M., Who Died at Leipzig, June 13, 1843-Aged Twenty-Six Years In the winter of 1838 - 9 a vacancy occurred in the Greek Tutorship of Harvard University, which Mr. Wheeler was called upon temporarily to fill, and a full confirmation in the office soon succeeded to the first pro visional appointment. In this way he became a member of the government of the University in which he had been educated, and towards the instructions of which he had from his early childhood eagerly turned. The rela tion with his Alma Mater which was thus established was continued till the end of the last academical year, at which period he resigned his office in contemplation of a tour and residence abroad. During the last two years of his residence at Cambridge he had also fulfilled the duties of Instructor in History, and had devoted no inconsider able attention to studies in this department of education. But a significant non-Celtic influence on Scotland's history has been largely ignored for centuries? This book argues that much of Scotland's history and culture from 1100 forward is Jewish. The authors provide evidence that many of the national heroes, villains, rulers, nobles, traders, merchants, bishops, guild members, burgesses, and ministers of Scotland were of Jewish descent, their ancestors originating in France and Spain. Much of the traditional historical account of Scotland, it is proposed, rests on fundamental interpretive errors, perpetuated in order to affirm Scotland's identity as a Celtic, Christian society. A more accurate and profound understanding of Scottish history has thus been buried. The authors' wide-ranging research includes examination of census records, archaeological artifacts, castle carvings, cemetery inscriptions, religious seals, coinage, burgess and guild member rolls, noble genealogies, family crests, portraiture, and geographic place names.
