Book Bioceramics

Download or read book Bioceramics written by W. Bonfield and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-17 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioceramics is a collection of papers that deals in bioactive ceramics, glasses, and composites, focusing on the optimization of the implant-tissue interface. One paper discusses the osteogenic response of rat bone marrow cells in porous alumina, in hydroxyapatite, and in Kiel bone. Marrow cells loaded alumina and HA ceramics show new bone formation; Kiel bone use does not point to any consistent osteogenesis. Another paper presents the potential of an injectable form of Bioglass to treat urinary incontinence. When injected, it remains at the injection site by bonding to soft tissues without degrading, migrating, or producing an inflammatory reaction. Another paper presents an in vitro method that has shown osteoclast-like cells can resorb artificial calcium phosphate substrata in vitro. The differences in bone bonding mechanisms between surface active ceramics and resorbable ceramics show some chemical bonding and direct contact with the bone. The book also presents some clinical uses of bioactive ceramics such as the successful artificial root therapeutics involving 219 artificial roots implanted in 63 patients. This book can prove valuable to bio-chemists, cellular biologists, micro-biologists, developmental biologists, and scientists involved in biomaterials research.

Book Bioceramics Volume 10

Download or read book Bioceramics Volume 10 written by L. Sedel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-10-08 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioceramics 10 contains the proceedings of the 10th International Symposium on Ceramics in Medicine, held in Paris, France, in October 1997. These annual symposia bring together distinguished researchers in the fields of ceramics and medicine to exchange ideas and to discuss recent research results. Bioceramics in medicine has become one of the more important fields of biomaterials. The clinical applications of bioceramics are numerous. In particular in areas such as orthopaedic surgery, dentistry and plastic surgery, but also E.N.T., percutaneous devices and embolisation materials. In addition to the many clinical applications, Bioceramics 10 deals with a range of fundamental subjects in depth. This book will be an essential reference tool for both clinicians, academics and industrial researchers interested in the use of ceramics in medicine. The book will also be of great value to students and lecturers in materials science, biomedical engineering and orthopaedics. This volume contains 140 papers, more than 200 high quality photographs, and both author and keyword indexes.

Book Introduction To Bioceramics An 2nd Edition

Download or read book Introduction To Bioceramics An 2nd Edition written by Larry L Hench and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2013-05-06 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second edition of the classic book An Introduction to Bioceramics which provides a comprehensive overview of all types of ceramic and glass materials that are used in medicine and dentistry. The enormous growth of the field of bioceramics is due to the recognition by the medical and dental community of the importance of bioactive materials to stimulate repair and regeneration of tissues. This edition includes 21 new chapters that document the science and especially the clinical applications of the new generation of bioceramics in the field of tissue regeneration and repair. Important socioeconomic factors influencing the economics and availability of new medical treatments are covered with updates on regulatory procedures for new biomaterials, methods for technology transfer and ethical issues. The book contains 42 chapters that offer the only comprehensive treatment of the science, technology and clinical applications of all types of bioceramic materials used in medicine and dentistry. Each chapter is written by leaders in their specialized fields and is a thorough review of the subject matter, unlike many conference proceedings. All chapters have been edited to reflect the same writing style, making the book an easy read. The completeness of treatment of all types of bioceramics and their clinical applications makes the book unique in the field and invaluable to all readers.
