Book excerpt: Microarray Analysis is a natural outgrowth of the author’s teaching and research into the fi eld of microarray processing, a fast growing and developing fi eld. There has been a reduction in the genominomics of sequencing of DNA and proteins: from $3 billion in HGP costs down to $1000 per genome in 2014 using next-generation sequencers. Different sequencing methods in place and various applications of these methods are illustrated. Commercially available Next-Generation Sequencers are compared side-side by side. This book will show how the biochemical reactions involved in the different steps of the cure process can be studied using microarray methods. Examples will be provided throughout the text of various disease states, including the spread of cystic fi brosis in children, consanguineous marriages in Saudi Arabia, genetic disorders, and autoimmune disorders. The protocols from sample preparation to confocal scanning microscopy and detectors using photo multiplier tubes to statistical data analysis methods will be discussed in detail. The Polymerase chain reaction, a technique used to amplify and simultaneously quantify a targeted DNA molecule is explored in relation to the best surface to be used for Microarray Analysis. Sanger sequencing, sequencing by synthesis, sequencing by ligation, single molecule sensing, DNA passage through nanopores in graphene are some methods used for obtaining sequence distribution information.

Download or read book DNA Microarrays written by Mark Schena and published by Practical Approach Series. This book was released on 1999 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DNA Microarrays: A Practical Approach is the first comprehensive overview of an exciting and powerful new technology. DNA microarrays, or biochips, are small glass chips embedded with ordered rows of DNA, providing a massive parallel platform for data gathering and representing a fundamental technical advance in biomedical research. Such biochips gather data at an unprecedented rate by enabling the use of advanced fabrication, detection, and data mining technologies. Written and edited by experts in the field, this book provides fascinating insight into this remarkable advancement. It opens with an introduction to the technology of DNA microarrays, emphasizing the methodological fundamentals of biochips, and continues with descriptions of the use of confocal scanning in microarray detection and techniques for the efficient cloning and screening of differentially expressed genes. The chapters address many topics, among them assay optimization, antisense scanning arrays, the manufacture of molecular arrays, and gene expression analysis. Also addressed are the uses of expression data in bioinformatics, of active microelectronic arrays for DNA hybridization analysis, and of microarray technology in pharmacogenomics. DNA Microarrays: A Practical Approach is ideal for researchers investigating patterns of gene expression (and the relationship with disease), and it is essential for any researcher interested in the use of biochips.

Download or read book Chip Technology written by Jörg Hoheisel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DNA-chip analysis has come a long way since the first conference in Moscow in 1991. Nowadays, DNA-microarrays seem to be a common commodity in biological sciences. The complexity hidden behind the apparent ease of such studies, however, is highlighted by the fact that it took about ten years before the methodology really set off. Also, on closer scrutiny, one realises that some problems still remain. Nevertheless, microarrays produce data on a scale beyond imagination a few years ago. The authors of the book took part in bringing this about. They are well-known experts in the field, many - like Edwin Southern, Hans Lehrach, Radoje Drmanac, Pavel Pevzner and Charles Cantor - have been actively pursuing array technology for more than a decade. They demonstrate the continuous development in both technology and application areas and elucidate on critical points that need to be considered when performing microarray analyses.
