Book Virtual Currencies and Beyond

Download or read book Virtual Currencies and Beyond written by Mr.Dong He and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2016-01-20 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New technologies are driving transformational changes in the global financial system. Virtual currencies (VCs) and the underlying distributed ledger systems are among these. VCs offer many potential benefits, but also considerable risks. VCs could raise efficiency and in the long run strengthen financial inclusion. At the same time, VCs could be potential vehicles for money laundering, terrorist financing, tax evasion and fraud. While risks to the conduct of monetary policy seem less likely to arise at this stage given the very small scale of VCs, risks to financial stability may eventually emerge as the new technologies become more widely used. National authorities have begun to address these challenges and will need to calibrate regulation in a manner that appropriately addresses the risks without stifling innovation. As experience is gained, international standards and best practices could be considered to provide guidance on the most appropriate regulatory responses in different fields, thereby promoting harmonization and cooperation across jurisdictions.

Book The Future of Money

Download or read book The Future of Money written by Eswar S. Prasad and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2021-09-28 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cutting-edge look at how accelerating financial change, from the end of cash to the rise of cryptocurrencies, will transform economies for better and worse. We think weÕve seen financial innovation. We bank from laptops and buy coffee with the wave of a phone. But these are minor miracles compared with the dizzying experiments now underway around the globe, as businesses and governments alike embrace the possibilities of new financial technologies. As Eswar Prasad explains, the world of finance is at the threshold of major disruption that will affect corporations, bankers, states, and indeed all of us. The transformation of money will fundamentally rewrite how ordinary people live. Above all, Prasad foresees the end of physical cash. The driving force wonÕt be phones or credit cards but rather central banks, spurred by the emergence of cryptocurrencies to develop their own, more stable digital currencies. Meanwhile, cryptocurrencies themselves will evolve unpredictably as global corporations like Facebook and Amazon join the game. The changes will be accompanied by snowballing innovations that are reshaping finance and have already begun to revolutionize how we invest, trade, insure, and manage risk. Prasad shows how these and other changes will redefine the very concept of money, unbundling its traditional functions as a unit of account, medium of exchange, and store of value. The promise lies in greater efficiency and flexibility, increased sensitivity to the needs of diverse consumers, and improved market access for the unbanked. The risk is instability, lack of accountability, and erosion of privacy. A lucid, visionary work, The Future of Money shows how to maximize the best and guard against the worst of what is to come.

Book excerpt: Bitcoin first appeared in 2009, and it's already challenging everything we've come to accept about money, financial institutions, and even government. The digital currency can be nearly anonymous. And it can be traded internationally—without the fees, government regulation, and bank oversight of paper money. But Bitcoin is still risky. Its value fluctuates wildly. More than $400 billion of it disappeared overnight with the fall of a single trading exchange. How is that possible? And why is it so popular? CNNMoney reporter Jose Pagliery explains it all. He details the digital currency's mysterious origins. He explores the dark side of Bitcoin: a world of drugs and assassins for hire. And he examines the economic impact of this revolutionary concept through interviews with pensive economists, wary bank regulators, and free market proponents such as Ron Paul. Bitcoin: And the Future of Money explains how it works and why it matters. The book is essential reading for anyone looking to understand a financial innovation that will forever change how we think about money.

Book Virtual Currency and the Bitcoin Revolution

Download or read book Virtual Currency and the Bitcoin Revolution written by Valerie Duskin and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an insightful and critical examination of Zimbabwe's education system. The authors take a broad perspective and explore the most important aspects of the education system. The book starts by looking at the history of Zimbabwe's education system focusing on its development from an exclusionary past where a few privileged individuals could access education, and proceeds to explore the country's universal education, which followed the attainment of political independence from Great Britain in 1980. The authors then go on to examine the socio-economic and political factors that have contributed to the collapse of a once-vibrant education system that has been credited with producing, arguably, some of Africa's finest professionals. As an antidote to this, the authors discuss service delivery models that have emerged as "best and effective" practices in education and how these could transform the country's education system so that it can meet the educational, societal, professional, and economic demands of the 21st Century - a timely focus for a country trying to reinvent itself as it emerges from a decade-long severe socio-economic and political crises. The authors did an excellent job of discussing how to maximize positive educational outcomes for every Zimbabwean child via early childhood education, special education, inclusive education, counselor education and educational research. To their credit, the authors focus on fundamental educational issues pertaining to teacher preparation, emphasizing structural, functional and sociological needs in response to the demands of a 21st Century economy. The book is an excellent resource for scholars, researchers, teacher preparation programs, professional development programs for in-service teachers, development studies programs, history scholars, and policy-makers, among others.

Book Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Blueprint for Beginners

Download or read book Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Blueprint for Beginners written by Satoshi Minako Nakano and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-02-09 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cryptocurrency and Block Chain Blueprint for Beginners You can easily describe the digital coin phenomenon as the gold rush of the 21st century. These digital coins are a type of digital currency or electronic currency, also known as cryptocurrency. Many people are attracted to the idea of investing in digital currency for various reasons. For one, it's new and exciting. Digital currency raises questions about our basic understanding of currency and the way we will use it in the future. Others are interested in making an investment into something that they expect to increase in value. Those investors purchase digital currency with the same idealism as those who purchase real estate or make other investments. The idea is to buy low and sell high. Their hope is that years from now they will be able to sell their digital currency (or items purchased with them) and make a healthy profit or have considerable more buying power than they had when they first purchased them. Although it is still violable, part of what many expected to happen with digital currency investments have already proven true with the skyrocketing value and the creation of new coins. However, a word of caution is still in order about these investments. Because there is no governmental oversight or central financial institution backing digital currencies, there is nothing to stipulate that anyone or any business has to accept them as real money. Those who participate in digital currency transactions do so electronically using a decentralized exchange. "Blockchain," also known as "block chain," is the decentralized record of digital currency ownership. Digital currency transactions are electronic transactions, which can occur anywhere and at any time, and anonymously. In spite of the uncertainty of the use of digital currency, it looks as if digital currencies are here to stay. This book is all you need to dip your toes into the cryptocurrency world and start making smart investments. This book is geared toward beginners and it will teach you about: The Block Chain Technology Cryptocurrencies Advantages and Disadvantages of Cryptocurrencies Cryptocurrency Mining Digital Currency Facts/Myths Alternatives to Bitcoin (Litecoin, Ripple, Monero, Dash, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Zcash, and Bitcoin Cash) Grab your copy today and learn how not to miss on this great opportunity that was gifted to us!
