Book Bioinspired Computation in Combinatorial Optimization

Download or read book Bioinspired Computation in Combinatorial Optimization written by Frank Neumann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-04 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioinspired computation methods such as evolutionary algorithms and ant colony optimization are being applied successfully to complex engineering problems and to problems from combinatorial optimization, and with this comes the requirement to more fully understand the computational complexity of these search heuristics. This is the first textbook covering the most important results achieved in this area. The authors study the computational complexity of bioinspired computation and show how runtime behavior can be analyzed in a rigorous way using some of the best-known combinatorial optimization problems -- minimum spanning trees, shortest paths, maximum matching, covering and scheduling problems. A feature of the book is the separate treatment of single- and multiobjective problems, the latter a domain where the development of the underlying theory seems to be lagging practical successes. This book will be very valuable for teaching courses on bioinspired computation and combinatorial optimization. Researchers will also benefit as the presentation of the theory covers the most important developments in the field over the last 10 years. Finally, with a focus on well-studied combinatorial optimization problems rather than toy problems, the book will also be very valuable for practitioners in this field.

Book Bio inspired Algorithms for the Vehicle Routing Problem

Download or read book Bio inspired Algorithms for the Vehicle Routing Problem written by Francisco Baptista Pereira and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-29 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vehicle routing problem (VRP) is one of the most famous combinatorial optimization problems. In simple terms, the goal is to determine a set of routes with overall minimum cost that can satisfy several geographical scattered demands. Biological inspired computation is a field devoted to the development of computational tools modeled after principles that exist in natural systems. The adoption of such design principles enables the production of problem solving techniques with enhanced robustness and flexibility, able to tackle complex optimization situations. The goal of the volume is to present a collection of state-of-the-art contributions describing recent developments concerning the application of bio-inspired algorithms to the VRP. Over the 9 chapters, different algorithmic approaches are considered and a diverse set of problem variants are addressed. Some contributions focus on standard benchmarks widely adopted by the research community, while others address real-world situations.

Book A New Bio inspired Optimization Algorithm Based on the Self defense Mechanism of Plants in Nature

Download or read book A New Bio inspired Optimization Algorithm Based on the Self defense Mechanism of Plants in Nature written by Camilo Caraveo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-30 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a new meta-heuristic algorithm, inspired by the self-defense mechanisms of plants in nature. Numerous published works have demonstrated the various self-defense mechanisms (survival strategies) plants use to protect themselves against predatory organisms, such as herbivorous insects. The proposed algorithm is based on the predator–prey mathematical model originally proposed by Lotka and Volterra, consisting of two nonlinear first-order differential equations, which allow the growth of two interacting populations (prey and predator) to be modeled. The proposed meta-heuristic is able to produce excellent results in several sets of benchmark optimization problems. Further, fuzzy logic is used for dynamic parameter adaptation in the algorithm.

Book Bio inspired Algorithms for Data Streaming and Visualization Big Data Management and Fog Computing

Download or read book Bio inspired Algorithms for Data Streaming and Visualization Big Data Management and Fog Computing written by Simon James Fong and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-25 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to provide some insights into recently developed bio-inspired algorithms within recent emerging trends of fog computing, sentiment analysis, and data streaming as well as to provide a more comprehensive approach to the big data management from pre-processing to analytics to visualization phases. The subject area of this book is within the realm of computer science, notably algorithms (meta-heuristic and, more particularly, bio-inspired algorithms). Although application domains of these new algorithms may be mentioned, the scope of this book is not on the application of algorithms to specific or general domains but to provide an update on recent research trends for bio-inspired algorithms within a specific application domain or emerging area. These areas include data streaming, fog computing, and phases of big data management. One of the reasons for writing this book is that the bio-inspired approach does not receive much attention but shows considerable promise and diversity in terms of approach of many issues in big data and streaming. Some novel approaches of this book are the use of these algorithms to all phases of data management (not just a particular phase such as data mining or business intelligence as many books focus on); effective demonstration of the effectiveness of a selected algorithm within a chapter against comparative algorithms using the experimental method. Another novel approach is a brief overview and evaluation of traditional algorithms, both sequential and parallel, for use in data mining, in order to provide an overview of existing algorithms in use. This overview complements a further chapter on bio-inspired algorithms for data mining to enable readers to make a more suitable choice of algorithm for data mining within a particular context. In all chapters, references for further reading are provided, and in selected chapters, the author also include ideas for future research.
