Book Sequential Data in Biological Experiments

Download or read book Sequential Data in Biological Experiments written by Ellis A. Roberts and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many excellent books on general statistical methods in agricul tural and biological research. These books cover a broad range of methods without going into detail on specialized topics. A number of topics including regression analysis, design of experiments, biological assay and categorical analysis have received in-depth treatment in specialized texts. Little appears in standard textbooks on experiments in which observations form sequences. The live weights of animals during a long-term experiment provide a familiar example of data forming a sequence, but many others occur: for example, moisture content of segments of soil cores, successive counts of insects in an orchard and hormone levels in blood over a period. Correla tions are likely to be found among the observations in all these examples. The book by Goldstein (1979) provided the first systematic coverage of the principles involved in longitudinal studies, but is mainly concerned with observational studies on humans. The main aims of this book are to provide research workers with methods of analysing data from comparative experiments with sequential obser vations and to demonstrate special features of the design of such experi ments. These aims are achieved by working through sets of data.

Book Techniques in Life Science

    Book Details:
  • Author : Rahul Pandey
  • Publisher : BFC Publications
  • Release : 2021-03-01
  • ISBN : 9390675103
  • Pages : 190 pages

Download or read book Techniques in Life Science written by Rahul Pandey and published by BFC Publications. This book was released on 2021-03-01 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written to provide an introduction to key experimental techniques from across the biosciences. The upcoming global challenges for organisms demand a lot of researches to increase our knowledge to cope up with any adverse environmental situation. The basic research in life sciences needs to understand the biological techniques properly. Considering these requirements, the book uniquely integrates the theories and practices that drive the field of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, biotechnology etc. It comprehensively covers both the methods student will encounter in lab classes and those that underpin recent advances and discoveries. The older technical details like Gel-electrophoresis, Chromatography, Centrifugation, Spectroscopy etc will be helpful to grow the initial basic concepts for all type of biological researches while the modern techniques like CRISPRS, Biosensors, DNA sequencing etc will be helpful to develop skills about these upcoming technologies. Our goal is to develop the skills at degree level students in basic biological research that they will be able to plan successfully their own experiments and examine the results obtained.

Book The Uses of Experiment

Download or read book The Uses of Experiment written by David Gooding and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1989-05-18 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiment is widely regarded as the most distinctive feature of natural science and essential to the way scientists find out about the world. Yet there has been little study of the way scientists actually make and use experiments. The Uses of Experiment fills this gap in our knowledge about how science is practised. Presenting 14 original case studies of important and often famous experiments, the book asks the questions: What tools do experimenters use? How do scientists argue from experiments? What happens when an experiment is challenged? How do scientists check that their experiments are working? Are there differences between experiments in the physical sciences and technology? Leading scholars in the fields of history, sociology and philosophy of science consider topics such as the interaction of experiment; instruments and theory; accuracy and reliability as hallmarks of experiment in science and technology; realising new phenomena; the believability of experiments and the sort of knowledge they produce; and the wider contexts on which experimentalists draw to develop and win support for their work. Drawing on examples as diverse as Galilean mechanics, Victorian experiments on electricity, experiments on cloud formation, and testing of nuclear missiles, a new view of experiment emerges. This view emphasises that experiments always involve choice, tactics and strategy in persuading audiences that Nature resembles the picture experimenters create.

Book Concepts Theories and Rationality in the Biological Sciences

Download or read book Concepts Theories and Rationality in the Biological Sciences written by Gereon Wolters and published by University of Pittsburgh Press. This book was released on 1995-07-15 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Unified Report on the “State of the Art” in the Philosophy of Biology In October 1993, the University of Pittsburgh hosted the Second Pittsburgh-Konstanz Colloquium in the Philosophy of Science, with a focus on the rapidly growing field of philosophy of biology. An interdisciplinary group of philosophers and scientists came together to discuss the basic theories and concepts of biology and their connections with ethics, economics, and psychology. The colloquium organizers strove to create an event that would provide attendees with a wide overview on the current state of the philosophy of biology, with as many topics and views on these topics as possible. Those presentations are gathered here in a volume that offers the reader a varied and thorough survey of the field.

Book Experimental Design for the Life Sciences

Book Biological Coherence and Response to External Stimuli

Download or read book Biological Coherence and Response to External Stimuli written by Herbert Fröhlich and published by Springer. This book was released on 1988-07-19 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an extensive treatment of the introduction of modern physical concepts into biology. In particular, the concept of coherence finds wide applications and yields novel results in context with multiple problems as they arise in biology: these include long range resonant cellular effects and resonant interactions of biological tissues with low intensity electro-magnetic radiation. Extensive experimental support of the theoretical concept is presented.
