Book Bioassessment Methodologies for the Regulatory Testing of Freshwater Dredged Material Phase 2

Download or read book Bioassessment Methodologies for the Regulatory Testing of Freshwater Dredged Material Phase 2 written by Greg Busacker and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report represents the second phase of a 3-year (three-phase) project that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) requested from the St. Paul District as planning assistance under Section 22 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1974 (Public Law 93-251). The State of Wisconsin is interested in identifying appropriate bioassessment testing methodologies for the regulatory testing of freshwater sediments scheduled for dredging and open-water disposal. The report includes discussions and recommendations for specific approaches to bioassessment methods in the tiered testing protocol. The methods described in this report have the potential to be the most frequently used testing techniques, and represent the backbone of the tiered testing evaluation for regulatory testing of freshwater sediments. Keywords: Acute lethality test; Bioassessment techniques; Chronic life cycle test; Dredged material; Dredging environmental aspects; Water quality bioassay; Methodology; Water quality management. (JHD).

Book Sediment Toxicity Assessment

Download or read book Sediment Toxicity Assessment written by G.Allen Burton and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sediment Toxicity Assessment provides the latest information regarding how to evaluate sediment contamination and its effects on aquatic ecosystems. It presents an integrated ecosystem approach by detailing effective assessment methods, considerations, and effects to each major component of marine and freshwater systems, including the benthos, plankton, and fish communities. The approaches emphasize defining habitat conditions (physical and chemical), toxicant bioavailability, factors influencing toxicity (lab and field), biomarkers, acute and chronic toxicity, study design, collection methods, and EPA management strategies. The book also explains how to integrate the assessments. Sediment Toxicity Assessment will be useful to to all environmental managers, environmental scientists, ecotoxicologists, environmental regulators, aquatic ecologists, environmental contractors and consultants, instructors, students, conservation commissions, and environmental activist organizations.

Book Biological Assessment and Criteria

Download or read book Biological Assessment and Criteria written by Wayne S. Davis and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-03-03 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biological Assessment and Criteria presents a state-of-the-art overview of the applications of biological assessments and biocriteria for water quality management in fresh waters. The book presents case studies which illustrate how bioassessment has been used to identify and diagnose water quality problems. It also provides examples of the use of qualitative and quantitative biocriteria as regulatory tools to complement water quality criteria and standards. The first book to present the technical foundation, rationale, program and policy relevance, and legal basis for the most accurate tools used to assess freshwater natural resource and regulatory efforts, this book provides useful and timely information for water quality managers.

Book Fundamentals Of Aquatic Toxicology

Download or read book Fundamentals Of Aquatic Toxicology written by Gary M. Rand and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-08-06 with total page 1152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is divided into three parts. The first part describes basic toxicological concepts and methodologies used in aquatic toxicity testing, including the philosophies underlying testing strategies now required to meet and support regulatory standards. The second part of the book discusses various factors that affect transport, transformation, ultimate distribution, and accumulation of chemicals in the aquatic environment, along with the use of modelling to predict fate.; The final section of the book reviews types of effects or endpoints evaluated in field studies and the use of structure-activity relationships in aquatic toxicology to predict biological activity and physio-chemical properties of a chemical. This section also contains an extensive background of environmental legislation in the USA and within the European Community, and an introduction to hazard/risk assessment with case studies.
