Book Social Media and Politics in Turkey

Download or read book Social Media and Politics in Turkey written by Erkan Saka and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-11-20 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on media and zeroes in some critical and oppositional aspects of internet usage within Turkey. It does not radically challenge some works on Turkey’s recent grand narrative but presents empirical and minor accounts to this. However, in elaborating the long history of relatively resilient and multilayered oppositional digital media networks in Turkey, this book insists that an idea of authoritarian turn may be misleading as the internet communications are exposed to repressive measures and surveillance tactics from the very beginning of the country’s recent past. While discussing from citizen journalism practices to political trolls and from Gezi Park protests to disinformation campaigns, this book pays tribute to digital activists and points out that mobilizing through digital networks can present glimmers of hope in challenging authoritarian regimes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the elassie work on inequalities by HARDY, LITTLEWOOD, and P6LYA in 1934, an enonnous amount of effort has been devoted to the sharpening and extension of the elassieal inequalities, to the discovery of new types of inequalities, and to the application of inqualities in many parts of analysis. As examples, let us eite the fields of ordinary and partial differential equations, whieh are dominated by inequalities and variational prineiples involving functions and their derivatives; the many applications of linear inequalities to game theory and mathe matieal economics, which have triggered a renewed interest in con vexity and moment-space theory; and the growing uses of digital com puters, which have given impetus to a systematie study of error esti mates involving much sophisticated matrix theory and operator theory. The results presented in the following pages reflect to some extent these ramifications of inequalities into contiguous regions of analysis, but to a greater extent our concem is with inequalities in their native habitat. Since it is elearly impossible to give a connected account of the burst of analytic activity of the last twenty-five years centering about inequalities, we have d. eeided to limit our attention to those topies that have particularly delighted and intrigued us, and to the study of whieh we have contributed.

Book Generalized Analytic Functions

Download or read book Generalized Analytic Functions written by I. N. Vekua and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-07-17 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generalized Analytic Functions is concerned with foundations of the general theory of generalized analytic functions and some applications to problems of differential geometry and theory of shells. Some classes of functions and operators are discussed, along with the reduction of a positive differential quadratic form to the canonical form. Boundary value problems and infinitesimal bendings of surfaces are also considered. Comprised of six chapters, this volume begins with a detailed treatment of various problems of the general theory of generalized analytic functions as as well as boundary value problems. The reader is introduced to some classes of functions and functional spaces, with emphasis on functions of two independent variables. Subsequent chapters focus on the problem of reducing a positive differential quadratic form to the canonical form; basic properties of solutions of elliptic systems of partial differential equations of the first order, in a two-dimensional domain; and some boundary value problems for an elliptic system of equations of the first order and for an elliptic equation of the second order, in a two-dimensional domain. The final part of the book deals with problems of the theory of surfaces and the membrane theory of shells. This book is intended for students of advanced courses of the mechanico-mathematical faculties, postgraduates, and research workers.

Book Funerary Monuments in the Interior of the Roman Province of Dalmatia

Download or read book Funerary Monuments in the Interior of the Roman Province of Dalmatia written by Edisa Lozić and published by Založba ZRC. This book was released on 2021 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Lifestyle Migration

Download or read book Lifestyle Migration written by Michaela Benson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relatively affluent individuals from various corners of the globe are increasingly choosing to migrate, spurred on by the promise of a better and more fulfilling way of life within their destination. Despite its increasing scale, migration academics have yet to consolidate and establish lifestyle migration as a subfield of theoretical enquiry, until now. This volume offers a dynamic and holistic analysis of contemporary lifestyle migrations, exploring the expectations and aspirations which inform and drive migration alongside the realities of life within the destination. It also recognizes the structural conditions (and constraints) which frame lifestyle migration, laying the groundwork for further intellectual enquiry. Through rich empirical case studies this volume addresses this important and increasingly common form of migration in a manner that will interest scholars of mobility, migration, lifestyle and culture across the social sciences.

Book Global Fossil Fuel Subsidies Remain Large An Update Based on Country Level Estimates

Download or read book Global Fossil Fuel Subsidies Remain Large An Update Based on Country Level Estimates written by Mr.David Coady and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2019-05-02 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper updates estimates of fossil fuel subsidies, defined as fuel consumption times the gap between existing and efficient prices (i.e., prices warranted by supply costs, environmental costs, and revenue considerations), for 191 countries. Globally, subsidies remained large at $4.7 trillion (6.3 percent of global GDP) in 2015 and are projected at $5.2 trillion (6.5 percent of GDP) in 2017. The largest subsidizers in 2015 were China ($1.4 trillion), United States ($649 billion), Russia ($551 billion), European Union ($289 billion), and India ($209 billion). About three quarters of global subsidies are due to domestic factors—energy pricing reform thus remains largely in countries’ own national interest—while coal and petroleum together account for 85 percent of global subsidies. Efficient fossil fuel pricing in 2015 would have lowered global carbon emissions by 28 percent and fossil fuel air pollution deaths by 46 percent, and increased government revenue by 3.8 percent of GDP.

Book Complex Algebraic Surfaces

Download or read book Complex Algebraic Surfaces written by Arnaud Beauville and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-06-28 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developed over more than a century, and still an active area of research today, the classification of algebraic surfaces is an intricate and fascinating branch of mathematics. In this book Professor BeauviIle gives a lucid and concise account of the subject, following the strategy of F. Enriques, but expressed simply in the language of modern topology and sheaf theory, so as to be accessible to any budding geometer. This volume is self contained and the exercises succeed both in giving the flavour of the extraordinary wealth of examples in the classical subject, and in equipping the reader with most of the techniques needed for research.

Book excerpt: A beautifully illustrated collection of mindfulness exercises for grounding, relaxation, and finding inner peace, from contemporary mystic Osho All of us have experienced moments of "coming home"--feeling relaxed, grounded, free of the restlessness that characterizes so much of our everyday lives. These moments can arise in nature or in the depths of an activity we enjoy, alone or together with people we love. They show us that we are exactly where we are supposed to be. The meditations in Coming Home to Yourself were selected from Osho's hundreds of public talks and intimate conversations. These passages are designed to be a companion on the journey toward transforming our rare moments of "at-home-ness" into an undercurrent that permeates all aspects of our lives. They offer guidance about meditation and specific techniques to try, insights into the habits that keep us tense and conflicted, and what life might look like if we recognize those habits and let them go. Exercises include activating your awareness, opening the heart, learning to relax and concentrate in order to reap the benefits of meditation, and freeing the brain from mental blocks. Featuring whimsical full color illustrations throughout, Coming Home to Yourself invites the reader to dip into the meditations at any point or read the book in sequence for a true homecoming experience.

Book How Large Are Global Energy Subsidies

Download or read book How Large Are Global Energy Subsidies written by Mr.David Coady and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-05-15 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides a comprehensive, updated picture of energy subsidies at the global and regional levels. It focuses on the broad notion of post-tax energy subsidies, which arise when consumer prices are below supply costs plus a tax to reflect environmental damage and an additional tax applied to all consumption goods to raise government revenues. Post-tax energy subsidies are dramatically higher than previously estimated, and are projected to remain high. These subsidies primarily reflect under-pricing from a domestic (rather than global) perspective, so even unilateral price reform is in countries’ own interests. The potential fiscal, environmental and welfare impacts of energy subsidy reform are substantial.
