speaker, this book was written in response to an ever growing chorus of requests for my 'notes'. I have never had notes as the presentations I make are based on 40 years experience in the financial services industry both here and abroad. After so many years, I had begun to question more and more of the assumed wisdom of much of the financial services industry. I left the industry in 2000 to free myself from the shackles of being paid to present a message I no longer believed in and to write this book. I now believe that behavioural finance is more important than economics and as a result, share markets are guided by forces beyond reason. Their short term ups and downs can be linked to collective human behavior, not a logical continuum of cause and effect. In this book, you will learn that history repeats itself; you'll find our why there's no such thing as a market "crash"; why investing for the long term is the surest way to tap the market's riches; why market volatility is not a measure of risk; and why looking backwards "can damage your wealth."
