Download or read book My Squirrel Days written by Ellie Kemper and published by Scribner. This book was released on 2019-07-02 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comedian and star of The Office and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and host of The Great American Baking Show Ellie Kemper delivers a hilarious, refreshing, and inspiring collection of essays “teeming with energy and full of laugh-out-loud moments” (Associated Press). “A pleasure. Ellie Kemper is the kind of stable, intelligent, funny, healthy woman that usually only exists in yogurt commercials. But she’s real and she’s all ours!” —Tina Fey “Ellie is a hilarious and talented writer, although we’ll never know how much of this book the squirrel wrote.”—Mindy Kaling Meet Ellie, the best-intentioned redhead next door. You’ll laugh right alongside her as she shares tales of her childhood in St. Louis, whether directing and also starring in her family holiday pageant, washing her dad’s car with a Brillo pad, failing to become friends with a plump squirrel in her backyard, eating her feelings while watching PG-13 movies, or becoming a “sports monster” who ends up warming the bench of her Division 1 field hockey team in college. You’ll learn how she found her comedic calling in the world of improv, became a wife, mother and New Yorker, and landed the role of a bridesmaid (while simultaneously being a bridesmaid) in Bridesmaids. You’ll get to know and love the comic, upbeat, perpetually polite actress playing Erin Hannon on The Office, and the exuberant, pink-pants-wearing star of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. If you’ve ever been curious about what happens behind the scenes of your favorite shows, what it really takes to be a soul cycle “warrior,” how to recover if you accidentally fall on Doris Kearns Goodwin or tell Tina Fey on meeting her for the first time that she has “great hair—really strong and thick,” this is your chance to find out. But it’s also a laugh-out-loud primer on how to keep a positive outlook in a world gone mad and how not to give up on your dreams. Ellie “dives fully into each role—as actor, comedian, writer, and also wife and new mom—with an electric dedication, by which one learns to reframe the picture, and if not exactly become a glass-half-full sort of person, at least become able to appreciate them” (Vogue.com).

Download or read book The Revenge of Joe Wild written by Andrew Komarnyckyj and published by Santa Monica Press. This book was released on 2022-07-12 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Revenge of Joe Wild is a young adult novel about a semi-literate 12-year-old boy growing up in mid-19th century Southern Illinois, an outsider who can’t fit in with the norms of society. When Joe is accused of murdering his friend Ervan Foster, he flees the authorities and goes on the run, vowing to one day return as an adult, find out who the real killer is, clear his name, and avenge Ervan’s death. While on the run, Joe has many funny, dangerous, and eye-opening adventures which include joining the Union army and fighting in the American Civil War. When the war ends, Joe returns to his hometown, an armed and battle-tested sixteen-year-old. He confronts his accusers, but when Joe finds out the truth behind Ervan's murder, he makes peace with the man who falsely accused him, as well as with himself. In the great tradition of such 19th-century American authors Mark Twain, James Fennimore Cooper, and Stephen Crane, The Revenge of Joe Wild is a humorous, tense, action-filled novel set against the dramatic backdrop of the Civil War, with themes involving racism, sexuality, and misinformation that are just as relevant in the 21st century as they were during the time of Joe Wild.

Download or read book The Boys of Chattanooga written by Clyde Hedges and published by Clyde Hedges. This book was released on 2006-02 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Awaiting the Army of the Cumberland were thirty-five thousand Confederate troops well supported by artillery, and entrenched atop a strongly fortified ridge. There was absolutely no chance the men of the Cumberland could take the ridge. Almost every Union general thought that to assault it would be suicide; yet when the men captured the base rifle, they rested only briefly then went on to scale the ridge itself. What followed was probably the most outstanding assault of the Civil War. The men of the Army of the Cumberland completely routed the Rebel forces, compelling them to retreat to Georgia. At the time, the battle was hailed throughout the country as a miracle, for the men not only took an unassailable position, they did so without orders from Grant or any other Union officer. Why the men left the base rifle pit to attack the ridge has been debated for years. The Boys of Chattanooga is the story of the siege and battle for Chattanooga and that heroic charge up Missionary Ridge.
