Book excerpt: The Binge-Watching Cure is an anthology of short stories of increasing size. Then 500, then longer, all the way to novella length. By the time you've finished reading The Binge-Watching Cure, you'll be able to tackle Joyce and Pynchon. Or at a minimum, you¿ll enjoy novels you hear about from friends and family. The Binge-Watching Cure will reignite your love for reading; it will better your life. And you know what? These are great stories, spanning a diversity of genres including romance, science fiction, crime, spiritual, horror, literary and more. We spent a year looking for exciting, beautifully written, enthralling stories. We know you're going to enjoy them.A husband and wife face a cancer diagnosis with mixed reactions; a catastrophic train wreck gives a circus troupe (and their tiger) baffling powers; a death-obsessed couple are willed the cremated remains of a complete stranger and must discover why. In this eclectic collection, you'll witness: a First Sergeant come face to face with the horrors of war, a couple's role-playing night-on-the-town, a post-apocalyptic thriller, a philosophy on cat ownership, and a young woman with seven days to live out a lifetime of love. Just as you enter a cold swimming pool one body part at a time, get used to drinking beer sip by foamy sip, or learn to enjoy spicy food in little, fiery nibbles, The Binge-Watching Cure gradually acclimates you to reading longer and longer stories, until a novel-length book goes down smoothly, tasting sweet, and making you want more.

Book Binge Drinking in the Adolescent and Young Brain Volume II

Download or read book Binge Drinking in the Adolescent and Young Brain Volume II written by Eduardo Lopez-Caneda and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-01-23 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Research Topic is the second volume of Research Topic "Binge Drinking in the Adolescent and Young Brain". Please see the first volume here. Binge drinking (BD), also known as heavy episodic drinking or college drinking, is a highly prevalent pattern in most Western countries characterized by the intake of large amounts of alcohol in a short time followed by periods of abstinence. This excessive pattern of alcohol use is a regular practice in around a third of European and American youth. The high prevalence of BD at this age is of particular concern since adolescents are in a period of special vulnerability to neurotoxic effects of alcohol, mainly due to the structural and functional changes going on in the brain throughout this key developmental stage. As showed in the first volume of the Research Topic, evidence gathered during the last decade from animal and human studies seems to point out multiple brain anomalies associated with BD at different levels: biochemical, structural, functional, but also cognitive and affective. In this Second Volume, our aim is to bring together the most recent studies –namely original research and systematic or critical reviews- which provide a comprehensive approach regarding the effects of BD on the adolescent and young brain. Thus, we aim to include manuscripts from different domains (preclinical and clinical research), perspectives (genetic, behavioral, neuropsychological, clinical psychology, psychophysiology, neuroimaging, etc.), and methods (behavioural, biochemical, EEG, MEG, MRI, etc.). Likewise, we welcome submissions aimed at examining the effects of BD beyond the brain (personality dimensions, polygenic risk, peripheral inflammation, cortisol response, gut microbiome, etc.) and approaches focused on reducing BD, such as cognitive training and/or neuromodulation (by tDCS, TMS, etc.).
