  • Author : Clara Vasconcelos
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2016-11-14
  • ISBN : 3319433199
  • Pages : 235 pages

Download or read book Geoscience Education written by Clara Vasconcelos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-14 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents research in Geoscience Education focusing on indoor and outdoor environments in which teaching geoscience gains particular relevance, significance and contextualization. The research areas that are presented throughout the thirteen chapters cover a wide variety of subjects ranging from educational resources and fieldwork to science models. Chapters discuss specific geoscience topics such as earthquakes, rocks, fossils and minerals. Other chapters present a more interdisciplinary approach addressing topics that aren’t usually examined, such as geomedicine and geoethics, with a specific focus on sustainable development and their alignment with the school curricula. Throughout the book readers can find research-based arguments illustrated with practical examples, which will help them to innovate in their curriculum development area, classroom practices and pre and in-service teachers’ education. The book challenges readers to improve Geoscience Education by changing the ways of teaching, by enabling students to exploit their natural curiosity, and by spurring a learning process that should not be confined to the classroom but rather maintained throughout life.

Book Handbook of Research on Interdisciplinarity Between Science and Mathematics in Education

Download or read book Handbook of Research on Interdisciplinarity Between Science and Mathematics in Education written by Cavadas, Bento and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-01-24 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Working in an interdisciplinary manner is long pursued but a difficult goal of science and mathematics education. The interdisciplinarity of science and mathematics can occur when connections between those disciplines are identified and developed. These connections could be expressed in the educational policies, curriculum, or in the science and mathematics teachers’ educational practices. Sometimes those connections are scarce, but in other moments, full integration is achieved. The Handbook of Research on Interdisciplinarity Between Science and Mathematics in Education presents results of good practices and interdisciplinary educational approaches in science and mathematics. It presents a broad range of approaches for all educational levels, from kindergarten to university. Covering topics such as computer programming, mathematics in environmental issues, and simple machines, this major reference work is an excellent resource for administrators and educators of both K-12 and higher education, government officials, pre-service teachers, teacher educators, librarians, researchers, and academicians.

Book Minority Language Planning and Micronationalism in Italy

Download or read book Minority Language Planning and Micronationalism in Italy written by Paolo Coluzzi and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2007 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Issues of language planning and minority nationalism or «micronationalism» are becoming increasingly important in a globalized world. Yet minority language planning in Italy and its relation to minority nationalism has so far attracted relatively limited academic attention, despite the particularly interesting changes that have taken place since Law 482 on the protection of minority languages was passed in 1999. This book presents the situation in Italy in three case studies and compares them with similar cases in Spain: Friulian (compared with Galician), Cimbrian (compared with Aranese) and Western Lombard (compared with Asturian). Analysis of these case studies is preceded by a clear and thorough introduction to terminology, legislation in the two countries, nationalism, the discipline of language planning and bilingual education, both in general terms and with specific reference to the Italian and Spanish cases. This first part introduces and defines the crucial distinction between minority and regional languages, between macro and micronationalism, both in their conservative and progressive strands, and between majority and minority language planning, among other things.

Book Red Dwarfs

    Book Details:
  • Author : David S. Stevenson
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2019-09-11
  • ISBN : 3030255506
  • Pages : 370 pages

Download or read book Red Dwarfs written by David S. Stevenson and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-11 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thought-provoking book looks at the nature of red dwarf systems as potential homes for life. Realistically, what are the prospects for life on these distant worlds? Could life evolve and survive there? How do these planetary surfaces and geologies evolve? How would life on a planet orbiting a red dwarf differ from life on Earth? And what are the implications for finding further habitable worlds in our galaxy? The author provides readers with insight into the habitability of planets and how this changes as time progresses and the central star evolves. Since the previous 2013 edition Under a Crimson Sun, there has been a rise in newly discovered planets orbiting red dwarfs, accompanied by controversial areas of research that test what we think we know about these systems. This revised edition delves into the wealth of new material uncovered since that date. It explains the often conflicting results and analyses put forward and clarifies our understanding of these exciting new worlds. The chapters explore the full width of relevant scientific discovery and speculation on the potential for red dwarf planets to host life. New content includes improved atmospheric models, new understandings of the impact of stellar radiation on the atmosphere of red dwarf worlds, tidal-locking, and comparisons with terrestrial geology and climate.
